1. Israelis are Israelis
Zuri ,   Sydney Australia   (08.03.10)
I am shocked to the core understanding the fate of those immigrant children. Any child born in Israel is Israeli and should have all the facilities and equal rights, we suffered enough and we should show the world what kind of nation we are: multicultural accepting, modern, equal, and non- discriminating whether this kids Arab Israelis. refugee from other country, this is not the kids choice- they are ISRAELI kids by birth we must find a better solution.
2. expulsion of children
leslie stein ,   sydney   (08.03.10)
I am appalled at the decision of the Israeli government in deciding to expel 400 foreign children. The Israelis want to have their cake and eat it. If they don't want children of foreign parents living in Israel, they should not have allowed in foreign workers in the first place. In Australia, "dirty work" such as collecting garbage is done by permanent residents. If Israelis wish to stick to "Zionist ideals," they should revert to the pioneering concept of "Jewish Labor."
3. You bleeding heart-hypocrite!
Bob ,   Brooklyn NY, USA   (08.03.10)
Imagine: Thousands of Men , Women and children being thrown out of their homes with brutal force; Military bulldozers razing beautiful communities to the ground; A Government preaching to the world about law and international agreements as human beings are being forced unto buses; expelled from the place they call home and herded into refugee camps... "Just think of the images. Just think of the implications." P.S. Don't feel too bad, they're only "Settlers". P.P.S. Take a look how "compassionately" the author writes about the Gaza "disengagement": "..Then came the Gaza disengagement. Fatah has not recovered from it to this day. Instead of pulling out by agreement with Abbas, you ran away and gave Hamas a gift, former minister Kadura Fares told me. And after that I’m supposed to explain to the Palestinian public that this was not a victory for armed resistance." Who's fate is he bemoaning? The Fatah terrorists organization's! Hypocrite.
4. Donations
zichon   (08.03.10)
Deport the four hundred and forget about donations from the galut
5. Lunatic
Yaakov ,   Jeru   (08.03.10)
This Uri is obvisouly an anti-Israelnik. Instead of mentioning how 800 ILLEGAL children will be given citizenship and only 400 others will be deported...He complains! All 1200 illegals and their families should not stay. Legal immigrants are fine, but illegal immigrants are not conducive. EVERY country has a right to set its immigration policy. Why is israel "racist" when it enforces it and other countires are not? I know refugees from Sudan in ISrael granted citizenship. But I ask who are these non-Jewish illegal immigrants going to marry? Some may pair up with each other...and the others? They can't marry Jews unless they convert then it's okay.. BUt if not it will be unduly hard on them.
6. Strawman fallacy
Yaakov ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.03.10)
Thhis Uri DARES to call this a "zionist transfer" instead of a democratic state exercising its imigration policies (actually going against its policies and granting Israeli citizenship to 2/3s of the Illegals!) Th,e he dares to compare the refusal of Jews to enter the land of Israel by the occupying British to Polish trying to get into Poland or Philipinos entering the Philipines etc... It is a non-sequitor at best!
7. 10,000 from Gush Katif were transfered
Ilan ,   Ariel   (08.03.10)
The argument of morality as judged by PR is the one of choice here, perhaps because every nation has immigration policies. Many much more severe than the ones in Israel. Still I can't see how people who cheered the transfer of 10,000 Israelis legally residing in Gush Katif are so opposed to legalization of 2/3 of these children of illegal migrants.
8. foreign workers and kids allowed to stay
Julie ,   Israel   (08.03.10)
The parents were privileged to come to Israel to work. period. This does not obligate Israel to them and their offspring for the rest of our lives. Thisarticle is written by another clueless anti-Jewish, anti-zionist bleeding heart who has no idea what this country is about.. And I resent the photo of the child dressed up in an IDF uniform to be used as propoganda. Now we will have more non-Jewish citizens, marrying more non Jews and opening more non kosher restaurants, non kosher stores selling traif and bread at Pesach and demanding rights to open shops, trains and buses on Shabbat and moving Israel even further from practicing Judaism in our own country. These parents are ony here to make money, They should be working on making a life in their own country with their own customs. Can we not have one sliver of a place in this world, in our G-d-given country ? The labour party would be be better off in a Goy country. Why do they even live in Israel? They don't like the Jewishness of it anyway and try at every turn to turn it from a Jewish country to a Goyish country.
