1. Excellent article, Dana Golan
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor, UK   (07.08.10)
The truth will come out eventually. Better to face up to it now and establish an independent enquiry.
2. Goldston deserves an apology, thats for sure.
Dave ,   US   (07.08.10)
3. Who Cares?
Ephraim ,   USA   (07.08.10)
Hey, man, it's war. Stuff happens. Don't want to die? Then don't attempt to slaughter your non-Muslim neighbors. Let's see Hamas conducted an internal investigation into the shocking accusation that their suicide bombers deliberately target civilians.
4. Shame!!!
Ricardo Macher ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (07.08.10)
Dana Golan and Beaking the Silence should be kicked out of Israel!!! Shame on Ynet for giving this enemy of Israel the opportunity to spread her poison!!! Anybody knows where the funding for Breaking the Silence comes from?
5. Hamas launched rockets....
John ,   Be'er Sheva,Israel   (07.08.10)
Hamas launched rockets for 8 years on tens of thousands - and eventually hundreds of thousands - of civilians, and yet a few cases of soldiers, deep in enemy territory, using Gazan civilians as human shields to save their lives, is what is making news?!
6. We shouldn't believe you actually!
Gilad ,   London UK   (07.08.10)
Breaking the silence has released nonsense and more nonsense over the months. Things that could not be verified, information that was insufficient to be checked, information that was dismissed by others involved in those same operations. There are many reasons to not believe you actually! The fact that the army has found a couple of (SUSPECTED) crimes is hardly representative that something was extremely widespread as was claimed. Therefore this article serves no purpose! It's pointless! You are trying to justify the lies and unverifiable evidence by blacked out people who you claimed to be soldiers that smeared Israel internationally! Shameful! That is a far cry from the army legitimately investigating and finding out that there were breaches (some very serious, but still few in number). Do not try to confuse what you did with what was found, they are worlds apart. You have no legitimacy, only smears, the IDF has legitimacy.
7. Will all these organisations apologise
Danny   (07.08.10)
for all the false claims they have made? After all there is exactly one serious indictment - note not convicted - and most of the claims turned out to be complete BS. Am holding my breath....
8. so Golan are you going to resign
Danny   (07.08.10)
If some just one of the claims you make turns out to be false?
9. the army is the winner, as
observer   (07.08.10)
the street Israeli should quit for believing the spokesman's lies.
10. Thanks, Ben, for your positive post. Now,
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (07.08.10)
will you also advise Hezbollah and Hamas leaders to do the same? You are, after all, in such a position to advise given your standing as a physician in Gaza. But I doubt it.
11. Will army apologize for lies?
tinashkuli   (07.08.10)
Sure Dana, right after you apologize for every one of your lies.
12. Dana Golan
Thomas Philip ,   Israel   (07.08.10)
I find it disturbing that many Israeli journalists and academics take it upon themselves to be holier than holy, and castigate as a matter of form, our msot respected institutions, like Zahal. This woman uses the words Justice and Truth as thugh they were the absolute values and not in the context of a war in which soldiers paid in their blood and limb. Sometimes, it is better to be wise and not to be just, when lives are at stake. So easy for her to spout these rightous words, when she was not in the midst of the deadly danger. How would she feel if her son or daughter were blown up by those Palestinian missiles. Would she feel just as righteous and just?
13. Dana, 99% of the stuff said was rubbish.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (07.08.10)
This one case being considered, and a possibly a few others, are the scant few that *were* true, and will be investigated to the full extent of military law. Let me be blunt, though. You and your friends *did* spread made-up stuff, hearsay, unsubstantiated claims without evidence or actual credible witnesses. Both the IDF and the majority of the Israeli public dismissed it out of hand because there was simply too many unsubstantiated claims, too much propaganda, too much of it the same spiel. Perhaps if only the real, credible acts would have been brought up, things would have been investigated thoroughly earlier. Instead, you helped bury the truth in a pile of disinformation. Congratulations, you have been your own worst enemy, if you truly believe in your cause of preventing actual war-crimes.
14. "Breaking the Silence" leaders owe us an apology
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (07.08.10)
Face it, these people have more in common with the academics who want a world-wide boycott of anything Israeli. These are not your run-of-the-mill Israeli taxpayer, but knee-jerk apologists for Palestinian terrorism. Were any of the people in the "Breaking the Silence" organization involved in any type of action at all, of any kind, demanding that Palestinian terror groups stop attacking Israeli civilians? My guess is that the answer is a definite No. Do any of these "Breaking the Silence" people want any Palestinians put on trial for war crimes against their fellow Israeli citizens? Again, my educated guess is No. Did any of Dana Golan's colleagues do anything to stop the years of war crimes against Israel? No. Dana Golan's organization popped up after Israel was forced to finally take action against Palestinian war criminals. Yes, war criminals. Amnesty Intl and Human Rights Watch both came out with reports BEFORE operation Cast Lead concluding that the Palestinians had committed war crimes. Did Dana Golan say anything? Well, I couldn't find anything on the internet showing that she gives a damn about Israeli human rights. Dana Golan and her phony organization owe all of us an apology. If she is in any way part of "civil society" then she should have been taking a lot of action before Cast Lead - action against the Palestinians. Feh, as my bubbie would say.
15. what garbage. when will the left apologize for all its error
ralph   (07.08.10)
over then past 100 yrs. the left has waked off a cliff and wants to take western civilization down with it.
