1. Calling either of these men a
Sagi   (06.26.10)
"statesman" is an insult to peoples intelligence. They are both two bit hick politicians, who on the political front, have achieved nothing of note and certainly no achievment for their respective peoples or the world at large, which is what defines a "statesman".
2. This whole thing is a joke.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (06.26.10)
This gov't. made an enormous mistake by accepting the idea of a two-state solution. We are still stuck with an idea that failed more than15 years ago. The Palestinians do not want peace, period. Any agreement with Fatah is meaningless & that's IF any agreement is possible (which is not likely). Why do we continue with this charade? Negotiations will lead nowhere yet we are practically begging for them. Let's just face reality - our differences with the Palestinians are irreconcilable & we have zero interest in the creation of a Palestinian state. By accepting the ''Palestinian narrative'' we have undermined our own legitimacy.
3. Saeb Erekat is a representative of Fatah.
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (06.26.10)
The New Charter of Fatah states that one of the principles is to destroy the Zionist State of Israel in terms of its political system, economy, military and culture. There is nothing, on the other hand, indicating an acceptance of the State of Israel in any form whatsoever. So what is the use of talking and negociating. For Israel, there is nothing to be gained. In order to negociate, there must be a mutual acceptance.
4. #3 Only Mutual Acceptance accepted from now onward, Robert
Nour ,   Palestine   (06.26.10)
20 years of recognition of has yielded what exactly for the PLO and PA? You love to talk about the Palestinian factions' doctrines and charters. Truth is, they reserve the right to hold any ideology. Look at Yisrael Beiteinu which you are a member of, they call for ethnic genocide . Shas calls for our murder
5. More of the same...there will never be peace
Scott   (06.26.10)
The Palestinians dont want it. Israel is unfairly lampooned and cajoled by hypocrits and do-gooders. While these same morons choose to continually ignore the real face of Hamas and the complete lack of any committment by them to *peace*.
6. Until the charter of Alfatah changes and there is Pales..
ari ,   romania   (06.26.10)
palestinian unity, wher you can talk to a real repesentative, all talks are useless. You cannot spill everything over the table and then comes Alfatah and Hamas and state they don´t recognized Israel. As to start the talks where they left in 2009 it´s naive and stupid. Everytime Israel and Plestinian come together Israel gives in a little, Palestinians reject this. Afterwards they come and say let´s start where we left. Happened in Taba, then with Olmert. Now they want to start where they left. Start Israel gave in to a lot of palestinian pretences. Palestinians have not moved one centimeter from initial talks. Recognitions of Israel as a Jewish State, and settling the refugee problem has to be the initial start to any talk. With out this two principles no talks can advance. There was a freeze on settlements and still they use this as an excuse...Israel should declare unilateraly a Palestinian state within 1967 borders adjusting some swaping on lan and finish with these guys. Israel should also disengage completaly from Gaza and let all the aid come from Egipt.
7. :: Robert - #3
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (06.26.10)
I'm sure the Palestinians siad the same thing in light of the following quote: "We must define our position and lay down basic principles for a settlement. Our demands should be moderate and balanced, and appear to be reasonable. But in fact they must involve such conditions as to ensure that the enemy rejects them. Then we should manoeuvre and allow him to define his own position, and reject a settlement on the basis of a compromise position. We should then publish his demands as embodying unreasonable extremism". - General Yehoshafat Harkabi, Former Israeli Chief of Military Intelligence. With such a mindset you can see how hard it is for the Palestinians to make peace with a 'peace partner' who does not want to make peace. The Israelis have rejected a Two State solution because of the illegal settlements in the WB and their refusal to allow the formation a totally independent Palestinian state - the only way forward is a One State solution.
8. :: Robert - Yisrael Beiteinu?
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (06.26.10)
I what Nour says true? Are you a member of Yisrael Beiteinu?
9. Erekat should resign
Salma ,   Palestine   (06.26.10)
How can someone stay in his job,without make a difference ?! Erekat burns himself for nothing, Only laugh at the chins
10. The concept of “right of return" is to demolish Israel
Ron B. ,   Lod   (06.26.10)
The whole intent of the so-called “right of return” is to destroy the Jewish state. The Palestinians claim the right for those who fled what became Israel during the 1947-48 war and for all their descendants. The idea is to overwhelm the Jewish population and demolish Israel. The concept of “right of return” serves only as a weapon against Israel. But who is the real responsible for the actual situation ? Truth and facts at : http://xrl.us/bkj57
11. to #4-7-9
yehoshua ,   usa   (06.26.10)
There was no call for a pal state before 1967. There where no settlements before 1967. You are just arabs who want to distory the Jewish state of Israel. You fool no one.
12. #11 You would think things change since 1967
Nour ,   Palestine   (06.26.10)
For example, the US sent a man to the moon. The US went to war in Vietnam, the USSR grew in power then collapsed suddently in the late 1980s. China was relatively unknown. I don't see why you're bringing the past to justify the status quo. People who live in the past are prisoners to their own paranoia an nostalgia.
13. #12: You would think things changed since 1948
A.S. ,   DC, USA   (06.29.10)
"People who live in the past are prisoners to their own paranoia and nostalgia." A perfect description of your leaders who demand a "right of return". Lots has changed since 1948.
