1. Singing rabbis no but PA yes
Yosef ,   Israel   (07.01.10)
singing rabbis no but prenuptial agreements for mutual assured detruction yes. These rabbis are lunatics
2. So a wedding effectively becomes a Shiva - nice....NOT!
Talula ,   Israel   (07.01.10)
Only a miserable old sod would complain about something like that. Weddings are meant to be a happy joyous occasion. These nutters are trying to single-handedly turn Judaism into some freak religion with rigid rules that no-one else can relate to. They are beyond pathetic. And Ynet, STOP WITH THAT ANNOYING BANNER EVERYTIME I OPEN YNET!
3. It's about time
Michal   (07.01.10)
A month ago, I was at a wedding that was more like a circus because of this.
4. Joyful Weddings?
Albi ,   Ashkelon   (07.01.10)
Are you serious? Why not take your supreme responsibilities seriously and deal with real problems like Emmanuel Ashkenazi-Sephardi racism. Not being a Torah scholar, could somrone advise me as to where in the Torah we are commanded to keep little Ashkenazi girls separate from little Sephardi girls. Thank you.
5. shame on the Council of the Chief Rabbinate-
elianna ,   Jerusalem   (07.01.10)
shows how out of touch they are with joy and the Jewish people. it should be up to the wedding couple and not these bullies to determine if there is singing. since when is singing forbidden. stupidity rains and they are moving themselves farther and farther away from being relevant. Instead of trying to include more people in halachic marriage ceremony- they are polarizing the Jewish people again.
6. Re: Banner. You are so right #2
Jack Rivkin ,   New Zealand   (07.01.10)
I leave it on minimized mode for the entire time I spend on Ynet. When I log off, I simply put my hand over the screen until it disappears :) The Hebrew version is even worse with the coke ad. Noisy and invasive all over the screen and can be closed.
7. Tzohar
EM ,   Ra'anana   (07.01.10)
The esteemed rabbinate should be more concerned with rabbis who take thousands of shekels (under the table of course) to perform the ceremon. A wonderful group of orthodox rabbis (Tzohar) have been returning secular Jews to the traditional ceremony BECAUSE of the happiness they incorporate into the ceremony...and they take only a minimal fee if at all. My daughter married a few months ago with one of these rabbis. There was nothing frivolous or degrading about the rabbi. Instead he turned the event into a magical experience for all...and he sang under the Huppa. He inspired all of us to sing with him. Our two familes united under the Huppa, involved with every word and blessin. It was the most spiritual, moving wedding of two people. I suspect the rabbinate is more afraid of losing their lucrative income to this group of rabbis who are gaining in popularity, than any desire to maintain the "decorum" of the wedding.
8. Do we need a TV show Rabinical Idol singing competition
Josh   (07.01.10)
9. Annoying banner.
Karen Singer ,   rehovot Israel   (07.01.10)
Talula, I agree with you 100% about the banner, and have sent an email to ynet telling them so. By the way, I also agree with most of your talk backs, your an island of sanity in this sea of madness :)
10. Rabbits
Steve ,   Raanana   (07.01.10)
it is fantastic how the chief rabbit comes up with schemes to drive all the little bunnies away. While the big guy thinks he's going to make all the little bunnies follow him, most are running someplace else saying “the chief rabbit has lost his mind."
11. And they wonder why Seculars want Civil marriage
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & New York   (07.01.10)
Weddings are a time of joy and should be celebrated that way. It is not against scripture or diminish the Rabbinate to have songs from the Bible sung at a wedding.
12. OK, now CDs of "Here comes the bride, big fat & wide."
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (07.01.10)
13. #1-2 you depraved, offensive goyim!
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (07.01.10)
The disgusting misojudaic loathing of the most honorable and distinguished rabbis--from Rav Eliyahu z"l to Rav Yoseiph to Rav Arusi--is goyim and satanic! Even most Christians wouldn't conceive of being part of such depravity. Your inability to comprehend what you read proclaims your "arrognance." The rabbis stipulated officiating, under the khupah--a service that is either qodesh-Jewish or goyim. The article says nothing about hiring a singing rabbi, a stand-up comedian rabbi, Teimani dancers, Billy Crystal or Don Rickles to perform during the subsequent simkhah banquet. If you want Madonna-the-kabbalist to officiate your wedding cavorting in her underwear under the khupah then come out of the closet, proclaim to the world that you're misojudaic goyim and/or Christian, and move to the U.S. or Europe where they do things your goyim way instead of trying to transform the Holy Land into Sedom. I remind readers that Talula earlier exposed her vast ignorance of things Judaic: "I'd rather be regarded as impure and tainted than sit in a mikvah - just the thought of it is revolting. Probably an idea made up by horny rabbis - a woman washing another naked woman is the stuff the wet dreams are made of LOL! (ynet, Mikveh calendar for tech savvy, 2010.03.22)" For those who may not be aware, Teimani Rav Dr. Ratzon Arusi, Chief Rabbi of Qiryat Ono, is the successor to Rav Gapheikh (Qapakh/Qafih), z"l. #3 Kol ha-kavod to you for supporting these rabbis. I've been to a couple of weddings like that too--and I don't attend if I know it's a secular wedding. Sometimes children of datim are shocking. Sad. Barukh ha-Sheim, countless other weddings I've attended are dati and very enjoyable, uplifting, fun and rewarding with lots of music, dancing and good (kasheir, a shame we have to stipulate that here to forestall the goyim vultures talkbacks) food. Paqid Yirmeyahu Paqid 16, The Netzarim, Ra'anana, Israel Israeli Torah-reverer (Teimani, Baladi, Dor Daim, Orthodox Jew) Advocate for Logic as Hermeneutic Halakhic Authority Welcoming All Torah-reverers (Jews & non-Jew geirim)
14. Dignified ceremony is the ideal
Israeli grandma   (07.01.10)
The serious business is the Hupa & Kiddushin, and its is TRADITIONAL to celebrate by singing and dancing AFTERWARDS, and anyone who goes to Jewish weddings knows this. The Chief Rabbinate is not trying to introduce Hamas craziness into our lives, but maintain the dignity of our traditional wedding ceremonies, so all you anti-religion talkbackers can calm down.
