1. Misleading
Eddie   (06.29.10)
Hamas has been trying to keep order with the new radical elements, they do not come under their jurisdiction/instruction as you imply. As for Greta Berlin, what do you want her to do, denounce Hamas? She is trying to help the people of Gaza.
2. Where is Salma Now?
Ariel ,   São Paulo Brazil   (06.29.10)
What happen Salma ? Why you do not comment this article? My be you want to put this article in Hamas News... Tks Anav , for this excellent article
3. But That's What We Want!
Fatima ,   Palestine, Texas   (06.29.10)
But we love our burkas and niqabs! We don't want jeans and jobs. We don't want to swim and dance. The Koran and our men will tell us what to do. We don't want to be free. We don't want to make decisions for ourself. That's much too difficult. All we want to do is to make babies that will be martyrs, and to please our husbands, fathers and brothers. We don't want to know the world, we don't want to know other men than the ones chosen by our families. We have asked Master Filmmaker Meil Abu Som to make a movie about us, 'What Muslim Women Want.' He can use titles from old movie. He thinks like us about many things.
4. Sharing The Glories of Islam
Fatima ,   Palestine, Texas   (06.29.10)
We would also like to share our husbands with Western women, so they can get to know the blessings of Islam first-hand. Once you go Islam, all else turns dim. And imagine not having to worry about daughters rebelling, because they will not get the education.to open their minds. Like our Taliban brothers are burning down schools in Afghanistan, all education outside Arabia will end. Arabs are the essence of Islam and will rule the world. Nobody else needs an education, it's only dangerous.
5. Shame on Greta Berlin
Deedee ,   USA   (06.29.10)
Everything is allowed as long as it is against Israel. Doesn't matter that Hamas is terrorists and sending back women 100 years. Greta Berlin is contributing to unemancipation of Palestinian women, shame on you Greta.
6. Phyllis Chesler, American psychologist
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (06.29.10)
who made her early fame as a feminist scholar and activist, has expressed grim remonstration when she describes "feminists" like Greta Berlin (Phyllis' contemporary) who care not a twit for women in the mideastern world but do apply all their energy to demonize the State of Israel. Phyllis Chesler has a blogsite, incidentally, which can be googled. for the Reader's interest, I am including the address of a video entitled "Mass Muslim Marriage: Hamas Plays Host to Pedophilia": http://thelastcrusade.org/2009/08/07/hamas-plays-host-to-pedophilia. Ir really is a disgusting video showing 145 adult men all dressed formally in black with their young brides all dressed formally in white standing before them. None of the girls are over nine years of age. All are made-up with heavy eye shadow and what appears to be rouge. It's too bad Greta Berlin isn't exposed to this video. Or would she care?
7. Please stop "caring" about us
ahmed ,   london   (06.29.10)
you might have convinced the world hamas and hezbollah are terrorists, but israel needs to just go away with its propaganda. as if convincing the world of the big israeli lie wasnt enough, you keep trying to convince us how nasrallah is a snake and hamas is responsible for gaza's woes. thanks very much, but we live with these people, we know them, way better than you do. and we dont need your advice. we're very grateful for how much you love us, but spare us the theatre. if the women of gaza and other movements want to back hamas, IT IS FOR A REASON. SO GO AWAY.
8. Greta's help to gazan women
Robert ,   South Africa   (06.29.10)
Greta Berlin is basically performing Sunna circumcision on the women of gaza
9. Hey Eddie #1, not misleading at all. In fact, too mild!
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (06.29.10)
Get a life, Eddie. You think these people are really "trying to help the people of Gaza"??? Are you that gullible and naieve? If anybody really wanted to help the people of Gaza, they'd be doing their best to get rid of Hamas and reform Fatah. Greta Berlin is just a dupe being used by Hamas. Where was she 10 years ago if she was so concerned? When Hamas was throwing Fatah people off of apartment buildings and shooting them dead in the street 5 years ago, where was she? Greta Berlin is a headline grabbing opportunist, as are many of the "free Gaza" members. They really couldn't care less for the future of the Palestinians, but they do indeed hate Israel and/or Jews and this is a great way for them to express that hatred in a politically correct way. That you fell for it only proves how good the Palestinian propaganda machine is.
