31. why problems with transgender?
Ben ,   USA   (08.06.10)
To all the people who argue that having surgery to modify one's body is morally wrong, what do you say to the person born with a cleft palate? Live as God made you, without surgery? Recently there was an article on Ynet about an intersex man who wanted to join the IDF. Intersex conditions are where the person's genitalia has characteristics of both sexes. This man in question had internal female reproductive organs and external male organs but identified as a man. The man was not allowed to join the IDF (the excuse the IDF gave was age, but the man apparently disbelieved that excuse). Many talkbackers supported that intersex man. Why is it easier to support an intersex person's struggle to be the gender they feel they are and not the transgender person's struggle to be the gender they feel they are? The Talmud does acknowledge in-betweenness of sex/gender. There are the Androgynos and the Tumtum. These apparently acknowledge intersex conditions. Why is it difficult to accept that transgender is *LIKE* an intersex condition, in that the body is one sex and the brain is more like a typical brain of the opposite sex? Why can't the transgender person be regarded in a similar way to an intersex person, as an Androgynos or Tumtum, who is a mixture of the sexes/genders? The Torah says both men and women were created B'Tzelem Elohim, in the image of God. Thus, God has both male and female characteristics, since both men and women reflect God's image. But then if we both reflect God's image, and God's image is androgynous, does that not also mean each man and woman carries a little bit of androgyny in him-/her-self?

"i do not believe in a personnal god who punishes or rewards" Einstein .1954 . Do some research before writing .

Because one who has a 100% jewish soul can not be a real atheist, even if he thinks he is.Chabath Shalom.

Look on Google:Einstein and God.And than say sorry...if you can.
35. 33 , i'm not thinking it , i know what i am
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.07.10)
Don't INSULT me ! There is a Yiddish saying i have send you more than once , was NOT published , difficult to translate , But i'll try : don't put a illness [ Krenk ] in me . In yiddish it sounds more as it has to be .
36. 30 Einstein lived in the 21st century ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.07.10)
He died 45 years before , in 1955 . in 2005 the world commemorated the 100 th anniversary of his 3 important articles , and the 50 th anniversary of his deth [ had'nt to make research ]

thinkagain ,   jerusalem   (08.08.10)
I checked again on google: Einstein and God. Einstein believed in a impersonnel God,creator of the world. Einstein was not a spiritual specialist and had no religious educaton. No wonder he did not believe in a personnal God.
40. einstein2
thinkagain ,   jerusalem   (08.08.10)
Like you, Einstein did not want to believe in G-d.As everything in this world has a beginning, logically the world must also have a beginning. He invented a theory, which did not work.He than admitted, that the world has a creator.
41. to 39 & 40
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.08.10)
Einstein did'nt believe in a god as religious Jews do . So you can't say that he believed . From : Einstein in his own words , by Anne Rooney . P. 111 "i see only with deep regret that god punishes so many of his children for their numertous stupidities , for wich he himself can be held responsible ; in my opinion , only his NON EXISTENCE could excuse him " emphsis by me . So you were WRONG by telling that Einstein believed [ and also wrong on 21st century ]
42. To#41 einstein3
Thinkagain ,   jerusalem   (08.08.10)
I admit i was wrong on the 21th century. So if you were a professor at university(which is not impossible)you would give me a zero for all my exam on Einstein? About the NON EXISTENCE, as i said Einstein did not want to believe, but was forced to admit G-d s existence. If we want 100% truth,we cannot be selectif when describing facts.
43. To 42
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.08.10)
This 21st century was an error , you probably did'nt reread your copy . I suppose you know he died before . No points deducted for this . So my deduction of what you write is that to be a believer in god you have to study [ = brainwash ] religion . One thing is sure , when we talk about believing in a god on this website , and certainly in our discussion , it's only believing in the "Jewish God" . Nothing else . And in this god Einstein did'nt believe . The freemassons , i think but not 100 % sure , also talk about "the great architect of nature" , it's not the god Jews believe in either .
44. Jewish G-d
thinkagain ,   jerusalem   (08.08.10)
Sorry I do not believe that jews believe in a jewish G-d.G-d is not a jew.G-d is universal.Jews believe in the universal G-d who created the world, and gave to the world, the guide of his creation, which is the Tora.He proposed the Tora to many nations;only the jews accepted .
45. The Torah
(08.08.10)
jewish humor:The nationX did not accept the Tora because of the commandement:You shall not kill/ The nationYbecause of:you shall not lie.The nationZ because of: you shall not steal ;another nation because of:you shall not want the wife of your neighbour etc.etc.The jews asked; What is the price of the Tora?-Nothing,was the answer. In this case,we want two.
46. 44 , if only the Jews accepted , it's the Jewish
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.08.10)
The joke is a veryyyyyy ollllld one , with a beard from here to down under , but is about the 10 commandements : שני לוחות הברית Not the Jewish god ? OK , let's say the [ inexisting for Einstein and me ] god the Jews believe in .
47. I'll answer one of my own questions
Ben ,   USA   (08.08.10)
Kol HaKavod to those brave ones who support G. and other transgender folk openly. In response to one of the questions I posed in my post (#31): I think people can rally behind intersex people more easily than transgender people people because an intersex condition is more obvious. Doctors can verify it by eye. Being transgender (before any surgery or hormone treatment) is not obvious to the eye - you have to accept the claim of the person asserting their transgender nature. Most people, despite what they may claim about themselves, are not the amazing discerning judges of another person's mind that they may believe they are, and they have a hard time discerning if the person claiming to be transgender is telling the truth or not. This disturbs them, and they dress their feelings of being disturbed in "garments of holiness", as Micha put it (post #25), in order not to feel bad about feeling disturbed. I think this feeling-disturbed is primitive and can be likened to the lack of concept of permanence that human infants display. Psychologists know that babies lack the concept of permanence. If a parent is in front of them, they are happy. If the parent vanishes behind the wall, if only for a second, the baby reacts as if the parent is dead and has ceased to exist. I think something similar happens when a transgender person tells someone, perhaps a (soon-to-be?) former friend about their nature, it is as if the transgender person has "vanished behind the wall" and has ceased to exist. This explains why parents often go through a mourning period when their child comes out to them as transgender. In this case, the transgender person has not vanished behind the wall, but their spirit has, and all the parent or former friend sees in front of them is some ghostly disembodied shell (perhaps surgically- or homonally-altered) of the person they used to know. It is easier for the parent or former friend if the person is intersex because, from the point-of-view of the parent/former-friend, the intersex person has a good excuse to be whatever gender they feel themselves to be, no matter which one. After all, by most standards of gender/sex, the intersex person could be either gender/sex. The concept of permanence is not violated.

