1. Our education system is a total failure
Sam ,   Netanya, Israel   (07.18.10)
Kids have no values because our education system transmits no values except "isardout", "kohav nolad", or "haravak". This is the kind of examples our TV broadcasts to our youth. "Education ministers" these 20 last years worked hard to remove anything in relation with judaism or moral from school manuals. The results are devastating, but who thinks that it is a suprise just lies to himself.
2. Well, that was pretty depressing.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (07.18.10)
No values, no ethics. Believe me, I'm no prude, but this is disturbing, not that I'm at all surprised. I've seen enough of the empty-headed kids wandering around the beachfront here in Eilat late at night, drinking, trying to act ''cool'' - and I don't mean young adults, although they're pretty brain-dead as well.
3. What is this? NOTHING
Israeli 2   (07.18.10)
but NOTHING is new. Girls become women and the natural process begins. Ein chadash tachat lashemesh, chevreh!!!
4. sad indeed...
outsider ,   TA   (07.18.10)
what about aids?, does this mean we have soon a young generation who are HIV positive and don't know it... As someone who didn't grew up here I do have to say that most Israelies are obsessed with sex, money, drugs and the woman with their looks (plastic surgery etc)..sad indeed....
5. they lost their torah values...
uli ,   israel   (07.18.10)
you say all the time "young israelis", just this isn't true. it should be "young SECULAR israelis". Young kids that grow up with nothing to hold on, with no values and no outlook on live, no torah, no jewish values. and they break down, they feel unwanted, they feel angry, because they can't manage a world were there is no sense and everything is allowed, they try to "feel" themselves, to do radical things to get the impression that there are things that somehow matter or make you important or something. Stop telling us "israeli kids" when you mean "israeli secular kids" and start to look why national religious kids have so much more values, feel sefer and with self-esteem, volunteer, care more for society, etc. and what the secular society could learn from them!
6. to #4 there r other things you can catch during
ghostq   (07.18.10)
unprotected sex, and you can get HIV from drug abuse, not just sex, and the last time I heard the viruse don't care about age, as for shalow society you might adress it to adults as well, since everyone care about reality junk tv showes. and pop culture of today in the world (plastic surgery is also done among religious people-everywhere).
7. you reap what you sow, ynet...
yahudi ,   israel   (07.18.10)
...everyday ynet is bursting with anti-religious propaganda - well, i hate to say it, but when you spit on the jewish lifestyle and embrace westernism, then this is what you get. surprise surprise, you tried to be like the west, and now you got what you wanted...is it as sweet as you thought it would be?
8. Parents should not put their children on oral contraceptives
Rivkah   (07.18.10)
or allow abortions. If a parent puts a child on oral contraceptives instead of separating the child from sexual predators (holy means separate or set apart for the Lord), the parent will be held accountable to the Lord for causing a child to stumble which is an eternal death penalty offense God cannot forgive. If the parent allows an abortion, the child and the biological father cannot enter the kingdom of God because not providing for your own in an eternal death penalty offense even though the Lord can forgive the murder aspect of abortion if there is repentance. He cannot forgive not providing for one's own when the baby could have been allowed to be born and given up for adoption which is a way of providing for the baby's care. It is a parent's responsibility to teach the Torah and Tanakh to their children and to keep them separate from opportunities to sin. Failure to do that can bring judgment on the parents. Grandparents are often better suited to be parents for grandchildren because they understand the importance of keeping the children separate from the world. Children who stumble sexually or have abortions often become suicidal and depressed because they are then separated from the Lord like Adam and Eve were thrown out of His presence for sin.
9. Teenage sex
SDB ,   ZY Israel   (07.18.10)
Research has consistently shown the world over that boys and girls achieve better scholastic results when they study in a non co-ed environment. This enhances self-esteem, and creates supportive peer groups, instead of peer-pressure. In addition, there is a lot to be said for school uniform. What a tragic story.
10. I think you call this openness!!
Salma ,   Palestine   (07.18.10)
i feel pity and sad for these girls, sorry i mean these kids. These young girls can't be blamed ,when society in general, urging youth to to fight against morals and good examples, can't expect anything else :(
11. What's new exactly here ?
Michael   (07.18.10)
There have been girls like that since forever even in religious circles (I know some). Happily they are a tiny minority. On the average, according to all studies, Israeli seculars teens are much more conservative and have much less sex than US or European teens.
12. #1 is so right
cool safta   (07.18.10)
The rubbish programmes are the dregs. Our childen/grandchildren are what you would call upper middle class but their chidren are addicted to all this rubbish. Oh, they're shomer shabbat/kashrut too and at religious schools. But this addictive low life tv rubbish is sickening. Added to bigger rubbish addictions called facebook and internet of course.
13. How we become from books kids to porn kids?
Wave of mutilation   (07.18.10)
Great story, we must have Self-awareness fot the kids. and spread that all the time.
14. Osher will be good wife
Hasan ,   RUSSIA   (07.18.10)
15. young teenagers
Maayan ,   Israel   (07.18.10)
Yes,this is a wake-up cry for parents. This girl is calling all of us to listen. We parents need to take our role as parent more seriously. Spend time with our teenagers. Talk to them, check on their intake ( what movies, which social network, etc) and friends. 14-year olds might act mature, but are still children in need us parents to guide and protect them . We cannot blame the system. We need to help our children develop right relationships, make choices without risks, teach sexual abstenance without risk of emotional damage and sexual deceases. Be there for them.
