2. "reassess" as you will
Cameron ,   USA   (07.06.10)
But you & I both know we are the only game in town. Patience. He is but a moment in time, and you'll simply have to keep him at arm's length until we run him out the door come 2012.
3. Wow - He makes Sense
Norman   (07.06.10)
There is no end to weakness thus no end to yielding but at some point you have to ask whether you will be able to defend against the enemies when they choose to go to war ???
4. a heart lifiting clarion call to israel to stand your ground
debra ,   usa   (07.06.10)
against the feckless oybama.
5. Friends can disagree
(07.06.10)
Just say no. Other means and options will provide themselves when you take a stand for what you believe in and what is right and just.
6. Prof.Eldad's fine piece
RayS ,   USA   (07.06.10)
The recent July 4th here in the USA causes us to recall the founding fathers of our country. Pro Eldad would be right at home with these clear thinking, brave men. They, like Israelis today faced huge odds..As an Israeli soldier said to me in Oct 1973, near the Sinai canal, "Win We Shall"...I believe you will.
7. Eldad dear, you are a moron, no more double standard
Dave   (07.06.10)
The fact prvious presidents prefered to close their eyes to Israel's illegal nuclear prgram doesn't mean it was right. You can't talk of Iran nuclear program without mentioning Israel's. Don't like it? go finf new freinds moron, perhaps Turkey?
8. Yes He Can and Yes He Will!
Yes He Can! ,   Arlington VA   (07.06.10)
Obama, despite MK Eldads's rantings, is a true friend of Israel. True friends tell you unpleasant truths and look to help you avoid self-destructive actions. Israel's been on a long self-destructive cycle, isolating itself further through relentless settlement and other belligerant actions. MK Eldad represents everything that's wrong with Israel and hopefully Obama will help Bibi sober up and save Israel.
9. #7 Hey Abu "Dave"
Thomas ,   "Ishrail"   (07.06.10)
Just a reminder that Israel's nuclear programs started in the 50-es with FRENCH help so please shove the "illegal" label back to your Obamao's behind. Care to elucidate us as to what was "illegal" during the 50-es for the French and "Ishrailis"? You hardcore Obamabots keep vomiting the same nonsense over and over. On the other hand ALL the US program was built by JEWS: from Einstein to E.Teller none of them were American by birth. The blind worship of your Obamao destroyed your ability to think.
10. #8 Obama is a motivational speaker and not a very good one.
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.06.10)
#8. You say Obama is a true friend of Israel and knows what is best for Israel. Obama is one of America's worst presidents ever. His policies are devastating the U.S. economy. Taxes, unemployment and deficits are skyrocketing. Obamacare is one of the most unpopular laws in U.S. history. Obama's foreign policy of reviling allies and begging enemies for acceptance is pathetic. Obama is only a motivational speaker. And not a very good one. Tony Robbins is far better than Obama and Robbins doesn't need a teleprompter.
11. Spot on. Obama is a disaster for America & Israel.
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.06.10)
Even before the election, there was every reason to believe Obama would be the disastrous president he is. America has never had a president before whose friends were a collection of radical anarchists, whose past is largely sealed, and whose sole asset is his skill with a teleprompter. Today most Americans, who voted for Obama, deeply regret their choice. America is in damage control mode till Obama is gone. Meanwhile Israel must never surrender to Obama's evil demands and work closely with Obama's huge and ever growing opposition, who are mostly very friendly to Israel.
12. Israel must become independent.
JSM   (07.06.10)
Israel must become independent of US aid. It will only get harder to do so. And sooner or later the price will be too high.
13. BS
Sherman ,   USA   (07.06.10)
The US is a friend that is committed to the security of the State of Israel like no other nation in the world. Don't l.et this clown distort the facts and sometimes friends have to agree to disagree and who better to tell you that you are wrong sometimes other than your friend. If you look at the mutual security cooperation dozens of security council veto's, objections etc who is this clown fooling. What other nation has done as much for Israel?
14. Eldad
sam ,   sf, usa   (07.06.10)
We are sick and tired of ungrateful people like Eldad who have been taking billions of our dollars and depend on us for survival yet have the audacity to project that our survival depends on Israel. Assess as you wish and feel free to boycott us as well.
