1. wrong angle
peter ,   amsterdam NL   (07.09.10)
I think, Sima Kadmon, that you miss something obvious: why do these young recruits have to patrol in Hebron. That they dance in the streets is fine, but everybody should be able to do that, Jew & Arab. It's a shame soldiers have to waste years of their live guarding people in the West Bank. That's not what an army is for.
2. A Wonderful Thing
Robert ,   USA   (07.09.10)
I totally agree. This video that has gone "viral" on the internet is a wonderful PR win for Israel. So spontaneous and genuine... and human, even humane. I have sent and shown it to many of my friends and we always laugh or smile and come away feeling better. Thanks guys for showing us who have love for Israel, the love OF Israel.
3. :: Good PR?
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (07.09.10)
Somehow Sima Kadmon thinks that 6 IDF soldiers (some of whom may have killed, maimed or abused Palestinians) performing a brief jig in the occupied Palestinian town of Hebron is ‘good PR’. Somehow Kadmon thinks that this brief ‘performance’ will negate the fact that the Palestinian town of Hebron is held hostage because of a few illegal violent religious settlers. If Kadmon wants ‘good PR’ release the Palestinian people from bondage.
4. peter @ 1, get it right, blame it on arab hate.
leo ,   usa   (07.09.10)
5. fine.. EXCEPT
Gilad ,   London UK   (07.09.10)
I read (perhaps it was wrong?) that this was filmed at like.. 5am, and we can hear call to prayer in the background. This is hardly appropriate or respectful. Had this been in the middle of the afternoon, when nothing was happening, fair enough (although noise disturbance is still not ok if the locals don't approve!)... but if the first part I wrote was accurate, then that part was not cool.
6. the fantastic 6 were awesome!
Golan ,   modiin   (07.09.10)
our soldiers are wonderful people. They are caring and have to protect us with one hand tied behind their backs thanks to our ridged and sometimes self-destructive morals. And yet they have the energy to entertain the Hebron community that they protect, both Arab and Jew. Kol Hakavod hevre!
7. Matty's "may haves"
Golan ,   modiin   (07.09.10)
yes Matty these soldiers "may have" abused a terrorist captured after a repeat attempt at murdering another Jewish baby like Shalhevet Pass. Yes they "may have" also came from outer-space. They may have been Druze of Muslim IDF soldiers. They "may have" also been trying out for the Muhammad dance contest to be conducted in the month of Ramadan. But maybe you really wish the Israelis were committing genocide so you can have something against them. But then again why just wish? Other activists simply lie. They too "may have" good intentions but I doubt it.

Ashirah Dror ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.09.10)
Great Op-Ed! I could not agree more! The morning I first saw the YouTube clip of these six soldiers dancing in Hevron, not only did I laugh and replay the clip several times, I danced with them! Yasher Koach to these young men for showing their youth and their humanity.
9. #3 Palestinian town???
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (07.09.10)
Do you know why Hebron is a so-called Pal town? Jews always lived there until 1929 when they were massacred and the few survivors had to run for their lives. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1929_Hebron_massacre
10. loved it. it was great. shows israeli soldiers are human too

12. Israeli insanity
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (07.09.10)
Who in the world would think that this video places Israelis in a good light? Six Israeli soldiers, heavily armed, dance in a deserted main street? Where are the palestinians? Absent for fear of being shot? I think the video shows the utter callousness of the troops occupying Hebron, nothing more. And if you think this is good PR, then you are truly mentally ill.
13. #3, a few questions for Matty Groves

