omar ,   gaza   (07.08.10)
what if hamas continues hiding shalit for another 1000 days, well, there will not be anyone to be released, and shalit still in captive, thats what the writer want, he dont want shalit to be released !
2. what does hamas really want?
Duchess   (07.08.10)
Hamas ousted Fatah forces from Gaza in a bloody coup, throwing Fatah members off the roofs of buildings after shooting them in the knees. At least one Fatah member was sliced into steaks that were sent to his family. Since Gaza had been totally evacuated by Israel in the unilateral disengagement of 2005, Hamas currently (2009) rules Gaza as a de facto state government. It has used Gaza as a base for launching rocket attacks against Israel. The principles of the Hamas are stated in their Covenant or Charter, given in full below. Following are highlights. "Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it." (The Martyr, Imam Hassan al-Banna, of blessed memory). "The Islamic Resistance Movement believes that the land of Palestine is an Islamic Waqf consecrated for future Muslim generations until Judgement Day. It, or any part of it, should not be squandered: it, or any part of it, should not be given up. " "There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors." Sheik Yunus al-Astal, a Hamas legislator and imam, in a column in the weekly newspaper Al Risalah in 2008 discussed a Koranic verse suggesting that "suffering by fire is the Jews' destiny in this world and the next." Astal concluded "Therefore we are sure that the Holocaust is still to come upon the Jews.Ref IHT 1 April 08 "We will not rest until we destroy the Zionist entity" stated Hamas leader Fathi Hammad in Gaza on Friday January 2nd 2009 - ref -- BBC 2 January 09 In a sermon aired on Hamas' Al-Aqsa television, cleric Yunis Al Astal stated, "Today, Rome is the capital of the Catholics, or the Crusader capital, which has declared its hostility to Islam, and has planted the brothers of apes and pigs in Palestine in order to prevent the reawakening of Islam.
3. stop negotiating with Hamas period
Golan ,   Modiin   (07.08.10)
the solider Schalit is the result of not answering to Hamas rocket attacks from gaza. Had Israel gone to war in 2006 (as rockets were shot at Israel on a daily basis... not an exaggeration) the sleeping tank solder and two others would not have been victims of Hamas (although they might have fallen in battle.) And Israel would not be torn about such an emotional issue. Freeing Schalit at any price will only make the future more bleak. We should not negotiate with terrorists and the pressure to release the (now) sergeant should be only for a military oppression.
4. Where is the story about the abduction yesterday???
m   (07.08.10)
Arab dressed as a yeshiva boy tried to abduct a mother and baby, but maybe because they are "settlers" it's not news for Ynet.
5. Omar, I hope that sooner than later Israel
Vardina   (07.08.10)
will come to her senses and execute those terrorist to the last.
6. Falk forget step 4) Total blackout on Hamas prisoners
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (07.08.10)
The easiest step to shift the balance of nastiness is for Israel to immediately impose the same conditions on Hamas prisoners as Gilad Shalit gets. This means an immediate total blackout on all Hamas and Islamic Jihad prisoners: -no visits -no letters -no calls -24 hours/day in their cells And, of course, this should be done one day after all these prisoners are moved to new, secret locations. Let the Palestinian families sit in the dark, and let them protest to Haniya and his fellow Iranian funded stooges. Of course this is against international law. The international community doesn't care, since they've allowed Hamas to do the exact same thing for the past 4 years. If they do indeed care, then let them force Hamas to allow the Red Cross to visit Shalit - the moment that happens we'll let the Red Cross visit a Hamas prisoner. If they allow a 2nd visit to Shalit, we'll let the Red Cross visit 2 Hamas prisoners. Stop playing by rules that do not work. If the world is letting Hamas get away with cheating and breaking international laws, then we'll play by the same rules as Hamas. And yes, this may also mean proportionate response that for each kassam rocket fired at Israeli civilians, we lob a howitzer shell into Jabalya or Gaza City. The international community demands "proportionate response", so why don't we give it to them?
7. Ban Nego Now
Keith ,   Texas, USA   (07.08.10)
Saying "one Gilad is released" is like a drunk saying he will quit after one last drink. It's BS.
8. #1 Omar - Brilliant
Seth Greenberg ,   Raanana, Israel   (07.08.10)
Currently, the families of terror prisoners are pressuring the Israeli governemnt to release their sons in exchange for Shalit. When the Israeli governement releases the list of names of terrorist who will be removed from the deal in the order in which they wil be removed, these families will know exactly how long they have to fight for the release of their own sons. But then, they will want Hamas to make the deal faster, not Israel. Smart. On the other hand, since Hamas has nothing to gain by releasing Shalit, any negotiation will fail - short of all the Jews abandoning their homeland and changing the name to Falistin. Not going to happen.
