2. PR
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (07.22.10)
Somebody pay attention to what this man says!!!
3. First out of the gate
marty ,   Toronto Canada   (07.22.10)
One other important factor - get Israel's message out to the media quickly. If the "other side" gets their message out to the world first - that's what people remember regardless if it is proven to be untrue or pure propaganda. A prime example was the so called "Jenin Massacre" The Palestinians were shown on the evening news wailing away about a "massacre". Despite the fact that the "massacre" was later proven to be bogus - the damage was already done - all people remember was that initial news clip about "the massacre".
4. PR
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot Israel   (07.22.10)
Right on. Isreal desperatly needs professinal PR. The other side is wining the PR war by leaps & bounds an swining world publi opinion to their side.
5. 5WPR??
Renana ,   Herzelia   (07.22.10)
Is that not a strange and cumbersome name for a PR company that preaches to send messages that are loud and clear?
6. Propaganda versus facts.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (07.22.10)
Left-wing propagandists have spent the last several years successfully painting a picture of Gaza as a place where children starve and where all are in need. In reply, Israel and her defenders have attempted to point out that such tales are pure myth and that, in fact, there is no shortage of food or medicine in Gaza despite the limited blockade that has been imposed on the region since Hamas seized power there in a bloody coup. But why the western elites do not like Israel ? Consult : http://xrl.us/bhqj6q
7. Positive PR Exists
Chaim ,   Jerusalem   (07.22.10)
There are some orgs out there doing good, positive work for Israeli causes and Israel's image - check out NUCampaign as an example www.NUcampaign.org
8. This article is a call to genocide PR
Salma ,   Palestine   (07.22.10)
With this nonsense only truth and humanity will lose the PR war! I'm not a PR professional but my humble opinion, is: you don’t wait for a crisis to happen, you should always have a plan, number one in the plan must be, to do everything to avoid the crisis. I disagree with Ronn Torossian, "Israel" was able to stay up to this day because of its "GOOD PR"!!
9. FLAWED BASICS
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (07.22.10)
It is not a flawed public relations and communications work that has put this state in danger as this writer states. As usual Ynet in its never ending blindness, crasps for for straws to hang on to their failed state. It is the underlying Atheist secular Zionist Ideaology that hates its own Jewisness, that is the cause of its own collapse. Israeli media are masters in PR and abuse it often, in order to further their Utopian world order state, that will wipe out any Jewisness left in it.Just look at our utterly corupt court system. They have indoctrinated and brainwashed this population now for over 60 years. It is the world that is just doing its historical job to make sure that Israel will dwell seperatly among them. On a subconcsious level they know our place and destiny in this world. It is the assimilating attitude off our dear state and its confused leaders and elite that has always caused our trouble in history. No matter how slick PR will be put forward, in the end a rotten foundation will not support our home.
10. the entire country of israel
JL   (07.22.10)
is lacking and poorly managed...anyways...it would not look good if israel hires proffesionals as it would actually cost money...something israel always says is lacking...even after all the handouts...
11. PR designated to failure due
ygalg ,   israel   (07.22.10)
corrupted government.
12. PR and the Mavi Marmara
T. Ritman ,   Chicago   (07.22.10)
Ronn, I disagree. Israel has erred by treating its "legitimacy deficit" as a public relations problem, rather than a policy problem. Better hasbara is not the answer. Israel's existence is based on Palestinian dispossession and inequality. Instead of denying and justifying these realities, let's encourage a necessary and long-overdue exploration of what Israel must do to build a true democracy, not a discriminatory system in which privileges and rights are granted according to religion and ethnicity.
13. PR
John ,   Herzliya, Israel   (07.22.10)
I agree, Israel has a PR problem. But I wonder how much you can help now, since journalists all over the world are already "used" to write this way. For example, in my country in one news article they mentioned Israeli athletes that DIED in Munich Olympics, while in the other one they mentioned Marmara piss activists that were KILLED by IDF. No big deal, one might say, but 50 years of such biased reporting causes some patterns in listeners' minds.
14. our best PR must be the BIBLE
mira ,   israel   (07.23.10)
we have something in common with the rest of the world and its the bible.
15. Bad PR. The left would not want it any other way.
Howard ,   USA   (07.23.10)
16. THIS TIME I MUST AGREE WITH SALMA
Israeli 2   (07.23.10)
DO not focus on PR...focus on doing your job and do what must. The rest is elementary...because we do not need to convince anybody that we have a strong will to survive. Isn't this correct, Salma?
