32. Finally!!! A democracy can defend itself!
(07.13.10)
This is a great day finally: How can racist person such as Miss Zoabi be seating inside this plenum. She is pushing for hatred between arab and jewish communities and do not seek peace. People pushing for Iran to have a bomb are clearly anti-israel and I think even worse. All the arab and jewish public and the entire polictal parties in israel should be relieved. The same in France today ( burka ban finally!! ) which also shows like for Israel that democracy can react and defend herself against intolerance and unfair use of liberty to promote violence, hatred and racism. If she thought she was promoting the right of arab in Israel, she is even crazier than I thought because she did the contrary because of her confrontation and undemocratic stand.

you answered your own question. by aiding and supporting the enemy she automatically sides with the enemy. i'd like to suggest you read poster #8. "I pledge myself to bear allegiance to the State of Israel", and that phrase actually goes on that you may never betray your country, etc etc ... the fact that she was on the marmara together with a dozen known terrorists, makes her one of them, is she took part in violence or not. by rejecting the very idea of the state of israel (a state for the jews) she rejects the constitution and therefore has nothing to do in the knesset. the knesset is not here to fight the very idea of the country and it's citizen, it's here to enhance the law to protect it's citizen, also from terrorists appeaser like zoabi. her loyalty is now very questionable and therefore revoking her rights is only solution. i must remind you that if this kind of incident would have happened in the european or usa parlament, they would act much harsher against her than in israel. and in an arab state? she would have lost her head by now.

Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (07.14.10)
she did a stupid move by going on the flotilla and revokes her privileges is good politics in Israel but this could backfire on the world stage. She was unknown to the world before now the world press will let her tell her message and if she is not allowed to run for election again. it will make it a bigger story.
38. To 29 To answer your questions
The Dude   (07.14.10)
"She rejects the idea of Israel as a Jewish state seeing the idea as racist, will not stand for Hatikva, voiced support for Iran's nuclear program as a balance to Israel, rejects the idea of Arabs doing national service," This is allowed as Free Speech in a democracy. And she was indeed allowed to do this. The same that Tibi and Barakeh do this or did this, respectively. Regardless of the hypocrisy of hating a state that is literally the only one in the region that gives her such benefits to speak and act in a such a manner. However it was this final part that was problematic. "and was on board the Mavi Marmara but did not take part in violence. " This does no matter that she did not partake in the violence. She actively took part in a boat that was trying to break a legal blockade set up by the IDF. She was actively aiding an attack against the sovereignty of the state of Israel. The exact state she has sworn to be a MK. This is an act of Sedition at minimum and maximum of treason. No American Senator, British Parliamentarian or EU whatever would dare try to create a situation that challenges the sovereignty of their state, as setting up a blockade, and more essentially the right to defense are key aspects of what make a state. Also considering the fact that she aided in a situation where Israeli soldiers could have been killed and did indeed get injured is also illegal for a representative do as such, unless it is through some sort of organized active declaration, like declaring war. She also by her presence was acting as a shield against those seeking to harm the sovereignty of the state and now obviously it's citizenry in uniform. So in fact she is lucky that she isn't being tried for treason. "My question is: did she actually break any laws? " If was without the Mavi Marmara then no, just repugnant behavior. But she aided an abetted people seeking to harm the state. "Isn't her behavior part of free speech in a democracy? " If she talked and did not participate, she could have levied all the criticism she wanted. But she acted with a group with hostile intent. So she got hostility in return.
39. Treacherous Zoabi
Xena   (07.14.10)
If democracy did not exist in Israel Zoabi would never have become a member of Israel’s parliament. Although she was not elected directly (her party was) she is nevertheless responsible for her own actions. Living in a democracy provides you with freedom and privileges but also with responsibilities. Members of the Knesset who abuse their parliamentary privileges should not be surprised when these privileges are revoked. Zouabi says "…Not only do I represent the opinions of my people, I represent those of other Arab MKs. I also represent a global consensus." Well, we know who the other Arab MKs are and we can guess who she means by ‘global consensus, but who are the people whose opinion she says she represents (who did not elect her and didn’t even know who she was until Balad was voted in), Israeli Arabs or Palestinians? This is the crux of the problem. She does not represent Israel, she makes this very clear. Invaliding her diplomatic passport is not the same as getting kicked out of the Knesset (or having her citizenship revoked) and as far as funding her legal expenses is concerned, why should the Israeli taxpayer pay for this? I am sure, though, that the ‘global consensus’ will help with legal expenses, or any other expenses she may have. She should remember, though, she lives in a democracy; she can continue ranting and raving as much as she likes, but what she should also remember is not to bite the hand that feeds her