9. What!?
Arik ,   Israel   (08.03.10)
"Ironically enough, a nation that holds on to a constitutive ethos that sanctifies illegal immigration (the “Ha’apala” – illegal Jewish immigration during the British Mandate)" Are you smoking some heavy crack or something? This comparison is so far fetched I don't know where to begin: -Illegal immigration in the Ha'apala was going towards building a Jewish state. -It's called ILLEGAL immigration for a reason, it's not legal. -These aren't even Jews, who are entitled to make immigration. Maybe we should take in some more "refugees" from a dozen other countries just so we can see how far we can max out our taxes, unless you are planning on paying for all of them.
10. 400 Children
Mark ,   USA   (08.03.10)
When I first read about Israel's decision to deport 400 Children, I was against this shortsighted policy. I have always been, and continue to be a major supporter of Israel. Israel was and is the state for the Jewish people, and needs to remain as such, but she needs to balance the need to maintain Israel's Jewish majority, with government decisions that show Israel in a more positive light. I do not think that deporting 400 children will add much to the demographic problem. There is a word in Yiddish called Sechel. Israel needs to use and remember that word.
11. Deporting Children
Joel A. Levitt ,   Ann Arbor, USA   (08.03.10)
It is nearly universal law among the nations that children born in a nation are citizens of that nation. But, not in Israel, the home of refugees. Instead, Israel has decided to produce 400 more refugees, all of them children, in order to preserve racial and cultural purity. All praise to the Israelis who condemn this decision. The root cause of this criminal decision is, of course, the importation of foreign labor to perform menial tasks. Pinsker and A.D. Gordon must be each dying a second time – dying of shame this time.
12. Kids and Deportation
Moshe ,   Israel Tel Aviv   (08.03.10)
We are deporting illegal migrants with their kids, we are not deporting kids without parents. The same parents who took the law into their own hands, who elected to have kids and then elected to try and force the law to accept them. There is no obligation to accept law breakers, there is no obligation to give work to people who are knowingly trying to evade the law. The greatest of our critics on this forum are those in the USA down under, very few from Israel are saying the Governments wrong. They must go,they must show by example that breaking the law has a price to pay
13. Uri Misgav
Ricardo Macher ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (08.03.10)
You represent who, if I may ask? How dare you compare Jewish immigration to their homeland to illegal workers? You are exploiting feelings of pity and forgetting about "your" (?) country! Ask what they do in USA, Spain, etc. to illegal immigrants. Please Uri, wake up and stop playing the good guy with lots of feelings!
14. SHAME ON YOU!!!
sarah ,   israel   (08.03.10)
Shame on you people- who are talking against Isael; who are more intelligent than the government; who are idiot enough to search/ investigate the roots of this problem; who cannot define the meaning of ILLEGAL and OPPORTUNIST; who are making fuss of this situation.... Come on, in your country where you belong, are they helping refugee people or giving amnesty in a shor period of time (like here, year 2006 and no year 2010?)
15. what!
vic ,   philippines   (08.03.10)
a poor children of God, in the land of where about God started? i dont know how they think of themselves only.
16. #11 False !
Amihai ,   Yesha   (08.03.10)
Get your facts. Only in USA, and even then, it's not as simple, children born can have the citizenship directly. But only in USA, Portugal, GB, and that's all. In others country, being born there can help getting citizenship, but with some conditions. 3 countries out of some 200. But even there, they have a lot of laws again illegal imigration.
