1. Bibi and Livni
DT ,   TA Israel   (06.22.10)
She is right but she would be worse still and give away the state . Soon it will be hard to distinguish between the weakness of Livni and Netanyahu
2. Livni lacks credibility.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (06.22.10)
Except when she talks about weakness. She knows a lot about that subject. Who does she think she's kidding here? Opportunism is a most unattractive quality especially when it's so apparent. I have no problem criticising Netanyahu & I find his recent actions to be unpalatable. I suspect that much of this mess is due to Ehud Barak, well known as a serial bungler & strategic disaster, & I could say worse about him with ease. Netanyahu is too concerned about the stability of his coalition to be a courageous leader, he should fire Ehud Barak. But, the thought of Livni in a decision-making position requiring tough decisions in our national interest? C'mon, that's a bad joke.
3. OPEN COMMENT TO LIVNI
D.G.   (06.22.10)
HER COMMENT ." We can't allow everyone (THE HERADIM) to have their own laws, judges and courts. This is completely unacceptable, and the leadership (JUST like LIVNI) must say so." Dear Livni, You have tried to get reelected by bashing and slamming the entire Haredi community, but it has still not helped your party win reelection of the leadership in the State of Israel. Every time you comment negatively towards the Haredim it bounces back at you, your Haredi bashing has accomplished absolutely nothing positive for you or your party. Perhaps its time to allow Haredim to HAVE their own Torah laws and Judges? to send a message to Hashem (G-D) that we are ALL ready to except his involvement in the land of Israel and cry out to him (G-D) asking to help us survive the most difficult times we are facing now. You have not proven to world at large that your horrible method of bashing the Haredi citizens of the state of Israel is effective in any way shape or form, so why not make a right turn and take a new & clean attitude? perhaps it will help your party score some big points, it might even lead to Achdut, so we can live with peace and harmony.
4. Bibi is High Court's puppet and CANNOT do what he wants
(06.22.10)
The advantage of Bibi is that he's at least not as Left as Livni. An extreme Leftist PM lead by extreme Leftist court would be as dangerous as when Olmert was PM. As long as the leftist court will not be replaced, the country will go down, down, down.
5. CAN WE AFFORD YOU HAVE THE LIKES OF LIVNI
Martin ,   Jhb SA   (06.22.10)
CAN WE AFFORD LIKES OF LIVNI Spiritual weakness at the level reflected by Livni is a big concern. The weakness of the judgement of the desperate secular judges is a cause for grave concern. Yes some alleviation of the some stringencies in the blockade may even be a measure of strength. Im not sure why this political opportunist Livni has not resigned? To let the democracy run without the likes of her would contribute if not streangthen the cumbersome political system.. What a great achievement to get arab and now gay votes as part of her power base. The system is as strong as the weakest point. So the finger points back Ms Livni. When you have learnt the respect and develop the ability to respect the sanctity of married life then perhaps you can make a contribution that which is strong and that which is weak. For the moment your best bet is to introspect and consider the value of your lack of contribution to the wellbeing of the Jewish people. We cant afford to have Abbas cracking the whip every day in Washington if we want to build a toilet or a laundry. No 2 you are on target Barak’s intense determination to keep in with the left as a means of political survival is sickening and sad and is undermining our spirit and is ruining our beautiful country. If anything this is another weakness to address. Bibi you come from Likud and they strengthen you don’t abandon old and loyal friends. It would be heartening to see some team building on the right of centre. We are definitely not short of problems. The American and Euro anti Iran pro Israel groups need to be vigilant and continue to assert a balance. I wish the people on the left would understand what this is about and cease undermining the government assertiveness. We need to be focussed to be a force to be reckoned with. This positive supportiveness is needed at a time when Iran and now Erdogan of Turkey threatens our destruction almost daily. They want to play media tricks to open up Gaza.
6. Why must our replies be apologies ?
joe   (06.22.10)
Our weakness was blatant when Peres livid face reeled under Erdogan's insults. Same when a squirming Bibi was face to face with Obama. Again with the blockade lifting, and got in return " renewed " demands to give in to hamas with an open house. Can someone please tell me why we don't shut tight our border with hamas and let them run their own lives --- Mazen will never control it. He will die first ; heart or murder. As a free entity, if they do not stop with their rockets, then we can go in and finish an unfinished job.
7. Short memory
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (06.22.10)
Does Livni think Israelis have short memory? She wants Haredim to follow the Law, so why did she sit with Olmert for four years? Will she pretend that she never knew he was corrupt? She is right that Israel cannot show weakness, but does she think we forget that she helped Israel lose two wars, and is responsible for UN 1701 that prevents Israel from doing anything while Hezbolla has rearmed to four times its previous strength?
