31. BGU hypocrisy
Isaac Barr MD ,   Detroit, USA   (07.04.10)
The innocent remark by a lecturer at Ben Gurion University has to be matched by the continuous activity of Neve Gordon a professor at BGU. His anti Israel activity that verges on treason is not recognized by BGU president. Neve Gordon travels the world advocating boycott of Isarel academics, Israel products. He calls for divestments from companies doing business with Israel, he collaborates with enemies of Israel to defame and delegitimize the country in which he lives. Rather than dealing with an irrelevant comment it is Neve Gordon who has to be expelled from the University. The mere existance of Israel is at stake. Without Israel gays and Lesbians have no future. They are being hanged in Iran and they will be hanged in "Palestine".
32. Hey gays4israel - who is worse? Queers for Palestine!
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (07.04.10)
The worst abomination of anti-Israel stupidity must be the Toronto group Queers for Palestine. Those jerks support Hamas and life in Gaza, which is about as anti-Gay as one can get. Then, of course, they're anti-Israel, which is about the only safe haven for Gays in the Middle East. There you go - now you know who is worse.
33. Bible outlawed?
Yonason Herschlag   (07.04.10)
The words and teachings of the Five Books of Moses, the best selling book of all time, Jewish ethics and traditions - are not acceptable to be spoken on campus even as a private opinion. And this is considered a place of "higher" education?
34. BGU Dead Wrong
M Carr ,   Baltimore   (07.04.10)
"There is no room for personal opinions that offend some of the students," the letter read. I am a right-wing conservative Christian who attended a liberal college and I endured offensive opinions very often from professors and fellow students. I did not choose, however, to rush off to complain to the faculty whenever I was offended. Instead, I chose to defend my opinion in the classroom. Believe me; I managed to sway quite few to my way of thinking. BGU is dead wrong on this one.
35. How can one call himself a Jew and condemn this man?
Orozco ,   Caracas   (07.04.10)
When one Jew takes a stand for Morality and decency he's Condemn and ridicule, what have gone wrong with the JEWS?, ARE WE NOT PEOPLE OF THE BOOK? we no longer have any regard for our History our identity condemn yourselves before you condemn Dr Yeruham
36. Shame on BGU
Sheljen ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.04.10)
I agree that BGU has bowed to a double standard by firing the Professor for his remarks in class. When will the BGU take action against Neve Gordon? And who is the main person at BGU who fired him??!! Is there perhaps some hidden agenda there?
37. Gays demand rights, but rob others of their right
AB ,   TheRock   (07.04.10)
to say what they think. Twisted minds indeed!
38. 1 opinion allowed the other snobbed
Domocracy? ,   IL   (07.04.10)
During a discussion on artificial insemination among same-sex couples, a female student said children of gay parents may be influenced by their parents' sexual inclination. Another student, a homosexual, took offense to the comment and said clinical research has shown children of same-sex couples develop normally. SO THAT MEANS THIS PARTICULAR HOMOSEXUAL DIDNT FEEL NORMAL BUT CAN BRING UP CHILDREN NORMALLY-

40. The militant homosexual movement...
Stan Goodenough ,   Jerusalem   (07.04.10)
...has heterosexuals fearful of their own shadows - and at Ben Gurion Uni wins again! Astonishing!! Stop calling them gay. Gay means happy, not same-sex lustful.
41. to #8 well said
ghostq   (07.04.10)
it's ethical issue, where is the fine line, I meant r the profesors must obay certain line if not get fired, normaly that is how dictatorship works, it doesn't matter if it's wrong or right, there is a huge distance btween insulting a person and making provocative debate of ethical backgroung, and to lose source of income, I really believe their extream opinon is something they should reconsider.
42. Well done. Intolerance cannot be tolerated
Elly ,   Vienna, Austria   (07.04.10)
Well done. Intolerance by stupid people cannot be tolerated.
43. The Truth be damned
Ilan ,   Ariel   (07.04.10)
Academic freedom doesn't cover offending special interests.
44. Fire Ben Gurion U Administration
Guardian of Israel ,   Israel   (07.04.10)
Trying to market oneself as the pinnacle of tolerance, reason and understanding and then acting just the opposite is among other things deceit in the extreme. My late uncle who proudly called himself an athiest (I called him a 'devout' athiest) who had a genius IQ as did all his children called British universities "moral cesspools". This was over 30 years ago. Look at the many top German academics in the 1930s who supported killing factories on a massive scale. What went wrong? The issue at Ben Gurion University should be discussed at the Knesset level as it undermines the State of Israel and all what it was designed to stand for. We have lost our way and will fall prey to our enemies at this rate.

