1. Compensate?
Andrew Brehm   (07.27.10)
I think Turkey should make it clear whether Israel has to "compensate" Turkey whenever Turkey is engaged in an act of war against Israel or only when their terrorists get killed in the attempt to enter Israeli territory.
2. & Israel will now lap it up and in turn brown-nose the Turks
technicolor yawner   (07.27.10)
as if 'no harm done, we deserve the punishment, are lacking in dignity, and are the spineless desperados that you portray us as.' Makes me sick to my stomach!
3. Turkish PM Erdogan &AKP are PRO-ISRAELI, friends of Zionism
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (07.27.10)
PM Erdogan's all anti-israili talk oriented toward domestic votes, Otherwise PM Erdogan has not cancelled any Military Agreement with Israel PM Erdogan and his close affinitiy especially businessmen supporting AKP are all pro-Israeli, friends of Zionism.
4. This is all a FACE SAVING excuse to
Israeli 2   (07.27.10)
to avoid Lebanon also being knocked down by Israel. Cowards are cowards and remain cowards. Not Libya, not Iran, not Lebanon, not anyone will dare challenge Israel as did stupid Turkey.
5. Erdogan's oposition is high in the matter
Omri ,   Israel   (07.27.10)
I smell turkish officers in work. Bless those brave men
6. Let Turkey announce it publicly..
Oren ,   Tel-Aviv   (07.27.10)
That they want good relations with Israel and support our historic right to our homeland for the Jewish people. Otherwise, they should suffer the consequences of their actions.
7. Once bitten twice shy.The Turks have
Eric..... ,   Israel...   (07.27.10)
learned there lesson, you dont screw around with Israel.
8. Why are so many talk-backers negative?
michael redbourn ,   Arad - Israel   (07.27.10)
And I don't just mean talk-backers to this article. Maybe it's because it's so easy to write negative stuff and everyone can do it all day long with ease? I am by no means naive, and am far from being a leftist (I voted twice for Lieberman) but when I read this article I felt that the change was positive. Turkish politics are extremely complicated and its leaders have to play to all kinds of audiences, plus there are elections coming up and Erdogan's reelection is by no means assured. Why should Turkey announce this change 'publicly" ? To satisfy some ego somewhere? Michael
9. Or alternatively...
Talula ,   Israel   (07.27.10)
Turkey's tourism is suffering because Israelis have black-listed it as an Israeli hating nation of misfits.
10. Thank David Cameron
zionist forever   (07.27.10)
He is working to get Turkey EU membership so now Erdogan needs to tow the line look like a moderate not the hard line islamist he has become. The last thing the EU needs is Turkey, a country that certainly has no right to be in NATO. If your a member of an EU member state I urge you to write to your MEP let them know your against Turkeys membership into the EU. Turkey isn't even part of Europe so why is the EU admitting non European countries?
11. Turkey
Murat ,   Ankara   (07.27.10)
Not only utter lie but also ridiculous!!
12. Exactly, #5
Cameron ,   USA   (07.27.10)
Sounds like Washington & the Turkish military are finally starting to jerk the leash a bit on that boy.
13. funny part is
turk ,   ankara/turkey   (07.27.10)
"According to the officials, the change in Turkey's policy stems from its understanding that the crisis with Israel has damaged its image, as well as its ties with Washington and Europe" let me tell you whats gonna happen after the elections when AKP win they hopefully will close the embassy in tel aviv and be done with it
14. Turks are getting it
M Carr ,   Baltimore   (07.27.10)
This article is wonderful news for the civilized world. It is a clear sign that the Muslim/left is finally catching up to the rest of us. The blockade buster movement has outlived its usefulness and is fading away. If the Muslim/left were confused about the implications of violating a naval blockade, I think the Mavi Marmara incident has cleared the matter up. The Turks are correct in their assessment on the usefulness of further “flotillas”. What is there to gain by the Muslim/left declaring their intentions to sail through the Israeli naval blockade to dock in Gaza only to end up everywhere but there? These repeated PR failures only make the Muslim/left appear fanatical, incompetent and weak
15. NAIVE! I am sure ISrael will fall for it-simpletons
Yaakov ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.27.10)
Turkey wishes to keep a low profile only for 2 reasons 1) Its standing and receiving of aid in the international community 2) It wishes to use islam's Taqiyyah (deception) in order to improve its relations with Israel only because it is a valuable source of intelligence including IDF's military tactics, technology etc.. that can be passed on to their AXIS(Syria, Iran, Lebanon (read Hezbolah) friends. Erdogan's radical Islamist party is known for what it is. He also hurt Turkey internally by replacing qualified heads of Army, departments (of Education etc..) with Islamists instead of professionals. TUrkey will slowly degrade (but not too fast and not enough) Another violation of ISrael was giving Turkey our Drones and training them. Now not only hateful Turkey has our technology but you can bet Syrian, Iran and Hebzbollah are reverse engineering one of them. Meanwhile, these drones are used to slaughter the Kurds (PKK) who are fighting for their freedom. Turkey, Iraq, SyriaIran are occupying their country. Now, we are responsible ;-(. maps are here: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/war/kurdistan-maps.htm
16. Turkey is beginning to pay the price of its idiocy so
Markus ,   Germany   (07.27.10)
it wants the whole mess that she created to go away. Yet, we, Europeans and they, the Americans and Canadians can't forget what Turkey has done. We must therefore re-consider Turkey participation in NATO - its either a collaboration with Iran and Hamas or with NATO - and we have already mad our minds that Turkey's place is not in Europe, certainly not in the foreseeable future.