42. With respect to MK Michaeli and
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (07.14.10)
Yisrael Beiteinu, sorry, never during my work with Yisrael Beiteinu had I ever heard anything like "Death to Arabs" nor anything remotely condemning Arabs at all. Had I witnessed such an attitude, I would have immediately condemned it myself. I'm not saying something like this did not occur in public, just that I don't know the context and I know for sure that such an outburst would have been m arginal to the party. As to the Russians, I have always found them no-nonsense defenders of our country. They do appear to lack the refinement of other Jewish MKs but then I always find them refreshing as what they do and what they state can be trusted. I also note with interest that Yisrael Beiteinu has expanded over the years and is far more than a "Russian" party. Although scorned by many and typified as racist, anyone who would just bother to visit its website would see that this is just not the case. Many people dismiss the leader and its adherents because Yisrael Beiteinu is not a welfare party. From the onset, Lieberman makes it clear that if you are allowed the benefits of national insurance then you need to participate in national service. This goes for the Charedim and the children of the elite of Tel Aviv as well as for our Arab population. It sounds like an extremely democratic view to me but does ruffle many feathers. So be it.
43. I found the posts in this Talkback section
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (07.14.10)
to be quite informative, both pro and con re Zoabi, her political stances and actions. Just to single out one commentator for his contribution, thanks to #33 "Israeli". At any rate, informed comments, clarity and interesting perspectives are where it's at for me.
44. Zoabi has not only spoken against the State of Israel
Harry Wright ,   UK   (07.14.10)
in her capacity as an MK but she has also acted illegally against it by taking part in an attempt to breach it. That is nothing but subversion of the State. She should be expelled from the Knesset as well. The action taken against her is far too mild.

46. Israel is "racist", and should learn principles of ...
whoever ,   wherever   (07.14.10)
Israel is "racist", and should learn the principles of democracy from Zobai, Islamic republic of iran, Saudi arabia, and other Arab countries. Have you ever hearn any jew be injured in Saudi arabia, have you ever heard any jewish representative in those middle eastern countries be expelled from any parliament?....conclusion ...arabs know what is democracy, and Israel should learn from them Read about Khyebar, that is the ultimate form of democracy in arab land,
47. Israel would be in right track, when...

53. Zoabi has to be indicted for treason !
Jaacov Baumann   (07.14.10)
Israel is at war with all the different muslim terror groups ! Zoabi is committting treason by working for these terror groups ( just like Tibi too ) If gov let her,Tibi and others stay in Knesset, gov is supporting the enemies of Israel in wartime - its absolutely foolish and it has a price : Jewish blood ! The gov is there to protect jewish lifes ! Make the gov do its job !
54. #11
jj   (07.14.10)
really? why was gerry adams was elected to parliament in 1983 without losing his seat as a result of his actions? and the same with bobby sands in 81? even as abstentionists, they were pretty clear in where they wanted their constituents' loyalties to lie. surely that would have lost them their seat? oh wait, britain does have something that resembles democracy. not like this pantomime in the middle east.
55. Zoabi the long over due

56. Representing voters?
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (07.14.10)
What a stupidity! Joining a foreign terror group against the state of Israel? Is this a way to represent her voters? In any muslim country she would be stoned , or in the Gaza, she allegedly tried to "help" would be shot on the streets.
57. Israestinians are more dangerous than Palestinians
USA   (07.14.10)
Israstinians got to go. Be MK in any one of your 22 Arab countries or go to UK, Germany or USA and run for office thereI. I srael is a Jewish state. Giving her an Iranian passport was a great idea. I salute the MK who did that.
58. Israel you made me proud to be a Jew today
USA   (07.14.10)
Rak Kach you deal with your enemies with strength, determination and purpose.
59. LEGALIZE KACH. ARAB PARTIES ILLEGAL.
USA   (07.14.10)
Balad and other arab parties should be banned for being anti Zionist parties. If they banned Kach for being "racist." Arab parties must be banned for being Anti Zionist or someone should have the nerve and legalaize KACH. Israel, enforce the law equally and fairly.
60. to 22 ,..
split ,   usa   (07.14.10)
What enemy? For God's sake this woman was on the ship with bunch of activists trying to deliver aid to besieged people thru an illegal blockade. She's lucky she didn't get killed or got wounded like the other guys,... ------------- MKs like Zoabi or Tibi will think twice before giving aid and comfort to the enemy.