17. Crime is that 800 children and their familes get to stay
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & New York   (08.03.10)
Every contra is fighting illegal immigration. The USA has a problem that if a person is born there they get citizenship automatically. No other country offers this, in fact some expressly forbid it (look at Kuwait) and yet Israel is being crucified for enforcing what Arizona wants to do to 10 million people. Get real Israel needs to set up rules and enforce them including a barrier between Israel and Egypt.
18. give them a chance
carlo ,   philippines   (08.03.10)
all countries have an immigration law, but it is good if the israeli government could give them a chance of legality papers so that they can stay; 'cos these immigrant is serving a jewish nation not their country and they would not prefer to stay if they see israel is not a better place for them.
19. Zionist Transfer
Nili   (08.03.10)
They are not Jewish, they do not integrate, and as soon as they have papers they will start importing all their hundreds of relatives (illegally) If we don't stop caving to the PC leftists we will not have a country! You people from other countries are free to take the "poor kids" to your house and support them and their huge families.
20. Birthright???
Michael ,   New York, NY   (08.03.10)
Sadly, in Israel, the key to citizenship in most Western countries does not rest with the State. Citzenship permits are controlled by the Rabbinate who determine who is Jewish, THE prerequisite for citizenship in other than limited circumstances. Since they aspire to exile all those who call themselves Jews, in an image different from their 17th century views .... woe is Israel
21. we depend on them
l ,   tel aviv   (08.03.10)
aren't they here because Israelis can't support their own families/agriculture/construction? this country cannot function without foreign workers. I don't want it to. besides the valuable work they provide (aka taking care of your grandparents and children all week) they dilute the craze of the zionists. Get some perspective. This is become a nightmare state, not a dream. There is internal fighting, extremism, really scary anti-Jewish propaganda in this country that depends entirely on non-Jewish protection, trade, support. Let them stay to keep us in check. I don't like being associated with this and yet this is my country. I didn't make aliah to become an intolerant racist by association. We need them more than we know.
22. illegal
POPPY   (08.03.10)
THE WORKERS COME TO ISRAEL ON CONTRACTS... WHEN THEIR CONTRACT IS FINISHED THEY SHOULD RETURN TO THEIR COUNTRY ALONE OR WITH A CHILD THEY GAVE BIRTH TO IN ISRAEL. THEY ALL HAVE FAMILIES WAITING FOR THEM AT HOME. HUSBANDS, CHILDREN, MOTHERS AND FATHERS. IT IS NOT FAIR WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO THEIR FAMILIES BACK HOME. YES THEY ARE HELPFUL BECAUSE WE OURSELVES DONT WANT THE RESPONSIBILITY TO LOOK AFTER OUR OLD PARENTS. WE FIND EXCUSES TO KEEP THEM HERE IN ISRAEL. IF WE LET THEM REMAIN IN ISRAEL WE ARE ONLY HARMING OURSELVES.. I WANT TO KNOW WHY WERE THE OTHER 400 NOT DEPORTED?
23. THE ILLEGAL WORKERS
TAMMY ,   ISRAEL   (08.03.10)
COME AND I WILL SHOW YOU WHY THE ILLEGAL WORKERS SHOULD BE DEPORTED COME TO WHERE THEY ARE LIVING AND LOOK AT THE CIRCUMSTANCES IN WHICH THEY ARE LIVING WITH THEIR CHILDREN. IT IS DISCUSTING, THEY ARE RENTING ROOMS FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE CUT ONE ROOM INTO FOUR AND RENT OUT ROOMS TO FOUR FAMILIES, THEIR CONDITIONS ARE DISGUSTING THEIR CHILDREN ARE PUT INTO HOME CRECHES, WHICH LOOK AFTER MANY CHILDREN UNDER CONDITIONS YOU WOULD NOT PUT YOUR GRANDCHILD IN THEY ARE BETTER OF AT HOME WITH THEIR FAMILIES. THEY ARE NOT JUST HELPERS THEY WORK AS PROSTITUTES THEY ARE COMING INTO OUR HOMES TO LOOK AFTER THE AGED. THEY ABUSE OUR GRANDPARENTS, TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF THEIR FRAIL SITUATION . MY GRANDMOTHER WAS HIT AND PUT INTO HER ROOM, GIVEN A SLEEPING PILL AND THEN THEY MADE HAY WHILE THE SUN SHONE.
