1. Apology
Z-Man ,   USA/Israel   (07.16.10)
Looks like the Turkish government is the party that has some apologizing to do.
2. Turkeys All
nonjew ,   uda   (07.16.10)
Turkey is a terrorist haven that should br kicked out of NATO and part of the Muslim axis of evils. The EU better not let Turkey join the EU! We need to support the Kurds to keep Turkey in check. A friend of our enemy's is no friend of the west!
3. Erdogan's Turkey is digging its own grave
albert ,   paris france   (07.16.10)
Neither Europe nor America, including Canada, would want much to do with Turkey that is preparing its bed into which to go with some of the worst elements of human society. Turkey simply can't be a member of NATO when its best friends are Iran, Syria, North Korea, Hizballah, Hamas and IHH. Turkey simply can't be part of Europe if these are the friends it keeps. I feel sorry for many of the Turkish people for having been caught in this situation against their will. But it is only up to them to ensure that Turkey ceases to be Erdogan's.
4. ask yourself
izzie irgun ,   zion   (07.16.10)
wjhy is turkey formenting this incident and continiung to bash israel long after the world has moved on? then ask yourself why turkey is defending iran to the world with its fuel exchange offer that was universally rejected and which Brazil, to its credit, walked away from. but not turkey. The reason is clear, despite being a secular country the AKP Party is trying to integrate islam into governement policy. As a result it sides with radical islamic entities like IHH and Iran. However turkey does have elections and it is clear that the elites and middle class are lining up one side and the average guy, who is muslim, on the other. Pretty soon the average guy will realizae there is no payoff for being a hard core muslim state sitting on the eastern boarder of europe. Turkey is headed for isolation and rejection. Erdogan's government is really on borrowed time.
5. Turks being Turks
Arn ,   Yehud, Israel   (07.16.10)
Oh? And does this come as a surprise to anyone? It seems that Ataturk was just a negligible hiccup in Turkish history. Turks never stop being Turks. But to Erdogan's dismay he learned that Israel is not Cyprus and that its people are light years removed from those that were herded into Auschwitz. And Obama doesn't live here so apologies will not be forthcoming.
6. Is anybody surprised at this "news"?
Ram ,   London   (07.16.10)
7. Why such a fass from this news from the israelis???
sami ,   canada   (07.16.10)
All these media spin is nothing but to amuse some foolish american and israelis. 10 turkish MPs wanted to board in to the ship!!! Is it a news... when not only MPs from other european countries, ambassadors, noble peace prize winners, jews, muslim and christians, holocaust survivors boarded in to the ship. Is not it logical then some turkish MPs can also board in to the ship as it is originated from turkey. But they did not. So accoeding to the news article all the mps, ambassadors, noble peace prize winners are also terrorist!!! Get a live... Here, Israel commited act of terror and murdered innocent civilian. Israeli need to be accountable for this.
8. IHH
observer   (07.16.10)
IHH works in more than 100 countries and sent 33 tons of aid to Haiti after its January earthquake. The charity has one branch in the West Bank and another in Gaza, where Turkish families help pay for the care and education of 9,000 orphans.
9. This is more proof to the fact that Ardugan is a LIAR !!!!!!
Ziv ,   Raanana, Israel   (07.16.10)
10. Government Approved?
Aryeh ,   NY / USA   (07.16.10)
Normally, when a government approves the invasion of a foreign country it is considered to be a causus belli. Israel should be commended for down-playing this violation of its territory but should not permit a repeat.
11. The problem's with Barak the Impotant who sent soldiers with
akhmadinajad+erdugan ,   =hitler+mussolini   (07.16.10)
TOY GUNS. I would ask if he's son would had been there, would he have still sent him carrying a toy gun or would he have made sure to send him with real gun! What would anyone expect from a so called leader who escaped Lebanon, and along the way left the Christians in South Lebanon to the Mercy of the Hezbollah, and Left a Druze Soldier to die with no help at Madhat Yusuf?!
12. Semih Idiz writes at Milliyet
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (07.16.10)
Not Hurriyet. Just a friendly correction.
