1. baaaaaa they both socialists
ghostq   (07.11.10)
but Israel left socialism behind because in real life people actually need to work to get somewhere and not relay in gov funds, Ben gurion was a man of vision, the only vision nobama have is to turn USA from capitalist to socialist and to kiss up to Arabs oil countries but behind his words lay nothing. not even percistant policy, people will wake to really bad hangover after his power intoxication, and it won't be preaty sight.
2. Well written - but our leaders are no Ben-Gurion
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & New York   (07.11.10)
No leader of the Jewish people in the last 20 years has been a Ben-Gurion. Most do not have a plan beyond staying in office as long as possible.
3. As Obama said:
Ruth ,   New York   (07.11.10)
I am first son of my Father (Muslim) and then Black African". Ben Gurion was a Jew.
4. Jerusalem
Yonatan ,   Jerusalem   (07.11.10)
We are in a fight, with a so called ally. We should cut them off, and use our nukes to keep Jerusalem. It is the heart of our nation, and even though we might not all be religious, its not a religious issue its an issue of not being kicked around, and its an issue of proclaiming our history and our rights. We must fight who ever would have Israel be America's little dog. I would rather live in a poor country with dignity than a rich country that is no more than a whore to the US/UN/EU interests.
5. Ben Gurion, a real 'leader.
tiki ,   belgium   (07.11.10)
Defense minister Barak should learn from the founding father of HIS party how to talk, behave, be strong and DEFEND his country and STOP talking like the FM, which is not his job. His warnings and statements about (de)legetimization if Israel doesn't follow HIS way don't help and only show the 'difference between the 'leader and the loser.
6. Bravo!
Yorgos ,   Athens, Greece   (07.11.10)
Bravo Mr. Yoram, May the government of Israel read, study and understand these words!
7. Obama and Illegals
Dan ,   Titusville, FL   (07.11.10)
Arabs or Mexicans, Obama loves illegals. It is rapidly becoming clear that for whatever reason, Obama Obama is out to destroy the supremacy of the United States and the bond between the United States and Israel. Obama has gone to court to block Arizona from enforcing laws that as Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the country, Obama will not enforce. Obama has allowed illegals, drug smugglers and most likely terrorists to stream across America's Southern border and he is doing the same by allowing illegal Arab construction in Israel's eternal undivided capitol. Next he will allow Iran to develop and do a test detonation of a nuclear weapon after which he will cower and say we must lift the sanctions before Iran wages nuclear war with the world.
8. to #7 obama doesn't give a hoot about mexicans
ghostq   (07.11.10)
he only cares for afrikan ilegal immigrants other wise he would give the latin population big benefits, which he did nothing in the field, he also doing nothing in the mexican gulf oil speal, the health programe isn't his even.
9. Jerusalem
Sarah   (07.11.10)
In the Gospels, it is told that Yeshua said: O Jerusalem, O Jerusalem. He did not say O Alquds, O Alquds. Yeshua continued: You (Jerusalem, not Alquds) will not see me again, until. How is it then that some would deny the Jews Jerusalem?
10. Obama's attitude is derived from a misconception of the...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (07.11.10)
...world, including the history of the Jewish people, tailored and promoted by people such as the Rev. J. Wright and Professor Edwar Said. Theirs' was a "narrative", a fictional story telling passed for academic research and observation. Ben-Gurion's and that of the non-violent national liberation movement of the Jewish people, Zionism, has been rooted in nearly 4,000 years of Jewish history, un-interrupted Jewish presence in Eretz Israel and the affinity of the rest of us to the Land and Jerusalem for all of these years. This affinity does not appear in the narratives of Said, Wright and Farakhan whose focus is the hate of Jews instead of the appreciation of Jewish history and civilization. These are Obama's sources...
11. Absolutely the correct view
Paul ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.11.10)
However, I would take it a step further, ALL of Israel is essential to Jews, and has absolutely no connection to Arabs, Islam or the former Christian countries. If we give back one grain of sand, it minimizes our absolute historical legitimacy to the Jewish homeland.
12. Ben-Gurion's Hellish dreams, died with him.
Salma ,   Palestine   (07.11.10)
13. History reveres LEADERS like BenGurion
BH ,   Iowa   (07.11.10)
History punishes politicians like Obama
14. BG is turning in his grave
Arie ,   BaGolan   (07.11.10)
knowing the most Antisemitic school in the MidEast is named for him
15. No to sharing Jerusalem with Arabs...
Janice Cohen ,   ירושלים   (07.11.10)
not even Abu-Dis.