15. Even if we have to leave USA for good

16. Without THE U.S.A, Israel will be eaten alive
American   (07.06.10)
17. Prof. Eldad is living in a dream world
John R ,   NYC USA   (07.06.10)
Three times the entire UN Security Council (sans the US) voted for world wide economic sanctions against Israel. Were it not for the US vetoes there would be no Israel. The US gives Israel the equivalent of $1,400 per family in military and cash aid. Your entire high tech industry would move under a world wide embargo. A third of your high tech industry has already moved to the US. The main difference between Rabin and today is two wars the US is fighting as a result of its unbridled support of Israel. Stop playing the victim and use your brains. The settlements are illegal. Make peace with security which former members of Shin Bet say is doable and then start rebuilding relationships you need to guarantee your future.
18. This guy is nuts
StevieT ,   USA   (07.06.10)
What a great foreign policy, break relations with the entire world. Say to the world, "come on, I'll fight you all with one hand tied behind my back." I know the pressure of living in your 'neighborhood' is difficult to say the least, and it seems to have cracked this writer altogether for him to write such an absurd piece. Obama's come and go, but the will of the American people does not. Israel would do well to cooperate as much as possivble and not alienate the American populace during the time it takes to get through this era.
19. Be consistent, Mr. Eldad...
FO ,   BELGIUM   (07.06.10)
Some time ago, you pretended to initiate a debate in the Knesset about Israel's right concerning the so called "West-Bank", the Golan Heights and the whole of Jerusalem, based on the decisions of the League of Nations, and valid to this day in INTERNATIONAL LAW, due to Article 80 of the Charter of the United Nations. As far as I know, nothing happened. May I advise you to join the "Office for Israeli Constitutional Law" who are active with the above matter and wrote letters to Secretary of State Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Mitchell for possible legal option against them, for breaching the Anglo-American Treaty of 1924 concerning the Mandate for Palestine.
20. And ,do you want us to be without Coca Cola and Bubble Gum ?

21. Reassesing Obama
Joshua ,   USA   (07.06.10)
What a bunch of typical Israeli BULLSHIT and from a Kennest member who is a "Professor"! Obama is one of the most intelligent (albeit idealist and naive still) president the US ever had - time will prove that, however - he is on a learning curve. Just as he learned that his conciliatory bullshit talk made Ahmadinijad laugh, and his concilliatory overtures towards Radical Muslims have been rebuffed - he will have to learn that overpressuring Israel to cross red lines will not fly and it is Netanyahoo's job (just as Rabin before him) to make it clear that Israel is not going to compromise its future and security. No need for phobic propoganda from dumb pseudo experts to poison the relations - just be strong, stand your ground and you will gain the respect you deserve! Crawl and kiss ass - every body will shit on you! It is that simple - ask Ahmadinejad!
22. It's already a done deal, & set in stone, #12
Cameron ,   USA   (07.06.10)
The price of breaking the alliance would be unbearable for Israel. Israel would become an absolutely despised pariah state, and your many blood enemies would begin to move in a truly serious manner. There are no other options.
23. Complete nonsense
Ussishkin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (07.06.10)
The "Professor" misses the truth - of course he does, just like many of his ilk, Barak Obama sins in that his name is also Hussein. But he hasn't sinned when it came to his commitment to keep Israel up to date with the latest weapons or on his UN voting record for Israel. For the "Professor", Bibi probably isn't right wing enough, but for the rational amongst us, the truth is obvious. Bibi isn't the man and occupation provides us with absolutely no future.
24. No Divorce yet!
Challenger ,   Athens, Greece   (07.06.10)
I am so sad... the US represents all the best values in relation to democracy and to the "western" world. On these values, the US have adopted Israel which shared similar values to those in the US. Israel has not changed... the US is changing. I fear the day that the divorce will take place. But if your beloved one, even being wealthier, betrays you - then, you have to let it go... God! Please make the US return to what they've always been - strong, just and loyal. So that the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave! In America and in Israel!
25. Aryeh Eldad would make a great Prime Minister
Marcella   (07.06.10)
He is a man with intelligence, integrity, and the capacity to lead. He could unite secular and religious Jews under a banner of love for the land, courage, dignity, and respect for Jewish values and heritage.
