1. It is about time to teach Hamas another
Vardina   (07.31.10)
lesson, this time by a radical stirke which will result in setting Gilad Shalit free, without hesitating about winning; this time with real military professionals, unlike Ehud Barak.
2. Empty buildings,fields...???
Malone ,   Hfx   (07.31.10)
Hurt these people...stop worrying about world opinion...
3. It's about time.
emmess ,   Niagara, Canada   (07.31.10)
It's about time. There is no justification in absorbing rocket fire without retaliation and in the case of deliberate attempted murder, as practiced by the denizens of Gaza, retribution ten fold is the smallest price.
4. I'll bet the Palestinians want world sympathy
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (07.31.10)
Sorry, not from me! Again you commit a "war crime" and expect NO response from the IDF. Oh well, you can always fall back on that tired and worn excuse "disproportionate force". Gen. Colin Powell in Gulf War1 used the doctrine of "overwhelming force" to win that war. Israel has the same right! There is nothing wrong, illegal or immoral to take defensive action to protect your population. Next time I suggest pick more targets and much harder. The price must be high, it's the only language Hamas and terrorists understand. The proof: After the IDF operation "Cast Lead' terrorist attacks while NOT halted, were vastly reduced. BTW the blockade everybody complains about, has not prevented Hamas from rearming and getting bigger rockets. As we see here: http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A//www.paltoday.com/arabic/News-64161.html&hl=en&langpair=auto|en&tbb=1&ie=windows-1256 there is no shortage of food, clothes, toys, candy or anything else. Well let me correct that...or add to it I guess..there is NO SHORTAGE of BS from the Palestinians. Just the TRUTH, that is the only shortage in Gaza, BUT I CAN CORRECT THAT. No thanks necessary, I'm glad to help correct the record.
5. pre-empt
alan ,   texas   (07.31.10)
Pre-empt arab attacks. Be proactive not reactive. attack all known terrorist facilities and infrastrucyure, NOW!
6. Bombing the Gaza Targets
Calyxcrater ,   Vancouver,Canada   (07.31.10)
Bomb Haniyahs house, preferably with him and his family in it. When he rebuilds bomb it again
7. That's it? Wow very weak strike.

9. Hamas...if you live by the sword...
BJL ,   usa   (07.31.10)
You will die by the sword.
10. response should be minimun of ten
Barney ,   USA   (07.31.10)
bombs for every rocket. hey, the new mall would have been a great target. better yet how about ten targeted responses and ten random rockets. sooner or later( though i admit they are very slow learners) they will get the message that there is a price to pay. this doesn't mean they won't be willing to pay it because they seem to thrive on misery but atleast they will think about ten seconds before they fire off the next rocket.
11. gazans love to be fake victims. NO, you can't try to kill
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (07.31.10)
Jews and live in a glass shack.
12. Seem to aid the radical group by getting IDF to hit Hamas
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (07.31.10)
The radical group firing these rockets, likely want to hurt Hamas as much as Israel if not more, so this is win-win for them and both Hamas and Israel lose. Israel in away is a terrorist by bomb people who likely had no part in these rockets but Israel must do something or it will look weak and bring more rocket attacks.
13. "Mommy, Palestine hit me again, so I hit him back!"
E. Peres ,   Jerusalem   (07.31.10)
this is all very personal...the Palestinians blasted the Israelis with Grad Missiles in the morning thereby waking them up... so the Israelis respond in kind but with greater boldness for we have attacked at night thereby depriving the Palestinians of a good night's sleep! Bouyah! ...and now we wait for the routine outcry against us! and so it goes!
14. Israel is way too nice with their neighbors
Mike Townsend ,   FL, USA   (07.31.10)
You're the only country I know that will tolerate thousands of bombs launched into your country, tolerate plots to destroy you, and yet still seek approval from the US to defend yourselves. You are our closest and most respected ally in the Middle East. Who cares what Obama, Europe, (and the rest of the whack jobs that seek nothing but your destruction) think. Even though Barak Obama is anti-Israel, Americans are not. Obama and his Israeli bashing will soon pass. I think more Americans would respect Israel more if it grew a pair and was done with this surmountable problem before you once and for all.
15. IDF - Doesn't Matter Who Did It
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (07.31.10)
I'm surprised that a school wasn't flattened. Since the IDF apparently didn't care who did it as long as somebody died and a lot were injured in response to the rocket. And apparently neither do most of you talkbackers. 14-Mike Townsend - What is the count of IDF bombs in Gaza just for the past year? Thousands? Tens of Thousands? I know, its terrorism when a rocket hits the desert and a scorpion dies, but its self-defense when a child in Gaza dies, right?