13. Observer - but you forgot to mention
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (07.16.10)
that teh IHH leadership have also close ties to the IBDA-C organization (many belonged to IBDA-C) that was responsible for killing many innocent people and burying them into the concrete of IBDA-C / Turkish Hezbollah owned buildings' foundations in 1080ies. Bulent Yildirim the leader of IHH was their lawyer. Both IBDA-C and Turkish Hezbollah are considered criminal illegal organizations.
14. #8 you too Brutus? member of IHH?
better observer   (07.16.10)
it is rhetorical it has always been known what you are how was Hajj last year? it is well known where you disappear for a week every year hopefully this year you will not be able to escape the annual death toll at this devil whoreshipping ritual
15. Edrogan's folly
john   (07.16.10)
It looks like Erdogan has set his own trap by sending the terror flotilla to break the blockade. He has now managed to put the Turkish terror group IHH on the spotlight in which he will have a lot to answer for if he want's to be part of the western world.
16. # 3 being a european, i also think turkey's affair
sonja ,   amsterdam   (07.16.10)
with the eu and with nato is probably over. i certainly would not want this country as part of the union and nor most people i know in holland.
17. It is Israel that Must Apologize
Doug ,   Rochester, USA   (07.16.10)
The blockade is illegal under international law because "the damage to the civilian population is, or may be expected to be, excessive in relation to the concrete and direct military advantage anticipated from the blockade." See San Remo Manual, Section 102. http://www.icrc.org/web/eng/siteeng0.nsf/html/57JMSU
18. Pipe down
Chimo ,   Las Vegas   (07.16.10)
You are just another leftist hypocrite trying to come in here and mouth off about Israel being in violation of international law. The flotilla was nothing less that an invasion of Israel and those 9 scumbags deserved to die for attacking the IDF. People like you should move away from the U.S. Real Americans like me and those who support Israel hate people like you who support terrorists
19. To: No. 17
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.16.10)
What "damage to the civilian population?" Israel trucks in tens of thousands of metric tons of food, medicines and supplies to Gaza every week. Israel's blockade of Gaza is a direct result of Hamas' constant armed aggression targeting civilian areas of Israel. The blockade is internationally recognized and it is fully legal. If you're really anxious to address humanitarian concerns arising out of blockades and embargoes, you need look no further than the United States' blockades in effect against North Korea and Myanmar. Where people really are dying of starvation -- unlike in Gaza, where obesity is rapidly becoming a real problem.
20. IHH belongs to the political party Millî Görüş,not Erdogan's
Hasan ,   Kazan, RUSSIA   (07.16.10)
21. #17
Adi   (07.17.10)
"may be expected to be"...."excessive in .." and who decide if "may" and what is "excessive"? ask the ppl in Sderot if they think is excessive. Sorry Doug, the blockade is legal! Get over it!
22. Turkey
Sol ,   Toronto, Canada   (07.17.10)
Israel should immediately recall its ambassador and cut all military and security ties with Turkey. Only when Turkey conducts a full and open investigation and issues an apology if the above is correct should these steps be reversed.
23. No surprise from a government friedly with rogue states
Joe ,   Canada   (07.17.10)
The Turkish invovement with IHH should not surprise anyone given that its leader Erdogan considers Ahmadinejad as his friend. All these representatives of rogue states or terrorist groups are welcomed by the Turkish establishment: Assad of Syria, Hamas, Hezbollah...Omar al-Bashir the genocidal leader of Sudan. A French saying states " Tell me with whom you keep company & I will tell you who you are".
24. THIS IS VERY VERY OLD NEWS!
Israeli 2   (07.17.10)
25. Hasan Kazan
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (07.17.10)
Isn'r Erdogan the studehnt of Erbakan? ISn't Bulent Arinc also from the same school? Erbakan, Erdogan, Arinc, Gul they are all teh representatives of the Milli Gorus. The only difference is that AKP is trying to reach the goal by riding on th edemocracy bus. As Erdogan once said as soon as they reach their destination they will get off the bus.
26. #8, observer you need to observe deeper
Mongo ,   Paris   (07.17.10)