16. lies
rob ,   Jer   (07.08.10)
Stop being a fool and start to love your people.
17. when will the arabs apologize?
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (07.09.10)
The Arabs are masters of the lie. Instead of apologizing, they merely tell another lie. Let us learn to lie like them and in the mean time let's just lie low.
18. Breaking the Silence is PA terror front group
Ilan ,   Ariel   (07.09.10)
The IDF still has much more credibility than these pro-terror funded front groups masquerading as human rights activists.
19. Article
Marilyn ,   USA   (07.09.10)
In the US, we get lied to a lot about military dealings. The politicians know that we'll get upset, so they hide things. We eventually we do find out, however by then sometimes it's hard to trace who exactly was responsible. Maybe it's the same with Israel?
20. Israel IS STILL the most ethical army in the world.
David ,   Hartford USA   (07.09.10)
Arabs kill their own with total disregard for life. Arabs dip their hands in the blood of lynched Israeli soldiers. Arabs bargain for their captured terrorist-soldiers with the corpses of Israeli soldiers. Did America and Britain get verbally assaulted by the world when they FLATTENED Dresden and other German cities burning and crushing to death hundreds of thousands of civilians? NOPE! Does Israel get castrated by the world when a few soldiers crack for a few moments and kill innocent people? OF COURSE! Remember that every house was booby-trapped and Hamas psychopaths were around every corner, hiding in every mosque and every hospital and school. I apologize to the family of these people. Their deaths were preventable IF ONLY THE RESIDENTS OF GAZA TOLD HAMAS TO STOP LAUNCHING ROCKETS AT ISRAEL. But they never did. Jewish deaths are acceptable but Arab deaths never are. Enough of this double standard. Civilian deaths are bad in any event. But in a war instigated by Hamas, Israel behave better than any other army in the world. The soldiers cracked and need to serve some time, but don't dare accuse Israel of war crimes unless all the other bloodlettings around the globe are also brought into focus. Then we can truly compare how well Israeli soldiers acted. One only needs to look at Darfur to know that Israeli soldiers acted like Mother Teresa compared to the soldiers of the insane regime in power. Shame on those accusing the IDF when there are so many examples of truly horrendus and revolting atrocities perpetrated by other armies of the world. Now why, with all these other examples that are magnitudes worse, would these people pick out little Israel? You and I both know the answer. The oldest hatred is alive and well.
21. Here we go
ynet again   (07.09.10)
Ynet doing what it loves most. Paying traitors to undermine our country and our values. Actually shrieking weakness and betrayal.. Not to mention stupidity. All mixed together wth desperate hysteria. Keep trying, clutching at straws, you sad guys and dolls.
22. Pure ynet happiness
sameach b ynet   (07.09.10)
they love it
23. #19. except Israel is under far far more scrutiny
Danny   (07.09.10)
If an Israeli soldier gives some sweets to a Palestinian it gets reported. If a Palestinian is asked to play his violin for a second at a checkpoint in the middle of a massive suicide bombing campaign it is international news. The chances that any actual "war crimes" are hidden is exactly zero.
24. Mr Golan ...how ironic a name
moshe ,   Tivon   (07.09.10)
" Dana Golan " ! what an ironic name. 1. Has Mr. Golan ever established credentials as a fair critic of the IDF ? 2. Has Mr. Golan ever made a murmur about the thousands of UNguided harassment ham rockets that have been fired at Israeli civilians ? 3. Has Mr. Golan a fervor to cure IDF transgressions, and errors, BUT doesn't give a $#it about the pal provocation ? moshe
25. #4 Shame
P.S.   (07.09.10)
Ricardo, the funding comes from The New Israel Fund, the so called Human Rights organization which donates to Arab causes hostile to Israel and they funded the Goldstone report and anything which delitgimizes Israel whenever they can They need to be investigated and stopped. The Kenesset looked at doing something about them but dropped it Remember the episode with Naomi Chazan? Look up the NGO web side with Gerald Steinberg etc,
26. to 6
nora   (07.09.10)
it is better to be silent than to say lies ... and the best to speake if you see lies ... i understand this article in that way .. but to me if the soldiers who kille innoscents have no punishment it will lead to more and more killing .even if they are small noumbers of the idf // .. here in israil evry now and then there are some arabs be killed becouse they are arab only becouse there is no punishment to previose killers .. they are about ten or fifteen but sure there is till now and there is no punishment .. so it is not about the manners or values of the armays it is about silence and lies and the life of one man or woman or ten or twenty
27. for jews SECURITY .. lies is justified >> israel black ages
Jalal ,   Gaza   (07.10.10)
28. Breaking the silence was in the pay of EU and nif
arthur glatman ,   United States   (07.10.10)
it is hard to respect people and organizations who receive foreign money to denounce their own country
29. Thank you Breaking the SIlence!
world citizen ,   Israel   (07.10.10)
The talkbacks here speak for itself that there was never a bigger need for organizations like Breaking the silence. The people there served Israel for a great deal in often horrible and dangerous circumstances, and still find the power to speak up for morality and justice. It's BECAUSE they believe in their country that they step up and show the courage to voice criticism against israeli policy. I truly hope that they will keep finding this courage, because without them, Israel as a democracy is at its last days...
30. It's easy...
Edu ,   K. Iam   (07.10.10)
to talk behind a microphone or a computer. The arcaic leftwings must know that war is war. Hamas has clear this matter. Do you remember that they want us sinking in tne mediterranean sea? I have a candy for you.