People don't like people when they are not sure about them . A person has to be white or black , not grey . that's one . Secondly , they don't know what it exactly means . Unknown=unloved
49. To#46 to charles
(08.08.10)
I give up.Jews have free choice. If this is your choice,i am sad for you.Charles,is Chaim your jewish name?Just curiosity.
50. 49 , No Chaim is not my Jewish name
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.08.10)
My father ZL wanted to give me his father's name as an official name , not accepted at the town hall [ names then had to figure on the christian calendar ] so he said : Charles . Today , if a Jew brings a paper from the Rabbanut , telling a name is a Jewish one , they accept it as official name . No need to be sad , i'm happy as i am , a 100 % Jew , but atheist .
51. 49 is from thinkagain
thinkagain ,   jerusalem   (08.08.10)
52. 51 , i was sure about it
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.08.10)
Why don't you write : Yeroushalaim ? Have you already volunteered to take care of children ?
53. To#52 why not Yeroushalaim?
thinkagain ,   jerusalem   (08.09.10)
Because right now i write in english. Now about volunteering, don t you think that i am the wrong person,to volunteer for children s care.I might try to brainwash them, and this time might succeed (convincing them, that jews feel happier with jewish beliefs).
54. There are other Jews who write
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.09.10)
Yeroushalaim . I do it also sometimes Volunteering ? you can do it in religious or charidi places . Those poor children are already brainwashed , and so no danger to infect Good Israeli children then .
55. For what are you voluntering,Charles?
thinkagain ,   jerusalem   (08.09.10)
56. 55 , think . your words = empty = no acts
Charles ,   Petach Tikiva   (08.10.10)
You are "preoccupied" with the wellbeing of children , only with empty words , not acts .
57. To#56 voluntering
thinkagain ,   jerusalem   (08.10.10)
Any investigation office of your choice, would be a good place for you to volunteer. You would do a very good job. Please let me go ,as you have no valid proofs against me.I appreciate you because you are a straight person. But sometimes you are to impulsif. If you do not want to be hurt,DO NOT HURT!
58. to 57 , the investigator
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.11.10)
I think you would be much better .Remember [ in your 49 ] Is your Jewish name Chaim ? In another tb : do you have Jewish grandchildren ? So sherlok holmes would be a better penname as thinkagain .
59. reinvestigator
thinkagain ,   jerusalem   (08.11.10)
I admit that your strong personnality with two facets(judaisme and atheisme) ,which in my view, are contradictory, intrigues me.
60. To 59 , and you only know a small part !
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.11.10)
So i'll tell you . Since i made Alyah , begin 21st century , i went once to a synagogue in my town : to see how the great one was vandalised some years ago . Then past year for the Bar mitzwa of my grandchidren [ yes children ] and this year for the barmitzwa of another grandchild . Not contradictory at all since i'm a secular Jew . in my library you'll see one Tanach , with French [ 100 % Jewish ] translation , and a marvellous "Serajevo Hagaddah" , a facsimile of course . I found this marvel in a second hand bookstore in Brussels , the owner did'nt know what it was , i knew , and the [ indicated ] price was only 10 Euro . A bargain . i'll tell you some other things about me at another time , then you will be astonished .
