1. Rabbi Amital- Pioneer and traitor
Yaakov ,   Jerusalem   (07.09.10)
The Rabbi was a walking contradiction. On one hand he was a unifier and an innovative thinker that ultra-orthodox should also serve in the army to protect its citizens-some most modern national religous do. On the other hand, his founding of the Meimad faction was seditious and any apeasement philosphy that he conveyed to young impressionable minds is dammaging. Meimad advocates appeasement instead of self-defense and assertion of inalienable rights of the indigenous people to the land of Israel. It is good that he had a full life but also good that the spiritual leader for this mistaken movement has proceeded us.
2. Sad
David ,   Haifa   (07.09.10)
Isn't it sad and ironic that, while we mourn a great figure in modern religious Judaism who has parted from us, in the weeks that lead us to Tish'a Be'Av, someone like Yaacov, with his hateful comment on the death of rabbi Amital, reminds us of what destroyed the Second Temple: sin'at heynam?
3. Antithesis of R. Cook
Moshe ,   Jerusalem Israel   (07.09.10)
The Har Etzion yeshiva is affiliated with a political and religious viewpoint that is an antithesis to the doctrine of Rabbi Abraham Yitzhak Cook, which most religious Zionists follow Nonsense - the antithesis is not to R. Avraham Cook's philosophy, but rather to his son's R. Tzvi Yehuda Cook.
4. YNET didnt mention
david ,   New York, USA   (07.09.10)

6. Rabbis dont' now or ever have united our people

7. the mashiaj
cristian ,   arg   (07.10.10)
the word gospel derives from good spell meaning good tidings it is a calque(word for word translation) of the greek word euangelion eu-good angelion-message the greek word euangelion is also the source of the term evangelist the gospels represent mashiaj as an exorcist and healer who preached in parables about the coming kingdom,he preached first in galilee and later in zion where he cleansed the temple in mark apparently written with a roman audience in mind mashiaj is a heroic man of action given to powerful emotions including agony in matisyahu apparently written for a jewish audience mashiaj is repeatedly called out as the fulfillment of hebrew prophecy,in luke apparently written for gentiles mashiaj is especially concerned with the poor luke emphasizes the importance of prayer and the action of the holy spirit in mashiaj´s life and in the messianic community, mashiaj appears as a stoic supernatural being unmoved even by his own cruxifixion like matisyahu luke insists that salvation offered by mashiaj is for all jews and gentiles and the gospel of yohanan represents mashiaj as an incarnation of the eternal word who talked extensively about the holy spirit

Rav Amital was a man of courageous and unique political views who still never lost his deep respect for others who disagreed. The proof to this can be seen in the fact that he appointed a student of his to succeed him as Rosh Yeshiva of Har Etzion who is right-leaning and antithetical to many of Rav Amital's viewpoints. His unlimited love and respect for you, regardless of your political leanings, made him truly unique and I only hope you can learn from his shining example. No matter what our politics, we were privileged to have Rav Amital as a living example of ahavat chinam and achdus in klal yisrael. May his memory lead us to our ultimate redemption, to a world of profound respect for the other, regardless of political affiliation.
9. To Yaakov
proud Meimad voter ,   Givat Shmuel   (07.11.10)
I don't want to turn this into a political flame war but Ya'akov, I worry about the rigidity of your rhetoric. Rav Amital zt'l didn't force people like me to support his ideas, these are ideas that have value and are convincing on their own. Is it coercion when any other religious figures who is right wing speaks about politics? If Meimad is seditious, then what about everyone from the left to the right who sees issues in their complexity? Are we all traitors because we disagree with you? I will be here following in his path and evidently having to people like why Ya'akov why there is more to the left than 'appeasement' and why escalating violence, maybe, just maybe isn't always in the best strategic interest of the State of Israel and the Jewish people. I also suggest reading Rav Amital's writings-as a soldier and Rosh Yeshiva who lost many of his student, he was not a born pacifist but came to his political conclusions gradually and thoughtfully.
10. ynet story doesnt make sense
Eddie ,   london UK   (07.13.10)
if he was born in 1924 and made aliyah aged 16, that would be 1940. Does that mean he went back to Hungary to be incarcerated in 1944?
