Samuel Barel ,   Toronto, Canada   (07.05.10)
With all the holocaust hoopla, most of you forget about football, and Spain IS and WILL BE the top team. Arriba EspaƱa, Champions!
33. #4 I support you and Holland
Golan ,   Modiin   (07.05.10)
I am not comfortable with Germany and when the US played Iran I did not support Iran for historical/nationalistic reasons. I also do not watch the games. I'll wait for the paper the day after to find out the election... oops I mean the score.
34. # 3
Birdi ,   Israel   (07.06.10)
Omri, as long as Israel exists, there will never be another Holocaust. I do agree with your post.
35. mistake
Birdi ,   Israel   (07.06.10)
My post for # 3 is for # 5.
36. I go with Uruguay
Tahl ,   Ashdod   (07.06.10)
Because they are the underdogs who nobody expected to go this far, because they are a small humble country, because they have played very well despite (or perhaps because of) having lackluster players with no superstars, because of the miraculous fashion in which they made it to the semi-finals, and because their country was the friendliest toward the Jews and Israel. My second choice would be Germany. Lahm and Schwineshaiger (or however the hell you spell his name) are just amazing.
37. Never believe Germany is not the same !!!
avi   (07.05.10)

38. Why hating Germany is wrong
Daniel Breslauer ,   Jerusalem   (07.06.10)
It's too bad many people just continue to hate "Germany" - for me, I believe we should hate the (neo-)Nazis. People who just have a blind hatred against Germany seem to ignore/forget that Nazis existed outside of Germany as well, and that not all Germans were (nor are!) Nazis. The Austrians first and foremost, but also significant percentages of the Dutch, Polish, French, Romanian and Czech peoples were Nazis, and they are no less to blame than todays' Germans are. In fact - and you may consider this quite controversial - I find some Israeli Jews, such as the "Kach" movement, to be much closer to Nazism than even the ultra-right European political parties, and a lot more dangerous as well. It would be wise for the anti-Germany people to focus on combating our internal extreme right fascists, instead of blaming those whose parents or grandparents were war criminals. We should fight fascism, ultra-nationalism that turns into violence, and racism and unjust discrimination of any kind. I don't care whether the perpetrators call themselves the Aryan race, the guardians of Islam, the pure mountain Swiss, the fighters for a free Palestine, or the liberators of (Zionist) Hebron. Anyone whose ideology includes elevating one people / race over another in a way that this actually offends and hurts them, is wrong. Religion is something else, of course - as long as it does not offend and hurt, and is not carried out in a physical way.
39. Germany has changed since 1945
Me   (07.06.10)
Societies change and evolve. The German players, their coaches, and nearly all of their fans were either children or not even born during WW2 and played no role in the Shoah. These Germans grew up in a free and democratic society that was aligned with the west, in which anti-Semitic acts such as attempting to suppress and deny the Holocaust are banned and in which a German president said "there can be no reconciliation without remembrance." The German and West German governments have, for decades, been friendly toward Israel, banned neo-Nazi parties (as much to save Germany from relapses of craziness) and made no effort to suppress the memory of the Shoah (unlike communist countries during the Soviet era). I have family who were murdered by the Nazis. But the German team doesn't represent Nazi Germany. It represents a country whose ideology and society are radically different - which the Nazis would have regarded with horror and anger. I visit Germany every few years, for business reasons. I am visibly Jewish. And I have never encountered any anti-Semitism in Germany. It exists, of course; but anti-Semitism in Germany today is much less pervasive than in many western European countries. There is nothing wrong with an Israeli or a Jew rooting for a German team.
40. Politics have nothing to do with football!
Elliot ,   Ashdod, Israel   (07.06.10)
I am happy to support Germany. They play exciting football and what has football got to do with the holocaust? My wife is German, her family took no part in the holocaust. Not supporting Germany because of past events is tarring Germans of today with the same brush as the nazi's. There will still be Germans who uphold the beliefs of the Nazi's but again what has that got to do football and the majority of the German population? I haven't and will never forget the holocaust, supporting Germany won't change that.
41. Tahl, #36
Jens ,   Germany   (07.06.10)
His name is Schweinsteiger: Schwein = pig Steiger = attendant/supervisor I don't know if there's a direct correlation between his name and the fact that he's the captain of the German team... :)
42. Oops!
Jens ,   Germany   (07.06.10)
Lahm's the captain. Rats! This could have been such a nice joke.
43. I hope Germany loses
Moshe ,   Israel   (07.06.10)
I will never cheer for the German team. Even worse, they have 2 Turkish-born soccer players on their team. This makes me hope they lose even more. I will cheer for everyone except the Germans.

47. Change
Ming Yao ,   China   (06.04.12)
Germany is like Imperial Japan, yes? Seeking to prey on the weak and helpless...I do hope Germany shows that it is willing to change. Millions of Chinese were slaughtered during the Holocaust, we sympathize with the Israelis' plight.