15. Mikesailor @ 12, you can keep your mind at ease. At 5:30 in
leo ,   usa   (07.09.10)
the morning most of Hebronians were in bed, Arab and Jew alike. But none the less, your concern is greatly appreciated.
16. Matty, your are at it again...
Golani ,   Vineland, USA   (07.09.10)
Israel did not ask to be put in the position of patrolling the streets in Arab areas, The terrorists who have been attacking Jews, Israelis and civillian visitors for almost a hundred years are the root of the problem. Remember, Israel has left much of the West Bank and all of Gaza. Leaving Gaza has caused rocket attacks instead of bringing peace. The blockade is only the result of the rocket attacks. There is no bondage. You could even say that the Israelis are being held hostage by terror. Again, you got it wrong.
17. Natives locked out of their own street
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (07.09.10)
Funny pictures of Jews dancing on the Arab street that the Arabs cannot use themselves. Reminds me of the funny pictures of Abu Ghraib prison.
18. all residents should join them...
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (07.09.10)
It is absolutely wonderful. Hope everybody in hebron/al-khalil, jews and arabs join the soldiers and dance in the streets. (leave weapons at home though)
19. Why did I cry when I saw these young men...
KO ,   UK   (07.09.10)
.... just being light-hearted young men in a constantly dangerous situation and with most of the world against both them and their country? I suppose it was something to do with Hope....HaTikvah. Israel will live forever.

23. Steve Benassi @ 17, Arabs are not native to Israel and
leo ,   usa   (07.10.10)
to the rest of Judea. Arabs are not native to the rest of the Middle East. Arabs are not native to North Africa. The only place Arabs are native to is Arabian peninsula. Everywhere else Arabs are occupiers and/or squatters.
24. Rami of Nazareth @ 18, Can you be trusted for
leo ,   usa   (07.10.10)
Israelis to "(leave weapons at home)"?

26. Dance has a powerful message for Israel haters
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (07.10.10)
Dance is an international language and contained in the soldiers' dance is a powerful message: It shows the world 1. that Israeli soldiers are like young people anywhere in the world 2. that in the past two months, not only did Israel not surrender to the delegitimization campaign directed against the Jewish State, they are stronger and more unified than ever. In summary, the dance demonstrates strength, unity, and "am Yisrael chai." Kol hakavod to these young men.
27. lets be clear those who deny distort history are anti-semite
ralph   (07.10.10)
28. @3, @5, @12,
Palhod 50 ,   Israel   (07.10.10)
@3 - These are guys I served with, and your attitude is beyond revile when you picture every soldier as someone who has "killed, maimed or abused". @5 - As I previously said, the prayer call was edited in after the video was shot just like the music; it was meant to give the video a more "Hebron" feeling. @12 - The street is mostly deserted because it is in the early morning. Near the end of the video you can see several Palestinians coming down the street. @17 - Idiot like you make my day. Maybe actually educate yourself before you talk nonsense. The street in the video is actually only open to Palestinians and closed to Jews.
29. The video was enjoyable and funny but
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (07.10.10)
I was left with something less than palatable: Jewish soldiers patrolling Hebron. As long as we are there, uninvited, we will be considered "colonialists" or "occupiers". The video reminds me that we need to get out and allow the Palestinians to establish a state with contiguous borders. As long as our military presence is witnessed and felt, we will continue to be hated. There would be many possible advantages to a two-state solution bordering one another. Now which statesmen on both sides are capable of completing the task? We need miracle workers.
30. :: Golani - #16
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (07.10.10)
Hmmm. Do you think this had anything to do with the fact that approx 750,000 Palestinians were driven from their homes in 1948 and never allowed to return? Really? Well according to latest stats the illegal Israeli settlers (who keep attacking Palestinians and destroying their farmland) control approx 40% of the WB and this figure is *growing* each year. How can you say that Israel has left much of the WB when each year illegal Israeli settlers gain more control? If Israel ‘left Gaza’ then why has Israel always (since the late 60’s) retained control over Gaza’s airspace and coastal waters as well as control over all imports and exports? How does banning the imports of basic food items, clothes, shoes, paper, children’s toys etc prevent Hamas or other militant groups in Gaza from firing rockets? If there is no bondage then why does Israel refuse the Palestinians basic human right of self-government and to establish their own independent state?
