There is a very clear distinction between racism and sensible laws which determine who has the right to settle in Israel. The one should not be confused with the other, even if, inevitably a few opponents are motivated by racist sentiments. If a distinction isn't drawn very soon then Israel will end up with an open door immigration policy which would be both unwise and destructive. Today's 100,000 refugees (or whatever the realistic estimate is) will be tomorrow 1 million. The Issue is labor. Until the government and labor unions (not the histadrut) begin protecting workers, the Israeli employer will, sadly, chose cheap workers he can abuse. Raise minimum wage, give tax benefits for retaining workers and penalties for rapid turn over. Democratic, elected and run Unions are desperately needed here.
