Robert, I like your final sentence "Because self-deception is a universal need, truth tellers will always be turned on". I'm not sure if it's a need or it's just the way people are. Either way you're right. Even such great Jewish thinkers as the Rambam (Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon or Maimonides), the Ramchal (Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto) and Rabbi Kook were attacked by many of their Jewish contemporaries. Bottom line, very few people are willing to look in the mirror and admit that all of their life's assumptions and world views are flawed and therefore in need of change. Thus when someone speaks the truth it's much easier to attack the person then to look in the mirror and reach certain conclusions. If you want to see a rare and powerful example of someone looking in the mirror please read Eim HaBanim Semeichah by Rabbi Yisachar Shlomo Teichtal.

Part of the reason I'm writing is to create a badly needed dialogue so I'm always happy to correspond with those who comment on my articles. I respect your view but personally I didn't think it was needed here. By the way, if you'd like to see an article of mine on Ynet where God (or G-d or Hashem) is mentioned please see "Time to free ourselves". There, as opposed to here, I thought that mentioning His name was needed. All the best.