26. For a review of the USA true relationship with Israel
Marcella   (07.07.10)
Please read Francisco Gil-White study "Is the US an Ally of Israel?" A sample: - After 1945, the US created US Intelligence by recruiting tens of thousands of Nazi war criminals. - 1947-48: Forced by external circumstances, the US government gave lukewarm support to the creation of the State of Israel. But then it reversed itself and implemented policies designed to destroy Israel. - 1949-1953: In Israel's hour of supreme need, the US allied with Israel's mortal enemies. - 1964-1967: Although Israel suffered terrorist attacks from its Arab neighbors during these years, when they staged a full-scale military provocation, the US REFUSED TO HELP. - 1967: After the Six-Day War, the US put pressure on Israel to relinquish the territory gained, even though it knew it was indispensable to Israeli defense. - 1975: The US reached an agreement with Israel not to have contacts with the PLO. The US immediately violated the agreement. - 1981: The US pushed for a PLO state in the West Bank against Israeli objections. - 1982-1983: The US military rushed into Lebanon to protect the PLO from the Israelis. Since the very beginning of modern Israel there has been persistent US intervention to favor the Arabs and undermine Israel's security and chances for survival. The "talk" of US support for Israel is nothing but lip service to attract Jewish financial support to politicians' electoral campaigns. It's all an act. Facts show the true nature of US intentions towards Israel.. By the way, the often cited US military aid to Israel is actually an obstacle to Israel's true independence from US meddling, and to Israel's development of its own military industry. Most of that aid goes back to the US as purchases of US products.
27. perhaps Israel should reassess its own policies...
Brian ,   Cincinnati, USA   (07.06.10)
An interesting article. I don't agree with it, but interesting nonetheless. Regardless who is president, it would behoove all nations to understand that empires (and also countries) have a finite lifetime. Thus, in the case of present day Israel, wisdom and history would dictate that eventually, the US will no longer be an ally, or as great of an ally. This leaves a few choices for Israel two of which are- 1. accepting worldwide isolation and continue the status quo; 2. changing policies to either keep the US as an ally or to improve relations with other nations. Understanding that the modern world is interconnected (economically, militarily) it would be in Israel's best interests not to become a 1990s South Africa, or a North Korea. If this means policy changes, and even concessions, then it would seem to be in the county's best interests. Short term follies (i.e. the settler movement) which focus on short term gains instead of the long term existence of the country should be checked. My only disagreement with this article (like so many of the opinion pieces here) is a blatant open attack on President Obama. No discussion takes place about why Obama might ask for something from Israel. As much as it would be nice, Israel is not the #1 priority of Americans. And it shouldn't be, just as America is not the #1 priority for Israelis. Israel is a special country- there is no doubting that- however if it wants its neighbors to play by the rules, Israel too must accept International norms. I am not advocating any policy (as I am not an Israeli resident/citizen it would not be my place), but I will conclude with a brief thought on the current situation. The status quo cannot stand- Israel's image as an occupier and oppressor will only lead to further isolation and/or violence. The two state solution, though possible, seems to face as much resistance in Israel as in the Palestinian territories. If Israel is unwilling to give up land in Judea and Samaria, then the two state solution is destined to fail. If the two state solution fails to materialize, then we are left with a one state option. This one state will either have to accept Palestinians as equal citizens, or this Israel will continue down its current path of racism, double standards, and international refutation. I personally believe that peace with Israel's neighbors is more of a existential concern than appeasing an ignorant and racist segment of Israeli society, whose actions seem to undermine the state.
28. #22 "There are no other options" Say what?
maniaco ,   SoCal, USA   (07.06.10)
Current "Option" is working just fine, thank you. Simply continue to shine U.S.Pres. Schmendrick. Form "Blue Ribbon Commissions" and hold "High Level Meetings" to "study the options," none simultaneously. Make sure Nov. 2 comes and goes. On the 3 Nov., B.Hussein Obama officially becomes a lame duck. So far, it's working beautifully. Politely grin & ignore the fool in the White House. Just remember, the USA loves you, baby -- overwhelmingly!
29. NOT ONLY OBAMA IS A JERK HERE -
Arn. ,   SWEDEN.   (07.06.10)
Obama presses the State of Israel to freeze all construction in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem, and to accept dictates that will lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state in the heart of the country. In exchange he will be willing to provide us with guarantees on safeguarding our security and our technological advantage, and on demilitarizing the Palestinian state. Yet why should anyone in Israel be willing to assume existential risks while relying on the pledge of US president who betrayed and denied all the pledges made by his predecessors, while also forgetting his own explicit commitments? - THE ISREALI PM IS THE SAME REGARDING THIS MATTER !!!. Arn.
30. Stall.
Dan the Jafa ,   Auckland, Aotearoa   (07.07.10)
Americans are not Turkeys. Most of them have the heart in the right place. They voted in a buffoon into the White House because they needed a lesson in hope'n'change, but now they've got enough, even for a slow learner. Democ rats are on their way out. Don't do anything stupid, just keep things static. When Obama will ask why you are not jumping, answer "because you have not told us exactly how high, master". Make no mistake, after playing golf instead of focusing on Chernobyl in Mexican Gulf, Obama is damaged goods. Build your policy on that. Good luck Israel!