16. How wonderfully proportional.
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (07.31.10)
17. #1-14
observer   (07.31.10)
are #1&2 also American Jews?
18. Here's an idea
Californian ,   San Diego, CA, USA   (07.31.10)
Israel, here's what you do so that you can't get accused of having a "disproportionate response." Fire rockets right back at Gaza civilians. Pack the rockets with screws, nails, ball bearings, razorblades, and rat poison for extra casualties (an old Hamas/Islamic Jihad trick). That way you can't get Goldstoned any more than the Palestinians.
19. Very well done...
Jonathan   (07.31.10)
Though we could have used the tour to bombard 5-10 sites. Next time. In the meantime, I am sure that the UN is already "phrasing the condemnation of Hamas" and they are going to vehemently object to Hamas acts, it's just that they are delaying it a little bit (e.g., by about 10 years time)...
20. #15 - In other words...
Dan the Jafa ,   Auckland, Aotearoa   (07.31.10)
...you deny Jews the right to defend themselves? How evenhanded of you.
21. to #5 alan, texas
Ariel ,   Modi'in, Israel   (07.31.10)
Don't worry it will be coming, in time!!! The terrorists in Gaza are just being given enough rope to hand themselves and Israel will press the button when the time is ripe. The idiota don't understand that when you play with fire you get burned and they never will understand it because they are incapable of the mental abilities of understanding.....
22. #15 Does Hamas Care?
Cynthia ,   USA   (07.31.10)
Hamas is responsible for every kassam and grad bomb fired from Gaza. They bring this response upon themselves and obviously don't care if Palestinians get injured. Go cry to Hamas.
23. I am the greatest COMMATTETA on Middle East affairs
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (07.31.10)
My one full hour Al Jazeera video course on the region instantly certified me as BEST MIDDLE EAST EXPERT ever! BLOODYTHIRSTY SCOT THE ONE AND ONLY OF MY KIND! DALLAS, TEXAS
24. #17 psychiatric ward is waiting for you to return
better observer   (07.31.10)
running away like this one more time is not good for your mental health, you are more confused than ever
25. When you attack the nation-state of the Jewish people,
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (07.31.10)
Israel, know that you'll pay a price for it. Jews, for too long in history, have refused, out of fear, to raise their heads, stand tall and defend themselves. Sadly, some such Jews are still found in the Jewish Diaspora, assisting Mr. Obama's hostile attitude and policies toward the Jewish state. But we, those Jews who have made a choice to live as free people in our ancestors' homeland refuse to be delivered to death like sheep to the slaughter house...!!
26. #17 I ain't no American Jew! I am ISRAELI!
#13   (07.31.10)
It just so happens that my English is excellent! :)
27. To #25
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (07.31.10)
As good as it is to see Israel retaliate when attacked, arrogance can cloud one's perception of reality no less than fear. I suspect that there are just as many Jews in Israel, who are not gung-ho on military actions as there are those in the Diaspora, who feel the same way. Who cares about Obama's attitude. when that of the American people is a lot more important and a much clearer "Hands off Israel" to a few countries, that wouldn't think twice to pounce, if they thought for one minute that there wouldn't be hell to pay, if they did. The motives for some of the support may be a little, well, screwball, but whatever the case is, I wouldn't want to be the target of the rage of a few million Fundamentalist Christians, who see the drop zone for the imminent arrival of their messiah getting trashed and defiled by anybody, especially by heathen a--hats. Muslims and their sympathizers around here aren't as low-key as they are for nothing. They see and hear these good Christians on TV morning, noon, and night and the rhetoric of some of them can scare the hell out of anybody To them,. "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition" isn't just an old WWI song, especially since it was written by a Jew.... If you're worried that Israel will be run over by these guys, take heart! They'll be raptured skyward and out of your hair as soon as the show is over.
28. No, Dan, No "in other words"
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (07.31.10)
It is NOT self defense to kill a neighbors 13 year old girl because her cousin scared your puppy.
29. 15 Cynthia - Apparently You and Hamas and the Israeli PMO ha
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (07.31.10)
You and the IDF and the Israeli PMO don't seem to care who you kill. Neither does Hamas. This time they got a hole in a street. You got one guy, a little girl and an old man among the others. Congratulations. Go dance in the streets.
30. How wonderfully porportional?
Michael ,   Tucson, AZ USA   (07.31.10)
Porportional fighting... brought to you by the same people who engineered the end of the Vietnam War. Noodles, how appropriate a handle; if it was your life on the line, and you had to fight a war, would you want to hope you defeated your foe, or would you want to make sure you accomplished your aim with minimal losses? Proportionality is a myth!
