I share your concern for the persecuted or famished non-Jewish people of the world. But now we have the blessed United Nations. They, through their UNHCR, their Refugee Agency, can gather them, feed them, take care of them, and relocate them in another country that suits their cultural and religious needs. This applies to any non-Jew - except Arabs who fled Israel and who are still rotting in refugee camps all over the Arab world, thanks to the very same blessed United Nations.

You're right on the mark that the root cause is economic and the most effective remedy begins with businesses who hire them and addressing economic remedies. Unions have developed into hindrances to every remedy in the US--and would here as well. But I think you're also right that an enforced minimum wage, along with attention-getting fines for hiring illegals, would be very helpful. On the flip side, at peril of being attacked yet again (as if I couldn't weather another storm), I'd like to see these illegals afforded an opportunity, if they wish, to learn Torah and convert. Anyone in the world who wishes to learn and keep Torah can do so. Those who make that choice, IMO, should be afforded the opportunity to convert and then live here legally. I know someone who has been teaching them basic Hebrew and the impression I've gotten from discussions is that these are simple people with no fervent religious commitments of any kind, Muslim or otherwise. Their religion--and most were Christian--was simply the culture and society in which they lived. Their motivation is simply surviving, not crusading for Christianity, Islam or any other religion. what troubles me about these illegals is the lies that their Leftist supporters are employing in their "defense". For starters, they claim that these people are refugess, which they are NOT. They claim that only 1800 illegal children is a small number that we can aborb- they fail to mention that these kids have illegal parents, who if allowed to stay, can invoke international laws to allow them to bring their entire extended families to israel, which is exactly how they swelled their numbers in Western Europe. These supporters of illegal immigration dare to make comparisons to jewish attempts of immigration before, during, and after the Holocaust, but fail to mention that the British mandate and Balfour were made to create a refuge for Jews in Israel which the British later reneged on because of Arab pressure. Finally, these Leftists claim that anyone against illegal immigration is a racist. Well, I am no racist or bigot, I believe Israel is a Jewish state and should not be forced to take in unwanted illegal immigrants fleeing from economic troubles. Australia, Italy, Spain, France, and the UK maintain interim camps for illegal boat migrating immigrants, which is far more inhumane than anything Israel has done. On the contrary, Israel allows these illegals to settle in the heart of its cities and gives access to its medical and educational system.