16. It's not only in Israel...
Anon   (07.18.10)
In most part of the so-called civilized Western world, sex is promoted by TV shows and consumerism culture. I was horrified when I saw an 8 year-old girl doing sexy dance moves she watched from daytime TV. This is worrying. Both adults and youth have lost their values and only looking for more money, more power, more sex, more women, men etc...Very sad indeed.
17. Oh, No! Oh, Yes!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.18.10)
18. Ynet will return to what it does best......
Al   (07.18.10)
Running a kulturkamf against Religious..Haredi Jews blah blah blah. All the while your fine educated secular youth are turning into garbage. You expect this crap to protect you against your enemies who are working 24/7 to kill you? Look at your soldiers.. Most of them are national religious, another group you love to hate. These kids will save your sorrry asses. Enjoy your new postzionist creation...YOu dummies...... Dont expect your kids to be there for you when you are old and ill. You created dreck now deal with it.
19. It is time educators and parents assume responsibility
Rachel ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (07.18.10)
for this kind of activity. On one level, this story offers a warning to parents and to educators that they have a long way to go to stop this sort of behavior among teens. The comments made by the subject of the article are revealing in a few key parts. Yes, she has self-esteem issues which I hope she can work out successfully, but stating how unpleasant she views sexual experiences is an unfortunate by-product. Hopefully, she will one day have the kind of sex someone has when they have a bond with someone they care deeply for. That is really what sex is all about. As for how she got into this situation, the fact that her 14-year old peers bullied her into having sex shows that the state education system is sorely lacking in information to students on this matter. Bullying is a serious problem in schools for pre-teens and it appears the school system is not addressing it at all. It is no different than a rapist who wants to control their victim. The juvenile authorities ought to be looking at charging some of these little jerks who took advantage of the girl and others like her to send a message that it will not be tolerated in our society. It is assumed under the laws of most civilized societies that sex with someone this age is not consensual. It is rape. Societal pressures are bad enough on teens without having to worry about someone spreading malicious gossip around about their personal lives, which I assume is why the one jerk used his cell phone in an effort to blackmail her later on. This is also a criminal act. It is sexual harassment which has civil penalties even under the backward Israeli legal system.
20. If Israeli youth were in such bad shape
Pheppsie ,   Netanyahu   (07.18.10)
they would not be volunteering for combat units in the IDF at record levels, beyond any previous period including, let's say, the 1950s or 1960s which some mythicize as a time of patriotic commitment before all the Western junk-culture set in. I can't say for sure, but I tend to think no. 11 above is closest to the truth. There are cases like the girl in this article; the reporter is sensationalizing it and overgeneralizing it; there is too much decadent Western culture among the youth; but overall, the situation is not that bad and most of them will grow up to be good, conservative, loyal Israeli citizens.
21. #16 Anon. Not just in Western countries.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (07.18.10)
I mean, you're right, this is a big problem in every Western country. But I come from a Muslim/Arab country originally & let me tell you, it's worse than in the West. I won't go into details, this just isn't the forum for such a discussion but I could tell you stories that would make your hair stand up.
22. Her counterpart could find this as a stigma.
e ,   USA   (07.18.10)
There's nothing wrong with being ignorant of certain said acts until it's time for you to know. The media put's the burden on the innocent.
23. #10 Salma, have a look at your own society first.
Dan ,   Amsterdam&Bethlehem   (07.18.10)
It's not uncommon to have teenage sex in Palestinian areas at all. Haven't you heard of 'virginity-repair' surgeries in Palestinian areas? I have met many Palestinian boys who boast about the young Palestinian girls whom they seduced for sex. These are happening in places like Jenin and all over the area. Not to mention some Palestinian men's annoying behaviours and sexual assaults against foreign women who come to area to help but receive sexual assault instead.
24. #1 school's job is not to raise kids
Golan ,   modiin   (07.18.10)
schools are there to learn math, reading, history.... they are failing at that yes. But values are taught by parents. As for TV I agree with you that it is a problem and the parent's biggest nemesis. But don't expect schools to do parent;s work for them.
25. No One Israeli Community
David ,   Jerusalem   (07.18.10)
Israeli society is balkanized and has many communities. The norm of secular jews in the gush dan region may not be the norm of Israel's mainstream traditional Jews in their region, let alone religious Jews. This depicts the social norms of one Israeli social subset and not the nation as a whole.
26. to #21 that is not new phenomena
ghostq   (07.18.10)
maybe you r not aware of it, it is very old phenomena, teens didn't lose their morals over night, you just hear about it now because the easy media and info acsses but it was there 50 years ago. entire movies were made on teen habits.
27. War
megs ,   Amsterdam, Netherlan   (07.18.10)
Isn't this part of the problem? Generation after generation of CHILDREN growing up in a country either at war, preparing for war or dealing with the aftermath of a war? War seem to be in the psyche of every Israeli. And there is less and less will to change this status quo.
28. you eat what you bake
yoni ,   tel aviv   (07.18.10)
the whole society is based on this. the fashion, the movies, the role models, the values. this is not about the children it is about the adults. the children are only a product of the society that we build. we need jewish values to be reimplemented into our society. We are Jews and we have always had an amazing way of life full of joy and happiness, kindness and care, compassion and wisdom when Israel left Judaism we left those values and that wisdom for living behind shame on us
29. I am glad that my daughters are only aged 2 and 4
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (07.18.10)
I will enjoy everyday with my now innocent darlings and try my best to give them good Jewish values yet in ten years time things probally will be alot more challenging.
30. #24
doreen ,   TA   (07.18.10)
You are sooo right. People love to cry about the education system...I even think there is no connection. It is the parent's job to raise children, teach them values and encourage them, not the schools. And looking at the schools, thank God for that!