46. free speech, free speech!!!

47. as an iranian
(07.04.10)
it is very very interesting to me that this professor was fired because of his right to an opinion. don't you think his opinion was MILD IN COMPARISSON TO WHAT PROFESSOR NEVE GORDON DID WHEN HE WROTE A HUGE ARTICLE IN THE LA TIMES IN THE USA THAT THE WORLD MUST BOYCOTT ISRAEL AND DIVEST FROM IT?????????????????????? yet, neve gordon stil keeps his position as head of a department in the ben gurion universitry without any consequences for his abominable behavior against israel while on tour in the usa. where is the justice? i am not saying that this professor's comment is moral and nice. but, there is a very big difference between one professor that goes abroad and begs the world to divest and boycott his country and one that claims his opinion about gays and their children. both are incorrect. but neve gordon has stepped over the line compared to this professor. hameed aboughaze, iranian
48. Diaspora gay father opinion
Georges Bruno ,   France/USA/Canada   (07.04.10)
Our daughter (we are secular but loving tradition, Jewish gay dads) has been going to a private catholic school in Paris for 3 years in Paris. It was the first time that school accepted a Jewish kid with 2 dads and all they asked us was to meet with the bishop since all our "credentials" passed their admission tests. After 3 years, despite the anxiety expressed by the board at first, we have been "voted" best parents. Our daughter is well adjusted, extremely happy and we are the most popular family in that school. Lecturers, professors etc.. are entitled to their opinion, letting them express themselves opens up a dialogue. Repression of speech is not the answer. I defy anyone to find an educational/affectional flaw in our family. Now, why a private ctatholic school and not a Jewish (or secular) school? Well, Jewish schools require a birth cert matching a Ketoubah!! Not to worry, our daughter is very aware and proud of her Jewishness. ere thinking about taking her for 1 year to Israel but I am concerned about how we would be received and if schools require Ketoubah, no idea what to do. All that to say (sorry to be lengthy) that same sexparents can raise wonderful kids totally aware and not influenced by their parents sexuality.

Marty   (07.04.10)
I know this is a difficult concept for you, but, contrary to the typical leftist world view, freedom of speech does NOT mean the freedom for to say only what YOU want to hear. Freedom of speech requires that you must suffer the indignity and offense of hearing opinions you find offensive lest someone else deprive you of the right to say things they find offensive. Restrictions based solely on the CONTENT of the speech are, therefore, ALWAYS WRONG. Only if the speech has the clear and present danger of causing immediate and imminent physical harm to others (like yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theatre when there is no fire) can any limitation be tolerated. So, for those of you who don't like to hear opinions either from people who believe that homosexuality is not normal or who rabidly hate settlers, suck it up. That's democracy for you. If you don't like it, move to an Islamic country where they will happily shoot you on the spot for saying anything that "offends" their "dignity."

51. I'm offended when homosexuals equate....
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (07.04.10)
a same-sex relationship to a man-woman relationship. It's clearly different. I think it devalues our heterosexual relationships, which are biologically and socially preferable. Would a professor be terminated for offending a student who feels this way. Would he/she be terminated if he/she said my opinion is "homophobic"? I don't think so.
52. Professor fired for anti-gay remarks
Ger ,   Raanana, Israel`   (07.04.10)
But the anti-Israel professors are still collecting their salaries, even as they call for boycotts of Israeli universities. Strange priorities.
53. So, fire Neve Gordon; he offends me.
Cowboy Joe ,   Canada   (07.04.10)
BGU is a laughing stock! A hypocritical garbage dump.
54. Should said he hated Israel for job security

56. Academic tyranny
DS ,   Kiryat Arba   (07.04.10)
This whole thing is absurd, and reeks of bias on the part of the school, not of the lecturer. What he said is perfectly acceptable and in no way offensive. If those poor gays are so sensitive that they cannot hear one word against their lifestyle, maybe they should stay in a glass bubble and away from universities. I fully support you, Professor. If you need a job and I can help, please let me know. I hope you find a better place than that inane school. The First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States is obviously unknown in this backward part of the world. Don't take it to heart: these people are feeble -minded. Trust in God and his Torah, and everything will be OK with you.

Homophobe, Schmomophobe... the moment something isn't pleasing to them, they scream racism, the ultimate trump card. We have seen those screaming racism in more than one setting, and they are so transparent, so RACIST themselves, it's not funny. Been there, done that.