24. More touchy-feely claptrap
Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (08.03.10)
One would think Israel had snatched these kids from the bosoms of sobbing parents and tossed them into a ship cabin, enroute to places unknown. They are innocent victims, yes - of their parents' poor judgment. Israel is not an enormous country of undepletable resources, and cannot afford to absorb all the illegal migrants who either entered the country by stealth, or entered legally, but refused to leave when their visas expired. Enough attempting to jerk the heartstrings, Ynet!
25. Expel
Michael Pielet ,   Boca, usa   (08.03.10)
the author of this article should be expelled. go to south Tel aviiv. the author of this article is a chutzpan.
26. Immigrants
Marilyn ,   USA   (08.04.10)
If wanting to eat meat, then pretty much going through immigrants. It's probably the same thing with furs. Non-desparate people are simply not willing to do the traumatic or really dirty types of jobs. People perhaps would rather die. It's like don't even think about having me work in one of those places-ever- cause it's never going to happen-just for clarification... I'm sure other people could also come up with other examples of jobs that immigrants do that have the potential to just suck the life right out of you, or perhaps even outright kill you, and then some. In the end, we're all connected, and what affects one person is going to affect everyone.
27. Zionist State!!!
jan ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.08.10)
This writer is on drugs and should be sent to Ramallah or Gaza. How dare he address this preci0us country with that kind of hateful tone We all know what he means. We are Eretz Israel the miraculous,Jewish Zionist State, buddy-or were you gonna call us entity like the little Persian.
28. Terminology is a major part of this issue...
PK ,   Hong Kong   (08.08.10)
Don't let these fools change the issue by using languague intended to embarrass and emotionally exploit! I wouldn't even let them use the word "deportation"...repatriation (to their home nations) is how I would term it. This issue is about national sovereignty and the rule of law. The temporary workers, not to mention the illegals, and their children (who should never have been in Israel in the first place) are simply being repatriated to THEIR HOME countries, which are also sovereign nations. They're going home! Other than the US (which enacted the Fourteenth Amendment to the constitution, specifically for the freed slaves and not for illegals aliens or temporary foreign workers), few, if any nations still have birthright citizenship. What's the f%#$kin' problem here? There are plenty of expats here in HK that come over with children and or have them here (legally!) and then go home several years later after their assignments are finished. One more time, what's the f&#$kin' problem? The malcontents pushing this are the ones that should be deported, after being stripped of their citizenship! As an American infuriated by my nation's long festering illegal alien problem, this issue has great resonance with me. Take this Yank's advice and deal with it in quickly, rationally and in a non-emotional way. Otherwise, you may find yourself in the same disasterous position as the US (is in today) at some point in the (not too distant) future. Lastly, this is not about race, religion, ethnicity or national origin. To all, please ensure that comments don't allude to otherwise. Frustration is no excuse for (non-relevent) racist comments. Thanks.
29. PK, Hong Kong
Sarah ,   israel   (08.09.10)
Well said PK, more power to you and your family.
30. Deportation of immigrant children
Barbara G.Rosenberg ,   Stamford, Connecticu   (09.11.10)
This policy makes me ashamed to be a Jew. Yes, Israel does have to answer to a higher authority. These immigrants came to Israel to help built the country and nw are told their children can't remain and are not granted full citizenship. Have these Israelis forgotten where they came from. Did they think about how the rest of the world will view such a policy. Israel, shame, shame on you.