10. #1
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (06.29.10)
you say that "Hamas has been trying to keep order with the new radical elements" - hamas IS a radical element and they don't like competition from other terrorists. if greta berlin REALLY wanted to help the people of gaza, she'd denounce hamas and the bloodthirsty palestinians who want to also commit genocide while oppressing anyone except pious male muslims who pray at the same mosque as them.
11. Do not cheat yourself
Paul ,   Rome   (06.29.10)
I am a researcher and have been many times to Gaza and Israel. it is not good to cheat readers by arranging events on a way that let us see in a way which is not real. I can write in the same way about Israel in a very disgusting way by choosing and focusing in certain events and problems in your society that make you feel that you live in inhuman society. that way of seeing people do not help as we start to make our decisions very wrong. I saw in Gaza woman wearing jeans and very style red shirts. I was invited to a musical concert and enjoyed there. there are a lot to tell. Please try to visit Gaza and make a very little research better than writing by collecting your words from news in a nor professional. way. Please respect your readers
12. #2 Hey, I'm not Hamas spokeswoman!!!
Salma ,   Palestine   (06.29.10)
Any way.........Actions by Hamas in Gaza is a great shame, whether against women or against the citizens in general, but no one can expect from a religious movement, but such behavior, this is bad, but on the other hand I'm happy that my people try life under the religious system , It is believed that it applied the law of God in the earth, thus, in the future to think a thousand times before going on behind the slogans and empty promises. I disagree with the author, I think that Greta Berlin is right to come to Gaza, she is supporting the people there and not Hamas, should not leave the women and the people alone. When someone loses hope, whether man or woman , it will automatically turn to religion, people arrived here also because of "Israel's" policies, this is a fact and not a spurious charge !
13. Fatima from Texas- come to Gaza
JO   (06.29.10)
if seems as if you have run away from what you truly want to live in a country that does not have those values. Why do you flee your true country. There are plenty pure Muslim countries where you can live freely as a muslim woman. Leave the USA.
14. Ahmed who lives in London
joe   (06.29.10)
Why dont you live in an Islamic country? There are plenty. Why do you choose to live in the UK? That is the saftest place to really live as a Muslim- in a Muslim country. And one more- who made you spokesperson for all Muslim woman??? Yourself. You assume all Muslim woman agree with you?
15. Paul
tFighterPilot   (06.29.10)
When was the last time you visited Gaza?
16. #11 Gaza vacation land
A ,   Belgium   (06.29.10)
Are you sure you aren't talking about Tel Aviv by mistake? I was also in Gaza, Khan Yunis to be exact. There was/is a large mosque with a round dome. It had a very large star of David with a knife stuck through it painted on the roof. Men and women swam separatly at the beaches. I did not see any women wearing anything other than traditional moslem clothing.
17. #11 what!!!!
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (06.29.10)
You were in Gaza and actually saw a musical concert as well as women dressed in stylish jeans and red shirts? I thought there was famine and people were dying in the streets? By the way, do you agree with the Hamas charter that calls for the extermination of the Jews? Is that considered a valid opinion in Rome? Do you agree with Abba refusing to give Hamas oil for their electrical generators? Because of him (not Israel) Gazans don't have electricity. Do you agree with Mubarak's blockade of Gaza?
18. Gaza women's lives more important than their veils!
Rako ,   USA   (06.29.10)
The Free Gaza women's group apparently feels that it's more important for Gaza's women to be free from a military siege than to give up wearing veils. Maybe that's what real honorable women believe in- caring for people no matter whether they are Jewish or Muslim!
19. orientalist dream forever!!!
yyeliz ,   istanbul TR   (06.29.10)
it is the old but always updated dream of orientalists to see the non-western values as archaic and dangerous. in order to legitimize the western values, they has to be transformed and modernized!!! otherwise, they can be a threat!! for any modern and western people. It is really enough is enough!!! Please stop judging people's ways of life. Let anyone to live in their ways. Also, getting rid of the Hamas is not the first issue. First of all, Palestinian people should get their freedom and get rid of living under Israel's blockade. Then, it should be their (the Gazan people) own choice either to get rid of Hamas or to go on with Hamas.