17. tayfun Murat and Turk
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (07.27.10)
Three Turks here commented and gave three different view of AKP and its policies. One of you believe AKP is Israel's best friend the other is saying that it is only temporary takkiye and once the elections pass they will close the embassy. One thing that I know is that if the Turkish voter allows Erdogan's bus to keep on running to its destination after the next election (considering that all good military staff is now incarcerated at Silivri and can not get promoted next month) that bus might end up approaching its destination which is not much different then Iran. So good luck to you.
18. Flotilla
Steve H ,   US   (07.27.10)
Obviously Israel i commandosgot defeated by a few activists with clubs knives and slingshots. The action against the commandos was stopped by the other activists ont he ship. Hamas is in place, Hezebollah stopped the advance into Lebanon. Only over the top action, deemed war crimesby many, could keep the IDF advancing in all of the recent wars, skirmishes has proved to be decisive in all these actions. Where to now Israel. Die the death of a thousand cuts? Stop settlements, war and occupation. And live in peace. To those Zionists who challenge this by saying "come and try it"I say can you live in a state of perpetual war for an ancient right G*d gave you for ever? Maybe so. Good luck.
19. to esteemed jwish friends
endtr ,   turkey   (07.27.10)
Hey guys, what an arrogance do you have. we, as turks, have deep roots lying to ancient civilizations and empires, not a tiny state like your state. Are you hoping a victory by making enemies all over the world? No nation could resist such a hate. You are getting huge hate from the world. Hey guys dont confuse us with other arabic countries. We ruled out the world over ages. And we've started to do it again. Lastly i hope peace for everyone.
20. endtr from Turkey
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (07.27.10)
Let me start by saying that Israel and Jews also have a deep rooted civilization going back about 5000 years. Unlike Turkish civilization that started in central Asia and moved west by Atilla The Hun and the Mongols by attacking, pillaging, conquering and even stealing lands that belonged to others, Israel and Jewish civilization started in today's Palestine and is still there. Now let me explain a little about the part of conquering and even stealing lands that belonged to others. Asia Minor or Anadolu as you call it when you dig in the west it is all Greek civilisation. Efes, Milet, Troy, Didim, Aspendos, Bergama, Aya Sofia etc. When you look at the north it is also Greek Pontus, the east is Aramenian and Kurd civilization. But there is also a big old building in Istanbul's Bankalar caddesi that used to belong to my family. It was confiscated or rather stolen by the Saracoglu government under Varlik Vergisi. On the other hand, everywhere you dig in Jerusalem and the surroundings you see Jewish civilization, the wailing wall, the tomb of Rachel and other tombs, the Massada all Jewish history. And finally we all hope that peace will prevail soon.
21. #13 - not likely to happen but if...I'd give it to the Kurds
William ,   Israel   (07.27.10)
Let the Turks go home and act like Islamic racists (to the chagrin of many Turks who prefer the more coexistence, secular model), and we'll give their embassy to the Kurds or the Armenians. No problem there.
22. Flotillas were never meant to help Gazans, only Hamas
William ,   Israel   (07.27.10)
and the organizers stated it as such. All of them knew the materials (claimed to be humanitarian aid) was basic stuff that is already a plenty in Gaza and was never needed in the first place. They admitted the flotillas were meant to bolster Hamas and break a legal war-time blockade to allow free movement of all items (including weapons, people, cash, and materials for bunkers). Nothing new there. Neither was the racist leanings of the organizers who could care less that Gazans' lives and futures are being placed on the line to meet their anti-Israel agendas. Shame!
23. #18 - the words of a defeated mind
William ,   Israel   (07.27.10)
Hahaha - every time something happens that the Left or Arabs dislike, they claim the "IDF were defeated", "they cried like babies", etc. in order to make themselves feel strong and better. It's a sad psychological disorder based on delusions and ego-centric fantasies. That's ok. Believe as you wish. The truth is - the message got across, and whether its some Islamic racists on a flotilla or Hizbullah terrorists, both have stopped their activities against Israel which you claim is "defeated". I believe if some police officers entered the same situation unarmed as these commandos were, the result wouldn't be any different. And video proof has shown, the activists did nothing to stop the violent terrorists among them, especially the ones who used guns against the Israelis.
24. #19 - Polls show much support for Israel in the world
William ,   Israel   (07.27.10)
Though you wouldn't see that covered in BBC or Al-Jazeera. You also have many Europeans watching Turkey nervously and passing laws to stem the racism and violence many Turkish immigrants brought to Europe. You also wouldn't see that covered by the BBC and Al-Jazeera. You live in a fantasy land, my friend. Though you were a major empire in the past, you hubris caused your downfall and your empire rested on the bones of millions. Just as the Romans did. Today, you sit on occupied land in Cyprus claiming it as your own because some Turks lived there. No more valid than Israel claiming parts of Turkey were a Jewish majority live. Don't forget, Persia also ruled a large empire. So did the Arabs. Both are *poof*!
25. #20 David
Emre ,   Istanbul   (07.28.10)
Stealing land sentence reminds me something !
26. Turkish Perfidy
Alex ,   Tucson, USA   (07.28.10)
Regardless of any re-evaluation by the Turkish government, recent events have revealed the true face of Turkey. It is a country that can turn on a dime against longstanding friends and allies for perceived short term gain. It rejects the wise Chinese saying that "Old Friends will always need Old Friends." It can never be trusted. Unless Turkey apoligizes, let Israel take the initiative and break diplomatic relations in response to the filthy curses hurled at Israel and the Jewish People. Self-respect must take precedence here.
