i wish i was an iranian wallahe if i had an 8 year old daughter i would give her to our leader ahmadinajad believe me
2. Sorry can't afford to wait!
Ben ,   Chutz l'aaretz   (07.29.10)
Analysis is likely correct. If all things stay the same, Iran as we know it now will undergo a revolution. However, the conlusion is flawed in that we need to avoid attacking Iran for fear of uniting them. Attacking the Jews is unfortunately a tried and true approach for uniting people under despots and dictators. The Iranian junta is likely to precipitate an attack on Israel if for no other reason than to solidify their crumbling control. We are not dealing with rational people, we are dealing with desperate power hungry ideologues with no respect for human life, not even their own. Israel and the rest of the West do not have the luxury of waiting for the natural course of events to take place. As appealing and so much cheaper as impacts to the world it would be, hoping that we don't get Nuked by the mad mullahs before they get brought down by their own is suicidal.
3. Wishful thinking
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (07.29.10)
The people in North Korea are eating grass and leaves and there is no end of the regime to be expected. And, by the way, regimes on their way down tend to act irrationally (i.e. start a war that is their end and the end of their adversary).
4. #1 rashid

Then go to the next embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and say that you want to become an Iranian citizen. Where's the problem?

6. The nuclear bomb threat
Wade ,   NYC US   (07.29.10)
does not diminish as the regime destabilizes. (agree with #3). Iranians of all persuasions will see the weapon as their legacy. We cannot predict whether the future regime(s) will be responsible custodians of the bomb. For sure they won't be admirers of Israel!
7. Hope & the frightening gamble of Guy Bechor
Joe ,   Canada   (07.29.10)
In spite of all the assumed elements of decay of the regime that the journalist describes he recognizes he has no clue as to when the it will colapse: "It will happen now or in a few years, yet the direction is clear". Can he forecast what the fanatics in Teheran will do in the intervening "few years"? Does he know when Iran becomes nuclear? Napoleon may have been right in his time but he was not facing nuclear anihilation. Hope, reliance on analyzing the expected outcome of flawed intelligence, neglecting the unpredictable nature of irrational zealots, all this & more is extremely dangerous. You don't let a rabid dog run wild in the hope he will be taken care by other animals of prey.or will die of hunger.
8. Expected humiliation of the decaying regime...

Johnny ,   Nazareth   (07.29.10)
You love Iran because since the revolution that they're shouting "death to Israel and death to USA" ,after all many would think that Iran as an islamic state would support their brothers in Gaza, this is totally wrong. Iran supports Hamas because they're fighting Israel, not because they are muslims. Iran are shiia, most of the arabs in the middle east are sunni, for the sunni shiia aren't muslims and vice versa. The sunni's greatest clerics believe that the shiia must be killed. When the shiia pray, they start their prayer cursing Aisha, which is considered the mother of all believers for the sunni. As the article stated the are lots of sunni in Iran, but they are a second grade citizens, allies of AL-Qaeda fighting Iran. So Rashid yes why not go and join your brothers of al-qaeda and fight the shiia unbelievers.
10. Wrong conclusion.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (07.29.10)
There is a great deal of turmoil in Iran, this is true. So far, the best accounts I've read are by Mr Michael Ledeen, the blog is called Faster Please. Turmoil notwithstanding, the regime is not about to collapse. The monsters that run Iran will use any necessary level of force to stay in power - intimidation, imprisonment & torture, & outright mass murder. If anything, the instability makes the regime even more dangerous. Their bizarre ideology makes deterrence or foolish ideas of containment just wishful thinking. Military action is the only realistic option to stop Iran's nuclear program. There is a great deal of support for an Israeli strike - many members of the American Congress (Republicans) support Israel's right to use any means necessary to stop Iran. US public opinion is also favourable.

