32. Something is missing here
Yerach ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (07.07.10)
If Rabbi Ashkenazi from Kfar Chabad married her parents that you can bet your bottom shekel that they are 100 % Jewish beyond the shadow of a doubt. Rabbi Ashkenazi's standards in all areas is far stricter than the rabanut & if he says they are Jewish they are indeed Jewish. Something is missing here.
33. to #18
observer   (07.07.10)
observer 'gets it' only too well, sir. In fact observer knows quite well that the individuals staffing the offices of the Israeli Rabbinate are untrained and largely incompetent. In fact they are a blight on Judaism. The reason however is not, as Lubitch claims, the result of Torah or the 'rabbinical class' in general, but because the rabbinate was created solely to serve the State. As such, what calibre of person is going to fill its ranks? Someone akin those filling similar posts in other totalitarian states that need to keep up appearances by preserving a (grovelling) clergy. Since the rabbinate is indeed a tool of the state, I am surprised that the state does not get involved in those parts of its duties that do not rightly belong to the rabbinate, such as investigating genealogy, and leave alone the parts of their work that do rightly belong to them, such as rendering the decisions based on Jewish Law. #26 has raised some extremely valid points, but I would also add that I personally see no harm in creating a civil marriage system in Israel, divorced from the rabbinate, just as there exists an Israeli citizenship separate from Jewishness. It would only mean that future generations (of descendants of the civil marriages) would be totally blacklisted from intermarriage with Jews. But who cares?
34. prove you are Jewish
bear ,   zefat, israel   (07.07.10)
Has Ms. Lubitch conferred with the Rabbinical court to hear their side of the story? If not then she should do so at once!
35. in privacy only, as a girl it can't be except that way
observer   (07.07.10)
it easier for a boy to show his circumcision.
36. Soviet Jewery
Rebecca ,   Canada   (07.07.10)
So, let me get this straight When the Soviet Union were persecuting Jews even though people were not allowed to practice any type of religion. The Soviets continue to identify Jews and make their lives unbearable. We in the West during the 1970's and 80's were working so hard to liberate our Jewish brothers and sisters from the Soviet Union and get them to Israel. NOW, these Rabbis and bureaucrats are stating that these same persecuted Jews and their children are not really Jewish. This is beyond ridiculous. This is more about the abuse of power and ego then about "who is a Jew". Shame on all of these so called investigators. By the way, my parents met and married in Israel in the early 1950's by the head rabbi of Israel. But I guess that would'nt be good enough today.
37. Do any of you know anything about Judaism?
Joseph ,   London   (07.07.10)
Sorry, Judaism needs a conversion to become a member of the covenent, and if you don't have one you arn't Jewish. If there is a good reason, like a dodgy giyur where nothing was done right or there is little evidence, then the fact is prove it or convert. If you don't like it, fine but admit at least that your position has nothing to do with Judaism
38. To #35 Observer
Ruth ,   Israel   (07.08.10)
Many non-Jews are circumcized, so this means nothing.
39. proof is in the DNA
al-kafir al-yahudi ,   usa   (07.08.10)
all this after a DNA study shows that Jews are genetically linked. DNA test should be part of the proof. if the test turns out positive, then no need for a conversion. if it doesn't, then do a conversion.
40. in no other religion, race is the dominator

41. to #40 wrong shinto r all native japanese
ghostq   (07.08.10)
so go do your research. you look at religioun from eyes of muslim, Islam much like chritianity accepted everybody, but Judaism and other race religiouns in close society didn't, not all Muslims r semitic, like Turks who were before chritians, and before that they were pagans with far east origin. indonesia were Induists budahists. unlike Islame and due to getto living (even in arab countries) jews kept their faith and their race.
42. how can proving faith weaker than DNA proof?
observer   (07.08.10)
how can conversion be next step, if you can't prove blood born religion?
