1. We have proven that there is a civil democracy in Israel
Galut ,   selah   (07.19.10)
thank you citizens of israel ...it is thru actions of this nature that will bring peace to israel..... this needs to be highlited in the world press - as a counter point to palistinian propaganda
2. Did I miss something?
Bernie ,   France   (07.19.10)
Or maybe, our peace -partners don't seem to be that grateful to Israel' s civil democracy!
3. Why wasn't there water in the first place?
Michael ,   USA   (07.19.10)
So, why didn't Israel allow this village, which is under Israeli military control and jurisdiction, to have running water in the first place? That is the real question.
4. Well Done
Resistor   (07.19.10)
See what can be achieved without weapons, malice and aggression? I hope this is the future for all in Greater Israel and Palestine.
5. I hope that...
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (07.19.10)
we will see more stories like this in the future. This is wonderful. It is nice to reach out and help people in need whoever they may be. To all the people who had a hand in this, thank you.
6. may God bless their souls
jerusalem   (07.19.10)
"for the sake of Israel's PR image" --something somewhat appealing to them... hey, as long as it'll get the job done...
7. #1: they have a LONG way to go...
jerusalem   (07.19.10)
i dont think that occupation and ALL ITS EVILS is an action of this (your stated) nature. lol this need to be highlighted in the presss...dont worry, it will. instead of worrying about propaganda, you should worry about your country's betterment of human rights and other things of POSITIVE humanitarian actions that are good for all (i.e. including the palestinians). and then your so called "palestinian propaganda" will work to your advantage.
8. #2: yes, by a long shot
jerusalem   (07.19.10)
no, or maybe, us Palestinains should be grateful for whatever (scraps) we can get from you, our very "humanitarian, upholders of democracy and justice"--eh? its enough that everyone knows that israel is an occupying power till today. pipe down!
9. Water
Yaffa ,   Miami-Dade   (07.19.10)
This Story reminds me of the history of my village in Israel Gedera, a Moshava founded in 1884 when the land of Gedera was purchased from a rich Arab landowner from the Arab village Katra. The 13 new owners had no water and wanted to pay the Arab village of Katra to use their well next door. The Arabs refused in the hope that the Jews will abandon the land. Gedera had to import the water on their back and the one horse a walk many hours away. I am glad that the Arab Village got their water.
10. Had you considered bombarding Hamas
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (07.19.10)
for the repatriation of Gilad Schalit?
11. Ohh..yes, give them water, electricity, food, healthcare
Dan ,   USA   (07.19.10)
give them everything they want and land too. Than perhaps they will stop blowing up the Jews in terrorist acts... yeah...keep your fingers crossed!
12. Maybe they can blog for something important, Shallit maybe.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (07.19.10)
13. Wow! Think the bloggers can get anything out of Hamas?
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (07.19.10)
Maybe the bloggers could try to lobby Hamas to abide by international law and allow the Red Cross to visit Gilad Shalit. That would be an impressive achievement. However, it simply won't happen. Hamas is not democratic, nor does it give a damn about international law. There may be civil democracy in Israel, but there certainly isn't very much of it in Gaza. Too bad that fact isn't a burning issue for bloggers anywhere...
14. civilian responsibility
galilean ,   Israel   (07.19.10)
Now lets hope that civil responsibility sinks into the minds of these people, and they start paying their municipal taxes and income taxes to the state. And so this way, will enjoy more and better services and improved infrastructure.
15. #3 why not in the first place
Israeli grandma   (07.19.10)
Before 1967( when Israel was attacked from all surrounding areas and had to fight a war of defence), the WB contained many tiny Arab villages and some Beduin encampments. These places were mostly dependent on stored winter rainwater and local wells for their water supply. What happened since then? Under Israeli control many were connected to our piped water supply, a fact ignored by anti-Israel propagandists. A complication is that the Arab villages have had an unprecedented growth and expansion of population in the last 25 years overburdening their natural water supply which served them for generations. There is also widespread theft by the Arabs from Israeli laid water pipes, causing drinking water shortages to both Jewish and Arab villages. These are the facts.
16. #12 Bunnie Meyer - Maybe you could make aliah
Avi ,   Israel   (07.19.10)
Your one to speak, you cant even commit to Israel yet feel free to lecture us how to live our lives in Israel from the comfort of LA. Where were you when we were marching for Gilad Shallit, shopping on Rodeo drive or at the spa ?
17. Great news for a change
Avi ,   Israel   (07.19.10)
Just goes to show there are still some decent people who care for others, well done this is what peace is all about.
18. Why worry about the well being of the
jason white ,   afula, israel   (07.19.10)
enemy that is illegally occupying Israel. Does the enemy ever worry about us? Is that the only thought that goes through the heads of these fools? What about Gilad? Start a campaign to free him. What about our other missing soldiers? Did the villagers even offer condolences for all our terror victims that their fellow arabs killed?
19. Re:7. #1: they have a LONG way to go...
Galut ,   selah   (07.19.10)
Community co-operation is a step in the right direction....carefully building trust..... the wrong way is indoctrinating the community (adults and children)with hate and encouraging suicide bombing ..... many of human rights issues stim from the fear that israeli families safety is at risk ...so they put into effect measures to insure that safety... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY0zE64thJ4
20. #8 So why
Noa   (07.19.10)
I don't understand why you don't try to get your act together and build up things. Why expecting scraps or behaving like wild animals? You have so many friends in the world, do something useful!
21. #1-"plans on connecting...water supply in the near future"
lara ,   Australia   (07.19.10)
You commented on Palestinian propaganda, but what is this? They plan to connect the water supply in the "near future". The "near future" might be a year from now. You are boasting civil democracy when the only action is 2 phone calls making claims which have yet to be followed through with any action. This is not a "counter point to Palestinian propaganda", it is an Israeli PR stunt. However, all this proves is that Palestinians are deprived of a necessary resource by Israel.
22. lara , Australia
Galut ,   selah   (07.19.10)
when Israel left gaza in 2005 - they gave the gazens 100s of working green houses.... which were promptly destroyed by Hamas supporters ...and thousands qassam rocket attacks on israeli towns were launched as a thankyou note...only after many request for the the rocket fire to stop did the israelis implimrnt tight security on boarded crossings as any country would have done... the green houses could have been a big source of food for the gazens... but now hamas can claim poverty of the gazens a poverty they helped along by destroying the greenhouses
23. #20: oh, because
jerusalem   (07.19.10)
I know why "you dont understand" and all I want to add is that if you are too blinded by your own views to care to think about the other side and its circumstances, why should I care to explain it to you? No need to think yourself into oblivion, nobody expecting scraps. We are doing something useful, we are making your life a living hell :-p we do actually have quite a few friends. this is with the will of God. alhamdulillah.
24. #22- Where do you get your facts from?
lara ,   Australia   (07.20.10)
In 2005 the Israeli settlers destroyed the Greenhouses in Gaza and in 2008 war a further 186 Greenhouses were destroyed in Gaza. So I don't know where you get your information from, but it is obviously wrong. Furthermore, it has nothing to do with my previous post and makes no sense as a reply.
25. "located on Israeli territory"
Ethylene ,   UK   (07.20.10)
If Al-Tawana is inside Israel, then why is its water being connected by the "Civil Administration" for the occupied territories? I'm guessing it's actually in the OPT and the mistake will be corrected?
26.  24. re24:#22- Where do you get your facts from?
galut ,   selah   (07.20.10)