13. Sanctions, sabotage, regime change vs. strike
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (07.29.10)
An Israeli strike on Iran's nuclear project couldn't be comprehensive; Israel simply doesn't have the resources. And it would therefore leave the IRGC, Basji and conventional forces intact. Leaving both the instruments of repression and retaliation intact. Hardly seems a winning strategy. Absent serious sanctions, Israel and its allies have had to work beneath the radar. A number of "accidents" have hindered, but not yet crippled, the nuclear project. But there's yet more to do, and only now are the laggards starting to take the Iranian threat seriously. It took 70 years for the Soviet regime to fall. Given the hold the forces of repression have not just on the polity but also on the economy, the regime could hold on for years to come. So Israel needs to be ready in case the threat becomes not just real but immediate. Until then, it's not for Israel to pull the world's chestnuts out of the fire.
14. Perhaps people here need to be reminded of the 80s
Arash ,   Tehran-Iran   (07.29.10)
You see, back then too there were talks(out of naivete)that the regime will go in no time, their time has come and etc. Guess what,in one week alone,we got rid of,if I'm not mistaken 20,000 of those people and made damn sure no one would ever talk rubbish again. It was a step needed to be taken to make the so called opposition realize where they stand. The Green's are absolutely in no position to make demands. They have been defeated and lost the streets. The rest are either in Europe or (mostly) in the US and have really no chance of winning a fight withing the borders of Iran. In short: Don't delude yourself about an upcoming revolution. This would only make us laugh and laugh hard.
15. To No.2, Ben, You are completely right...
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (07.29.10)
Irans ILLEGAL nuclear installations must be taken out in advance of the mad mullahs demise, otherwise Israel would take the risk of an atomic assault on its territory...!!! TAKE OUT IRANS ILLEGAL NUCLEAR INSTALLATIONS NOW !!!!
16. To No.10, Terry, You made the right
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (07.29.10)
conclusion...!!! IRANS ILLEGAL NUCLEAR INSTALLATIONS MUST BE TAKEN OUT...........SOON...!!!
17. But aren't they largely antisemitic?
Samuel Prime ,   Canada   (07.29.10)
If the vast majority of Iranians are antisemitic (including reformers, conservatives, or whatever), maybe they deserve such an oppressive regime. I find it difficult to feel sorrow for such a people, I'm afraid.
18. No. 17 Samuel Prime
NYC Girl   (07.30.10)
Actually, many Iranians (I don't know if you can say it's the vast majority or not) are quite kindly disposed toward not only toward Jews, but Israel as well. And they're also surprisingly pro-American. Apparently, this is a result of their feeling that if the regime (which they detest), accuses America of being the Great Satan and Israel of being the Little Satan, there must be something good about both countries. Not only that, but it appears that their positive feelings go beyond the well-known Middle Eastern cliche that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."
19. Arash @ 14, I give Ayatollahs/Ahmadinejad rule to end
leo ,   usa   (07.29.10)
no later than next Iranian elections. Am I wrong?
20. Samuel Prime @ 17, why do you think Iranians anti-Semitic?

21. to #14 Dont be so sure.

In the 1970's I was a teenager. One time at dinner my dad said to me that someday the people in Russia will get sick of it and bring down the Soviet Union. I scoffed and said, no way, it is the second superpower. It could never happen. Well, my dad was right, so I have learned- never say never. Many dictatorships have fallen. The USSR fell when there was no food in the shops. When Iranians get hungry enough they will bring down this evil regime. Then the west, including the USA and Isrel will rally to help them.
22. Dying days of the regime
Mr Green ,   Manchester   (07.29.10)
So many signs everywhere of the beginning of the end Iranians have had their fill of Fascist Dictatorship masquerading as the worlds first Theocracy This experiment has failed miserably and dashed the hopes of millions because Ah MAD inejad has not learned from the demise of Communism - you take away freedoms and sooner or later the people will bring the walls of the system to come crashing down And as Ah MAD inejad feels the rumblings of discontent so the actions of the Secret Police become more violent, extreme fanatical and terrifying Do you think this rotten to the core regime will withstand the might and power of the silent majority of the Iranian people? Iran deserves better....
23. Mmm - exactly the point...
Mr Green ,   Manchester   (07.29.10)
If your rantings are anything to go by - that only you and your kind have the right to express and trumpet Ah MAD inejads views and all other views have got no place in your world is it any wonder that the majority of Iranians see this wicked and corrupt and morally bankrupt regime as a complete failure? Come on Arash - look around you - is this the Iran you wish for your children and grandchildren? Iran deserves better

Mr Bechor is wrong,Stalin ruled Russia till his death, without asking for the support of the students, merchants, and religious clerics, anyway they were all screaming as loud as they could:Long live Stalin, the man who freed Russia from tyrany was Stalin himself,by dying, the only people who could bring down Iran are the Saudis,Saudi Arabia in the eighties, caused the colapse of the soviet Union by lowering the price of a barrel of oil to $10,this is the only way to bring down this crazy regime,otherwise,10-15 years from now Iran will threaten the Saudis :surrender,or we will nuke you.
29. To NCY Girl and Leo
Samuel Prime ,   Canada   (07.30.10)
My comment was based on my experiences with many Iranians (of course, not all, like Bahais who love Jews) who said insulting and prejudicial things about Jews -- e.g., that they are 'unclean,' 'crooks,' etc, quite like how many Arabs demonize Jews. No surprising since there is prejudice in Islam toward Jews from its beginnings. So, NYC girl, with you and other Americans they could easily give you their politically correct sides, while between themselves and back home they spout their prejudices against Jews -- that has been my experience. They are very good at pretending and being dishonest. Yes, they can be pro-American, but still be antisemitic. You never hear anything positive toward Israel from them as you would hear toward America, which is a result of their deeply ingrained prejudices against Jews (not Zionists, but Jews).

the neo-con-artist had been the one who produced Ahmed Chalabi's so called "evidence" of Saddam's WMD and got us in the Iraqi mess - This traitor and the rest of the neo-con-artists should be sharing Pollard's address. "Military action is the only realistic option to stop Iran's nuclear program"
