1. Thomas colleagues also thought her outburst uncharacteristic
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (07.11.10)
How curious that whenever these journalists or diplomats finally reveal their true sentiments their colleagues arise to insist they don't reflect the person they know. Perhaps they simply don't want to see what's before them. Or perhaps they're just protecting one of their own.
2. fired
colin   (07.11.10)
Best action CNN could do. The CNN is in all ways anti Israel and anti semetic Perhaps with the leader kicked out and disgraced CNN will change thier sick reporting tactics,CNN must have lost much support and feel the missing income from the jews around the world.
3. CNN anti Israel there reporting unfair to
Eric..... ,   Israel....   (07.11.10)
wards Israel.Watch Fox news they are fair and unafraid.
4. I never liked this woman's reporting
Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (07.11.10)
but I don't like that she was fired for expressing a personal opinion. Had she voiced this on camera, it would be different.
5. much as I really like the idea of getting rid of a closet-
L ,   Israel   (07.11.10)
anti-Israel journalist....I hate to say it (I really do), but I'd have to say I agree with Linichka (#4) on this one. Anything as casual and as unelaborated-upon (and as undignified) as something called a "tweet" is what I'd call "off-the-cuff" and a personal opinion that was not expressed in a professional or public capacity. A person is entitled to their own opinion -- so long as they keep it out of their reporting and maintain vigorous checks-and-balances on their objectivity in the public forum.
6. just who were those Israelis?
Golan ,   modiin   (07.11.10)
leftists? anarchists? communists? "Palestinian" Israelis? consider the source.
7. "Uncaharcteristic?"
Arie ,   BaGolan   (07.11.10)
or a Freudian slip like Thomas finally putting to rest her true views on Jews and humanity?
8. And Judge Richard Goldstone...
Dan the Jafa ,   Auckland, Aotearoa   (07.11.10)
... is a true friend of Israel and a true zionist. Yeah right. Tui moment.
9. "a special monitoring division"
Arie ,   BaGolan   (07.12.10)
Same type of division that the BBC set up to determine if its reporting is targeted against Jews, and when it found that it did, the BBC paid hundreds of thousand of british pounds to quash the reports. CNN is simply taking a page from the BBC book
10. Helen Thomas In A League By Herself
Armchair General ,   Wisconsin, USA   (07.12.10)
Helen Thomas was hell on wheels. Year after year for decades, she would open the press conference with a verbal assault on Israel disguised as a question. The worst part, I've read, is she was chosen by her colleagues to lead off. How much does the mainstream White House press corps hate Israel? The few times I saw Octavia Nasr on air she was OK. Unprofessional of her to post that tweet. The one who bugged me was Christiane Amanpour. She did that series that somehow found a moral equivalency with Jews, Christians, and Islam as extremists. She equated Evangelical Christians and Israelis living in Judea and Samaria with Islamic jihadist terrorism. There is no equivalency, but you dare not say it or whisper it. Even our own govt. won't say it out loud. CNN's attitude toward Israel seems to mimic Jimmy Carter's. Over the years there has been an open mike for Jimmy Carter at CNN headquarters in Atlanta.
11. What do some Israelis from special circles think
m   (07.12.10)
Fawning over the Arabs, showing how liberal, objective and unbiased you are will save you when they take over? Emphaticaly not, in the least, it has been tried for 2000 years, never worked. You the universalist Israeli just like the universalist Jew in Europe before the war will be the first one they will destroy. Get a backbone and stand for your pride.
12. The truth will out
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (07.12.10)
Her comments in Twitter reveal her inner anti-Semitic & anti-Israeli beliefs. Her public image was probably groomed to cover up her real sentiments. Her dismissal is correct.
13. Christiane Amanpour will be leaving CNN to join ABC News.
redbourn ,   arad - israel   (07.12.10)
Let's hope that Christiane Amanpour gets fired too. She really is a biased anti-Israel journalist who has spread untruths for a couple of decades. Michael
14. NASR admired Fadlallah-and ignored his advocacy of terrorism
lily   (07.12.10)
Several journalists have noted that CNN's senior editor of Middle East affairs, Octavia Nasr, proclaimed her respect for Hezbollah's spiritual guru, Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad Husayn Fadlallah after his recent death. On her Twitter page, Nasr wrote: Sad to hear of the passing of Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah.. One of Hezbollah's giants I respect a lot. Daniel Halper points out on the Weekly Standard blog that Fadlallah "famously justified suicide bombing." Read more at: http://xrl.us/bhrmcy
15. You should'nt have regretted it ..........
Majed ,   Jerusalem, Palestine   (07.12.10)
Do not worry about it Naser. Nobody watches CNN any more it is slowly dying. Move on to Al jazeera English better place for you and more popular.
16. Octavia Nasr and Helen Thomas
david cohen ,   china   (07.12.10)
Dont blame them for stating their "truth" after stating for so many years what was politically right. CNN managment is hypocrite. Only the BBc is more anti-Jewish than CNN. By their standard Nasr has not stated anything that they deeply disagree with. The same for Thomas. The present administration created this anti-Jewish atmosphere that made Thomas let down her 'defense".
17. What is a extremist?
Jakob ,   Beer Sheva   (07.12.10)
Is 'extremist' what a majority of people think it is or is it (let's say) everything that violates the 10 Commandments? Supporting a person that calls for the murder of Jews is not extremist by the first standard, it seems. But he was against "honor killings" (a great humanist indeed) of Muslim women. That's double ethics.
18. #13, Michael, you are completely right...
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (07.12.10)
Christiane Amanpour, an Iranian, was always on Irans side and a sworn enemy of Israel...
19. Tweet is THE definition of PUBLIC speach.
Will48 ,   Israel   (07.12.10)
Calling him "one of Hizballa's giants"... GIANTS???.. What is that? Are there any more such giants in Hizballa in her opinion? See, it's not her praise of him; it is her praise of the whole Izlamic genocidal welfare organization. Case closed. And those "Israelis" familiar with her... Are they all from Ha-Aretz? or maybe Al-Banorama (is it, the name of that Arab rag?). Bishara is also "an Israeli", let's ask his opinion!!!
20. #11 "Get a backbone and stand for your" TRUTH.
Will48 ,   Israel   (07.12.10)
One correction there. Pride is not a virtue; true honor and Truth are the virtues. What Arabs call "honor" is better translated as "pride" - it is their personal pride they're talking about. Honor, in the West, is about personal integrity.
21. It is not OK to LIE about Serbia too
Will48 ,   Israel   (07.12.10)
yet the Western media do so for the last two decades. Serbs were West's allies in the Cold war too, but the Americans wanted to carry favors with the Muslims, their true allies, and Germans wanted to give independence to their WWII fascist allies the Croats. So the campaign of lies and demonization was unleashed. There is now an ICC trial against Karadzic where the truth is finally coming out in the open, but the MSM are silent. We are in the same position, and any leader who wants to accomodate the West at Israel's expense, should just look at the fate of those Serbian leaders.
22. #15 Yes, Al-Jazira are much better liars.
Will48 ,   Israel   (07.12.10)
23. CNN cares?
Rube Vogel ,   Jerusalem   (07.12.10)
Since when does CNN care about objectivity - especially re: terrorists? Very strange. They probably wanted to get rid of her anyway and just used this as an excuse.
