1. He is highly motivated, a crime to refuse him.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (08.02.10)
2. Let's grow up already
MaMa ,   Ranaana   (08.02.10)
There is no reason why this man should not be allowed to serve.I would hope the IDF was smarter than that and that his age is really the issue not his condition.
3. What is the problem?
jason white ,   afula,israel   (08.02.10)
Most Israeli politicians have no testicle sacks. Brains or honor either. They "serve". As for age? Our unelected "president" belongs in a museum as a specimen. Let the hara-di serve. Make sure they all serve in the I.D.F.
4. Why refuse him?
Reuven ,   Seattle   (08.02.10)
What is the problem? He wants to serve...so let him serve.
5. #3 Jason White - accurate and brilliant
Jew ,   USA   (08.02.10)
6. Something not clear
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.02.10)
His brother immigrated 8 years ago , enlisted and died by an accident . He tells us that he does not know how it happened because : "i was very young" He is now 30 , eight years ago he was 22 . Very young ? There is now a charidi who volunteers to serve , let him do it , no EXCUSES please .
7. motivation and reason
roli ,   miami beach, USA   (08.02.10)
do not always go hand in hand. Just living in Israel and being a kind person he'll do more for the Army, or whatever if it's politics to prove a point. The story here is that he doesn't want to sit behind a desk.
8. Just goes to show you
Benny ,   Gush Etzion   (08.02.10)
Here you have a bona fide healthy Hareidi who wants to be in the IDF and they go and reject him. What do all you Hareid bashers have to say about that?
9. This is much too much information. Let the guy serve!
SDUNC ,   US   (08.02.10)
10. Too old
Damien ,   Tel Aviv   (08.02.10)
He is too old!!!! There is a cutoff age and he is over it. sorry! I have a friend trying to get in the army with no luck because of his age. There is discrimination but AGE discrimination and thats all!! have a nice day!
11. age
ray stuart ,   zurich   (08.02.10)
I was 37 years old and a christian married to an Israeli woman when I was called up to the army OK it was 12 years ago so have things changed??
12. #10 age limit
blash ,   Jerusalem   (08.03.10)
Article claims he is 30. If you want to do a normal 3 year tour, yes you must start before the age of 24, and for that he is too old. But in Israel, you need to serve 1 month out of the year in the reserves until you're 40. Denying him from the reserves is not age discrimination.
13. to 12 , reserve ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.03.10)
But before doing reserve duty , have'nt you to do "normal" service ? How can you do reserve if you are NOT trained ? Don't you need training to use a gun ? drive a tank ?
14. to #13
Lisha ,   Haifa, Israel   (08.03.10)
I know of other over-30 year old men who have been recruited to serve a few months of full time duty followed by reserve duty. They do get trained, they just don't serve a full 3 year active duty term.
15. get over it.
yoni   (08.03.10)
The military doesn't owe you anything. the IDF is not a place to fullfill your dreams, it is here to defened the people of Israel. apperantly the military might think that your a liabilety. if your so eager to serve, go serve in the country you came from, where they might accept you.......NOT
16. 14 , Lisha . That's more relevant
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.03.10)
They serve some months to be trained . Nobody can do reserve duty WITHOUT training . And this was suggested by # 12 .
17. How could he be born with breasts already, as report says???
Justin Case ,   Brasil   (08.03.10)
18. #15 Yoni
Aryeh ,   Bat Ayin   (08.03.10)
You sound like Peres telling the Olim to go back where they came from. In any case this young man came on Aliyah from the USA where the Armed Forces takes anybody and gays are free to be out of the closet, Just be honest with yourself and realize that with all the inflammatory talk and complaining, bottom line is the IDF does NOT really want hareidim!