9. Dear writer .. it's easy to talk .. i can prove in mathes :)
Jalal ,   Gaza   (07.08.10)
first of all in this case i'm sorry to tell u that u have to play according to hamas rules the equation donnt need to be more complicated without prisoners there is no soldier that\s hamas equation that's it u try to find another solution ?? that's smart sir ... how long it takes u to find solution ?? 4 years ... smart how long u need to apply that solution ?? another 6 months .... so smart and then the probability to have a good results is about 50% ..... super sir if that way u thinking about mr shalit then i'm really sympathized with his family
10. Change the Shalit Equation
Avi Joshua ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (07.08.10)
Well done Will the politicians listen?
11. FOOL AND IDIOT !!!.
Arn. ,   SWEDEN.   (07.08.10)
TERRORISTS WITH BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS, SHOULD BE SENTENSED TO DEATH, AND THAT WILL SOLVE ALL PROBLEMS REGARDING THEM. AND HOSTAGETAKING. THOUG IN POINT 2 YOU HAVE SOMETHING REGARDING HAMAS - The survival of their regime and their personal safety. Israel is fully justified to target the Hamas leadership responsible for Gilad’s captivity and should exercise that right. -AND IN POINT 3 AS WELL - 3) On a strategic level, once Gilad is released and with an eye to the future, Israel should ban negotiations with terrorists. Arn.
12. "Terrorists"
Doug ,   Rochester, USA   (07.08.10)
1. Hamas is only asking for 400-some prisoners. The rest have been added by Israel, so that more than just Hamas prisoners will be released. 2. None or almost none of the 400+ have been convicted of any crime by a civilian court, so call them detainees or prisoners or kidnap victims, not terrorists. 3. Israel can remove a name every day if it wants. And Hamas can add a new name every day if it wants. But this will only bring the two sides further apart. Hamas is not stupid. 4. Regarding assasinating Hamas leaders, Israel already does this whenever they have a chance. 5. What is really important to Hamas is freedom for Pals. No blockade, no occupation, no controlling their airspace or their coastline, no bombing their homeland.
13. To Jalal
Akh Nhavu ,   Israel   (07.08.10)
First of all, It's a relief to see that you in Gaza sympathise with his Family, as the rest of us In Israel do- he is the child and brother of all of us. I hope you are not alone with your feelings about this In Gaza I also sympathise with you that your leaders are terrorists, and it's actually you that has to " play according to Hamas rules, and not us- here is Israel, or in any other country where we have free will, and freedom of expression. 4 years is a long time, and I do pray for a solution sooner than later Letting terrorists to go free presents many new complications, they cost us dearly in so many ways wether they are free in palestine to plan thier next attack, or if they live in Luxury in Israeli jails. Gilad is still more valuable to us in even more ways.We will bring him home, and we will gain more strength. I wish you Peace, and a life free of Hamas.
14. Doug #12 you are full of shit
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.08.10)
Every single one of those terrorists have been convicted of crimes. The only issue is the fact that they haven't been charged with their real crimes - genocide. What we need to do is to truly blockade Gaza. No food, no water, no power, no fuel, no medical care, no nothing at all. That should our first step. Second step - start bombing every single Hams building until there are no more buildings to bomb.
15. stop all peace talks with PA until Gilad released
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (07.09.10)
then world will pressure Hamas and the PA to release Gilad it is as simple as that
16. Did Netanyahu raise Shalit and Pollard issues in visit?
Isareli   (07.09.10)
17. #14 - You are full of shit and propose Genocide
Doug ,   Rochester, USA   (07.09.10)
I stand by my earlier remarks. None or almost none of the 400+ have been convicted of a crime by a civilian court. Many have been tried in military courts by illegal occupiers, where they did not have any rights. Some have never even been tried in a military court but are under administrative detention. (An IDF term for kidnapping.) You have the nerve to suggest they should be charged with genocide, then in your next two paragraphs you propose stopping all food and water from going into Gaza and bombing each and every building in Gaza. What you are proposing is genocide. What they are doing is merely resisting the illegal occupation of their land, airspace, waters.
18. 17#the US belongs to the Red Indians
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (07.09.10)
so can you go back to Europe from where you come as you are illegally occupying the US and your forbears ethnically cleansed the indigenous population of North America
19. many suggestions
nora ,   gaza   (07.09.10)
as if the problem is shalit .. to his family it is the problem becouse he has only one mother and one father sure he is a victim in a wide old complicated problem it is israil palastinians conflict .the release of shalite with or without release of palastinian prisoners will not end the conflict ... hamass will search for other way like flutilla is another step .. so to me it is not terrorists and kidnaping soldier .. it is the conflict which israil run away from it or push it further with more complications and more victim ... there is some problem become easy with the time but this conflict became more and more complicated by the time .. if iam the mother of shalit and i know if my son would be in prison for ever with an effect to the problem to israil to be secure for ever to end the war between israil and its noughbors i will agree but sure the son was hurted and still without any advansing in solving of the israil problem .its future its security but sure it is not its existance .. where israil to go !!!and where the palastinians to go it is the life of evry one her on this land .. it is not shalit lfe to be spended in a prison for nothing
20. Passive and/or Active Policy?
Pasifist   (07.11.10)
The recommended steps are all pasive in-action. "What not to do". But are their 'active' steps that Israel should do?