20. #15 #16
Paul ,   Rome   (06.29.10)
#15 last time may 2010 #16 I were in Gaza, khanyounes and Rafah. Yes I saw graffiti against Israel but on walls, on the ground I saw the source of this ugly drawings, it is what Israeli army did (not drownings but real). so who push some people in Gaza to draw this is killing and mass destruction made by Israel. I saw a very pretty and stylish girls smoking Argilla in Aldira hotel, beach hotel, Mazaj cafe, Mutahaf cafe, Al-remal streets and in many places. I used my both eyes to see negative and positive things to see it as it not as the other want. there are many negative sides in Gaza but there is a lot to see to understand the situation there. Believe me, the situation there is totally different than what we read in media, and to help both people, Israel and world should read Gaza as it not as how we want to see it. let us be objectives and help ourselves
21. Re;#1-Spoken like a true apparachik.
Bartley Kulp ,   Afulla, Israel   (06.29.10)
22. Who cares after all...
Arrow   (06.29.10)
If muslims want to pursue that way of life, no one is stopping them... the problem is when they try to force it on others who might not like it at all. Recent migrations show that many muslims actually leave their muslim countries in order to find better life somewhere in the West. Decadence of prosperous West has certain appeal, after all, islamists just exploit it. They are many and loud.. but no one takes them seriously cept characters like greta berlin. BTW, is that fatima for real?! LOL
23. #17
Paul ,   Rome   (06.29.10)
I am not agreeing Israel, Hamas, Abbas and Mubark I am not supporting Hamas or Israel. I am just telling what I have witnessed. it is really important to open our eyes and go down to earth to know what is really happening. when I talked about girls and what they are wearing, I just wanted to stress that I saw a different reality on the ground and that does not mean that there is not a human disaster due to blockade. I think the moment we change our mind in a way that look to things as it, people will get peace, security and love.
24. #7 - perhaps you and your lies need to disappear
William ,   Israel   (06.29.10)
Israel isn't going anywhere but you have the golden opportunity to create a State for yourselves and live as peaceful neighbors. Too much for you to bear? To hard to focus on a life when Israel exists? Too hard to sleep when you know a Jew next door has the same rights as Arabs? You can end your lies and stop your violence, and you'll have peace. You just choose NOT to, and that's the real problem here.
25. Greta Berlin calling Israel terrorist
Donatus ,   Srasbourg, France   (06.29.10)
which decent person in the world does not call Israel a terrorist state? Only Israel could change this, by behaving like a civilized country. Would be great!
26. Yeliz hanim
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (06.29.10)
Gaza is actually under the blockade of Hamas. Let me explain. In the west Bank where Hamas is not in power there is no blockade. In Gaza also there was no blockade until Hamas came into power and started to launch rockets to Israel killing civilians such as little children Dorit Benisian and Yuval Abebeh. This is why getting rid of Hamas is the first thing to do. Palestinian Arabs should free themselves from Hamas. Gaza is not under Israeli occupation for the last 3 years. The west is not trying to legitimize their values by seeing non-western values as archaic. What legitimizes the western civilization is the achievements in science, technology, medicine, arts, philosophy, literature, space exploration, quality of life etc. Iyi uykularYeliz.
27. #23
(06.29.10)
"not supporting Hamas" but also not speaking against genocide of the Jews? you have a great moral compass. Tell us when you change the mind of Hamas, Abbas and Mubarak with his cruel blockade of Gaza, and then we'll talk about love.
28. anav silverman throws a temper, because people in gaza got
eproue ,   europe   (06.29.10)
wheelchairs and some food...? anav, that was a cheap and embarrassing try to mislead...
29. :: First Kurdish people need to get rid of Turkish oppressor
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (06.29.10)
The same applies to Armenian people, Greek people, Cypriot people and the Arabs of Alexandretta/Iskandur/Hatay. Turks will then be able to be free to go back to their homeland of Uighurstan.
30. #11 - Hahah, how long ago was this?
William ,   Israel   (06.29.10)
Perhaps back in the 1990s that was true, but since Hamas came to power - 1) Internet cafes have been bombed, 2) weddings have been trashed and some guests shot, 3) a couple on a beach who were soon to be wed were gunned down for being "immoral", 4) Christian centers and the American school have been trashed. 5) laws have been passed to force women lawyers to wear burqas in court. and this all was mentioned as a policy change for Gaza by Hamas who stated they wanted a more Islamic-moral society...right after they killed Fatah members and beat up women.