8. Livni negotiated the cease fire with Hezbollah
Rod ,   Fargo N.Dakota   (06.22.10)
She believed foreign troops would protect Israel from the terrorists. Now under unsurpassed negotiating prowess Hezbollah is 3x as powerful as it was during and before the war.Tzipi put her trust in foreign troops and Hezbollah has built up a huge rocket and even missile arsenal under the foreign troops eyes
9. #6: I fully understand where you are coming from
Israeli 2   (06.23.10)
However poth Peres and Bibi were NOT acting out of weakness...they had a better understanding and plans to take care of it. Period
10. Livni, you would have been more of a leader
AK   (06.23.10)
if you would direct your attacks at those who forced Netanyahu to capitulate: the US and the EU, instead of making Netanyahu's position even weaker by idiotic criticisms at home. You know darn well that you would have capitulated even faster than Netanyahu -- we remember you conduct as FM during the Lebanon war. Your gratuitous criticism is only to bring Netanyahu govt down, so you can grab the power into your incompetent hands again; never mind that Americans want Bibi replaced knowing full well from experience that you or Barak will work for them just fine, putting up far less opposition to their dictates than Bibi. Livni, we have already seen what you're capable of as a leader and it wasn't much. Just support Bibi at home and abroad so he doesn't have to contend with powerful enemies abroad and worry about back-stabbers at home. The World must see Israel speaking with one strong voice.
11. Concerned with the Gov appearing weak Ms Livni?
BH ,   Iowa   (06.23.10)
Join the coalition!
12. AK (# 10). A most excellent post. Thank You.
flyingdoc57 ,   Florida, U.S.A.   (06.23.10)
If I thought it would ever reach her, I'd copy/paste your posting to an e-mail and send it to Livni herself. Truer and more accurate words have never been written. Thank you, and keep up the good work.
13. Zero marks for Livni. Shame, shame on her!
Harry Wright ,   UK   (06.23.10)
If she was in the hot seat, she would buckle under by a mere glare. We cannot and will not forget the pathetic spectacle she made of herself in the past, particularly during Lebanon II - apologising at every turn and practically begging for a ceasefire when she should have have been a motivational force encouraging the completion of the job. In her cowardice, she found her soul mate in Olmert. When she is not grovelling, she is berating Netanyahu while trying unsuccessfully to convince people she could do better. She is a disaster. Why did she not convince that wimp Olmert to finish off Cast Lead too, if she is so great and effective. How much did she conspire with Olmert to give away to Abbas? Home is a great place for her to be, permanently.
14. #10 "World must see Israel speaking w/ 1 strong voice"
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (06.23.10)
AK is right. Israel and her allies must show the world that we stand united to defend the country. Now is not the time for politicians to score points by criticizing the government.
15. Livni is wrong
Brod ,   USA   (06.23.10)
Why go after your own people over nothing? Israel faces far more serious problem with Ayatollahs' nuke threat. Those who think they can bury their heads like ostriches over Iran nuke threat of annihilating Israel are living in fantasyland. Israel should focus on this existential threat like a hawk and not be distracted by irrelevant matters.
16. to 3
(06.23.10)
peace and harmony ... with gaurd or with god you need both ....i think livni is not the enemy sure bibi is not .but all of the three look first to hidselfe second to the other lastly to the enemy hahaha
17. Is She Still Around? Hadn't Noticed.
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (06.23.10)
18. #10 good post
ben Ish   (06.23.10)
19. Livni
Nili   (06.23.10)
You and the courts spew more hatred to the Jewish people than our enemies. You hate anything to do with religion unless you are grovelling for votes--then you throw a rag on your head and start kissing hands. You, Barak and the Court should all be ousted before you tear this country apart--but that is your goal is it not?
20. Ms. Tzipi Livni in "opposition"
Ricardo Kolbe ,   Cologne/ EU - German   (06.23.10)
Sir, a "nice" article indeed, however, Ms. Livni is not the opposition leader, she is only not part of the government, what she would like to be, also to be able to travel to London what she can't do today, as a prime architect of the Gaza war which left her with a stigma of being a war criminal, together with Mr. Barak, Mr. Olmert etc.
21. This time I fully agree with Livni. Netanyahu
Vardina   (06.23.10)
proves to be a softy. This is not what I have expected of a prime minister.
22. To Vardina: Livni did the deal for EU at gaza borders
jason ,   haifa israel   (06.23.10)
Livni wanted uk patrolling gaza waters. Livni told the right in israel we need others to help. Livni has the EU sitting out in lebanon waters doing nothing. Livni has restricted the ability of idf to act off lebanon's coast. Livni and olmert gave unifil the power and the french almost shot down an idf plane over lebanon. The worst is obama is getting his wish and taking bibi down and a livni/obama combo will be a disaster. Livni is a huge liar as well as the eu cancelled an upgrade under her and she groveled at the time and then said nothing but when she left office she wrote a letter to EU begging them not to go back on the upgrade because of bibi. Bibi knew leaving philadelphia route would open up gaza to iran and the tunnels for weapons. Livni was the architect of this. Please don't take bibi down. He didn't leave gaza or lebanon and yet the israelis think he is soft. I give up with israeli public. The leftists in the world will rejoice if bibi is taken down in israel.
23. Livni, go home and make Shpitzer a nice supper
Ari ,   Netanya   (06.23.10)
If you as good a cook as you claim to be, do your country a service and make Naftali a nice hot meal, why does he have to suffer because you have ambitions for which you are unsuited and unqualified. You are a lo yutzlach and a bungler like the shabak bunglers who failed to kill mashaal