16. dont play dumb... bibi, wiesel and the rest gave jerusalem
eporue ,   europe   (07.11.10)
away... the whole world would have supported you for jerusalem... first of all - obama !
17. Ettingers ideological nonsense
zionist historian ,   NY USA   (07.11.10)
BG said many things and like all zionists had a sentimental attachement to Jerusalem. He was also within weeks of the six day war prepared to return the territories and warned of occupying a whole people. I think most historians would agree that BG would not be onEttinger's side today and likely Jabotinsky who cherished a Jewish majority and a liberal political system would not be as well. As an American academic I have found Ettingers writing to be subtley racist and disgusting --an Iasraeli glen Beck!
18. Jerusalem A Sacred Jewish Trust
NormanF ,   Salida, USA   (07.12.10)
Ben Gurion said "no" to world pressure on Jerusalem at a time when Israel's circumstances were far less propitious than they are today. Jerusalem is the heart of the Jewish people's legacy. To surrender it is to tear out what has kept Jews alive over the millenia. It must not be sundered under any circumstances. No Israeli leader and no Israeli government has any authority to give away the minutest part of it. It is kept in sacred trust for all the Jewish people, the dead, the living and those yet to be born.
19. Ben Gurion was a bit complex, perhaps Obama is too
Ilan ,   Ariel   (07.12.10)
At one time Ben Gurion argued for the inclusion of what is today Jordan as part of Israel, but later reconciled to less People change with circumstances and in Ben Gurions case also mellow and moderate views with age. They also abandon ideas for purely operational reasons. We take figures like Rabin and overlook his bribery to pass Oslo so that they can remain heroes too. In any case it is too early to judge Obama. He has clearly opted for an idealistically motivated term, but it is too early to write him off as too naive to be effective.
20. It is blasphemy to compare Ben Gurion to Obama
Michael Hess ,   Charlotte, NC   (07.12.10)
One had a small physical stature with a tiny voice but was a giant in ideas and accomplishments of a lifetime. The other is imposing in his arrogance and narcissism with a booming voice yet a midget in achieving anything to better people's lives. One has worked hard all his life yet no international recognition. The other had barely been sworn in for 10 days and a decision had been made to award him Nobel Peace Prize that even the awarding committee had to go through hoops to find a lame justification for it.
21. #17 more like an amateur in Zionist History
Michael Hess ,   Charlotte, NC   (07.12.10)
and not very good at it either. Zionist Historian my foot! Taking out of context half quotes of Ben Gurion exposes you for what you are. Take a good look in the mirror and say honestly that you don't have Antisemitic biases.
22. A discussion of legality
John R ,   NYC USA   (07.13.10)
The only country in the entire world that believes Israel has an unrestricted right to build housing in Jerusalem is Israel. The International Court of Justice ruled in 2004 that its annexation was a violation of the Geneva Convention. None of the 162 countries in the world which recognize Israel maintain an embassy in Jerusalem. UNGAR 181 which was signed off by Ben Gurion and Israel's National Council prior o it's passage did not say Jerusalem was included in Israel's borders. That resolution is referenced in and gives legal status to your Declaration of Independence which created the legal State of Israel. Palestinian housing is illegal because Israel only gives Israelis the building permits not because of international law.
23. illegality
arieh zimmerman ,   Kibbutz Zikim,israel   (07.16.10)
How many illegal Jewish homes are built on Palestinian land on the West Bank every year?
24. The Fight for Jerusalem
Michael Duncan ,   Springfield, OR USA   (07.18.10)
I follow the events in Israel very closely, and it's odd how a Jewish man does not hide his face, yet a Hamas, Hezbollah, or some other 'militant' always hides his face. These are supposed to be such 'brave' men who only fight for 'what is rightfully theirs. Yet they melt into crowds of women and children and dare you to fire at them. I'm an American, and here we see that for what it is; cowardice. Why don't you give them 'What is rightfully theirs?' Death, swift and sure and PUBLIC. And let it become a common event. Turn the Mossaud loose on those craven cowards. Do these things, and I believe that your problems would soon be over. Michael Duncan