15. Rabbis
Ralph ,   CAESAREA   (07.01.10)
These rabbis are no more Jewish.
16. what a shame
Line Singer ,   Aarhus, Denmark   (07.01.10)
Every time I read about these nutty rabbis I am more and more happy I never converted to Judaism. We got married in a church in Denmark with lots of singing. Like it should be! A wedding is a joyous occasion.
17. Article needs more info...
Rebecca   (07.01.10)
There is really not enough background in this article to understand the issue. On face value this seems like a very sad, unfortunate, and even ridiculous, ruling. The singing that i'm familar with under the chuppah is among the holiest moments I know. So I can't imagine that this is what the ruling is referring to, but the kinds of "complaints" that have been reported are not elaborated. A more detailed article would be more helpful.
18. Halacha
Daniel A. Lang ,   Rimonim   (07.01.10)
Where is it written in Halacha that a Rabbi cannot incoporate song or music into the wedding ceremony? It must have been an extremely slow day for the Chief Rabbinate. Oy vey!
19. A license to those who can & a ban to those who can't.
Liad ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.01.10)
Since when has music become anti-religious?! King David is probably turning over in his grave at this decision. TB # 3 is right on the mark. Are there any musically trained profession musicians in the Rabbinate? If there is a Rabbi who is trained and performs music really good, then give him a license. To the rest of the Rabbis who can't sing or carry a tune properly and they complain, then the word Jealously comes into the picture ... which is a sin. This sin becomes even greater when the Rabbis use their "power" to pass Rabbinical laws to protect their own incompetence in music.
20. No end to the stupidity and nonsense
Sagi   (07.01.10)
generated by religion, faith and the twisted minds thereof. How sad it is that someone should actually believe that it is forbidden to be happy and sing at a wedding.
21. Interestingly, the same prohibition is
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (07.01.10)
advocated by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
22. circus hahahah
Golan ,   Modiin   (07.01.10)
I have family that make every event a circus. You cannot legislate away bad taste.
23. Stuck in the ghetto
Potash Katiftof ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (07.01.10)
While many of the rabanate dress like they are still living in a polish ghetto, now they have decided to act that way too, even at weddings. As long as 2 witness the groom giving the bride the ring, then they are married. The rest is all song&dance anyway.
24. Bunnie 12 , a good laugh . Thanks
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.01.10)
Does this song exist ?
25. #13 WOW!!! I'm truly touched
Talula ,   Israel   (07.01.10)
There aren’t many on Ynet who hang onto my every word, bookmark it and refer back to it, a year after it was published. Strange that you remembered/kept/copied the Mikva issue. I can only assume that you have been thinking about the truth in what I wrote – what other reason would there be for remembering such a thing (which I still stand by). Probably because it involved naked women washing each other. God, you’re a pathetic Idiot. But seriously, what’s most important here, is that I was born a Jew – a proper genuine Jew – unlike you. Nighty night!
26. No doubt that this ruling is from Rabbis who can't sing.
Yehuda ,   Jerusalem   (07.01.10)
27. To Talula
Chareidi Woman ,   Israel   (07.01.10)
I was about to write and joke that at last I agreed with something you said (about the annoying banner)!! That was until I read your latest talkback and remembered what you're all about. Your ignorance about anything Jewish just astounds me. I assure you that no women wash each other at the mikveh, naked or otherwise. Get your facts right before your next chareidi-bashing talkback. Shame on you.
28. G-d
Lewis ,   Jerusalem   (07.01.10)
This Rabbi says this, that Rabbis says that, this Rabbi says this, that Rabbi says that. What does G-d say? That's irrelvant.
29. Spinoza!said religion will leads you to INSANITY,OY VA VOY