17. Neglect of PR by government could be deliberate
Marcella   (07.23.10)
There is a powerful element within some sectors of Israeli society, including government, courts, media, human rights groups and other organizations - that aims at harming Israel in the eyes of the world in order to accelerate its partition and full transformation into a post-Zionist entity. There is no other explanation. That, combined with ineffectiveness by sectors who care about Israel, is resulting in the unravelling of the status of Israel as a legitimate country. And the neglect of good PR is only one manifestation of that deliberate self-destructiveness. Here is a sample of others: - Losing wars, withdrawing without accomplishing anything. - Allowing regular violent demonstrations not only by local leftists, but by foreigners who break the law and attack police in Israel. - No official reaction to the PA indoctrination. - Refusal to uphold the legality of Israeli borders according to international law. - The arming of PA "special forces" and the disarming of civilian Jews. Latest statistics: there were 274,067 licensed weapons held by Israeli citizens in 2001, and only 178,419 today. (INN) ------------- Actually, the list of anti-Israel, anti-Jewish policies is so long that all you have to do is to read the news carefully, connect the dots, and voila', you see how it all fits into a grand plan to drill as many holes in the boat as possible so that one day it will simply sink on its own. Mr Torossian, if you want Israel to have better PR, private citizens will have to pay for it themselves. Face it. The government does not want to do it. Post-Zionists want a non-Jewish Israel. They call for boycotts of their own country and immediate partition. They attack fellow Jews while they defend their adversaries. The Marmara disaster is emblematic of a government doing everything wrong. What are the chances of a government composed of intelligent, well-educated people making so many 'mistakes' in just ONE very simple incident? There is at least one effective way of dealing with any boat heading for Gaza: disable the boat and have it towed to Israel. Simple. It can be done every time with no major PR repercutions. The government's vision of PR is to promote Israel as a good place to do business and to enjoy parties at the beach. No pride in Jewish heritage, no sense of patriotism or high purpose. No real desire, it seems, to safeguard the country for future generations. Just enjoy while it lasts.
18. PR is BS
David N. ,   Haifa, Israel   (07.23.10)
What shallow minds have nothing better to suggest that the same lowly trade of PR that sells sugar water, nearly poison food, and silly fashion to people who never wanted any of those in the first place. I am with those who say let truth take care of itself. Let the gullable who think reading the media, mainstream or so-called alternate, actually educates them. Being "thoughtful" and "diligent" these days means googling or checking Wikipedia. And you want to "PR" that sheep-like world population? Lots of great efforts going on out there, but no one will give them the same air-time as Lindsay Lohan or Mel Gibson. Forget it, and let Israel remain in God's hands. Let this American abomination stay overseas.
19. Stop airing your dirty laundry in public
Janine ,   Australia   (07.23.10)
- thats what my mum used to say and she was dead right. I've read countless articles - Israeli ones- all lamenting the lack of good PR .." it would have worked if only the PR had been better".- over and over. I don't know about you but when we talk about PR we think of advertising and when we think of advertising we think of lying, low life salesmen - people who you wouldn't trust in a million years. Either get a good 'product' ( policy or whatever) and it'll sell itself or if you can't do that just SAY NOTHING- right now you just keep throwing oil on the fire.
20. bad 'pr'
moron ,   galut   (07.23.10)
not just a matter of tecnique--there is no unity in israel even around war with terrorists and message reflects this larger problem..also anti-semitism is back in fashion with gentiles as it's seen as convenient and memories fade..pr designed to convince enemies is recipe for suicide but pr as information to rally israel's friends and rebut slander can help but not all that much...language is important like terrorists are not militants and there is no 'occupied' territories only administered .and pictures like maps which show the land is too small to create another arab state
21. #19 obviously you haven't heard of character assassination
Howard ,   USA   (07.23.10)
No matter how correct, honest, decent life a person lives, that life can be destroyed by means of character assassination. Just spread enough lies and repeat them often enough and the world will start to believe it. A person or a country has to fight back to keep his or its reputation intact and to make sure the people hear the truth instead of a bunch of lies. PR means public relations. It can be used for good too, to inform and to correct misperceptions.
22. Israel's PR
mark tanenbaum ,   Miami Beach   (07.23.10)
I find Ronn's suggestions naive. Israel has "been there, done that". Ido Aharoni at the MFA has for years been trying to "re-brand" Israel. The reason for it's failure is obvious; The international community thinks that just because Israel is gay-friendly, has hot women and invented the cherry tomato, does not negate the "fact" that it mistreats the Palestinians. You can invent the cherry tomato and still be a racist country.

once israil was the only player .. time is changed there is an opurtunity to evry one to say .. it is not enough to know the facts but to tell it
24. Congratulations to you Marcella # 17 !
FO ,   BELGIUM   (07.24.10)
What you wrote, Marcella, is 100% correct.. Indeed, those aiming "at harming Israel in the eyes of the world in order to accelerate its partition and full transformation into a post-Zionist entity" are the heirs of those who in the past disowned the creation of a Jewish State (read the foreword of "History of Zionism by Nahum Sokolov) what made the Shoah possible.

Thank you. I have put that book on my reading list. Now I'm reading The Jewish State by Yoram Hazony, as recommended by Yoel Melzer on a recent column. It describes in painful detail how so many Israeli academics use their authority and influence to denigrate Israel and Judaism in a kind of language that would make a rabid anti-Semite blush. And how the left managed to pass Basic Laws in the Knesset giving extensive powers to the Supreme Court - without anyone even noticing. And the frightening agenda behind that innocuous "post-Zionist" designation. A little of the pre-WW 2 Jewish anti-Zionism was mentioned on talkbacks following Yoel Meltzer's column Overcoming the Rift ( TBs 6 and 18.) http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3910390,00.html
