If US, EU and Russia recognize new PA state then Israel would have to seriously deal and Netanyahu would have some cover.

Please do not forget that very shortly after Israel's stupendous victory in the Six-Day War, East Jerusalem was annexed, made irrevocably a unified city and equally irrevocably the eternal capital of the State of Israel. East Jerusalem has been ANNEXED. It is now forever a part of the State of Israel. It does not matter who recognizes this or who doesn't. What matters is that (i) Israel acquired the territory through fighting a defensive war and the land is therefore Israel's to retain and (ii) Israel is a sovereign and as such is entitled to full and fair exercise of eminent domain. Israel does not NEED anyone's permission to build anywhere in Jerusalem. And as Jerusalem expands and grows, certain areas are incorporated by geographical fact into the municipality of Jerusalem and, as such, become a part of unified Jerusalem. No matter what anyone else says. That's accepted international law and the accepted concept of eminent domain. Deal with it. It isn't going to change.

We all know Meretz has always stood among the looniest of the loony left. A couple of decades ago, Meretz would have tried to make the (ludicrous) argument that ceding Jerusalem is good for Israel. Today the thin patriotic mask has fallen off. The pretense of loyalty to Israel is gone. Meretz's loyalty is to Obama, and his ilk. Not to Israel.

There are any number of territorial disputes throughout the world which are not recognized by the prevailing international view. Doesn't change anything. And I have to tell you, Israel's argument is better than most. By the way -- indigenous -- since you identify yourself as such,permit me toI remind you that the "Palestinians" are, in fact, indigenous to the Hejaz in the Western Arabian desert. Jews are indigenous to Jerusalem. You claim that Arabs recognize a "beloved Jerusalem." Oh, really? Didn't pay too damn much attention until Israel acquired East Jerusalem in 1967. For that matter, how many times is Jerusalem mentioned in the Qu'uran? I'll tell you. Zip. Zilch. Nada. NOT ONCE. Contrast that with the thousand of references to Jerusalem in the Hebrew Bible.
