1. Deport all of them
Wise Saba ,   Eretz Yisrael   (08.03.10)
Granting these kids citizenship creates a demographic time bomb, deport all of them.
2. GOOD ARTICLE :-) PLAIN FACT OF REALITY
BENJAMIN ,   SINGAPORE   (08.03.10)

...Hate Monger?
5. Zionist character of the State
Michael ,   Haifa   (08.03.10)
In order to protect the Zionist character of the state of Israel, may be we should start by deporting some segments of the Haredi population
6. the many
bob, the builder ,   not shanghai   (08.03.10)
get the us jews to make aliya, that will change demography and marginalize those few hundreds of thousands of migrants to a tiny portion.
7. charedi starving children ?
Avi ,   israel   (08.03.10)
GEE i guess they could always go get a job to support their flock of kids, or will the secualr tax payer foot that bill as usual ?

9. Non contributors commenting
Mark ,   TA ISrael   (08.03.10)
I love the fact that the "non-contributing" members of Israeli society feel sending foreign kids back is best for Israel. The Haredim are, outside of their religious bubble, nothing more than "national squatters" who do not work, do not pay taxes and are supported by the rest of the Israeli tax paying society. They bring their children up with this ethos, who in turn will become "National squatters" The children of the migrant workers see their parents work, see a work ethic and one day, albeit not Jewish, will contribute substantially more than the Haredim children to the national society by being employed, paying taxes and being a part of the Israeli "constructive" society When the Haredim (who have been shown as basically unemployable) actually add something constructive to society and contribute to the growth and development of Israel, then they can stand up on a platform and pontificate. Until then, non-contributors should not have a voice about those who do contribute.
10. Jewish State
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (08.03.10)
The anti-Haredi beat of YNET marches on. Many many Jewish residents of Israel wanted everyone deported. YNET looks at everything that happens to see what anti-Hareidi slant it can find. That being said--I find it funny how some secular Israelis are bemoaning the deportation of SOME of the foreign kids. Here in Israel they feel strong and confident that regardless of how many other cultures allowed in the state will retain its' Jewish flavor. BUT have you ever looked to see where all the seculars who leave israel live? My Orthodox community in NYC ( mixed Kippah Sruga and Yeshivish--is full of Israelis. OUtside of Israel they miss and yearn for the Jewish "taam" --which in the US can only be found in an Orthodox neighborhood. Their presence is so large where i live, that the local Chabad speaks Hebrew--not English. I question--when Israel, G-d forbid, begins to look like the US where are these secular going to turn. Will they be trying to move into Bnei Brak, and Har Nof to recapture the taam that they helped eliminate. What will it take for people to open their eyes are realize that when Israel is like "every other country' it won't be Israel any longer. Once gone it will never again be able to be reclaimed.
11. #1 deportation
Ariel ,   Tel Aviv   (08.03.10)
Shame on you!!! Don't forget what the Jewish people went thru!! The antisemites now have a reason to confirm that we are racist. If you think like that, please just keep quiet!
12. Bravo Mr Yitzhaki
Akiva   (08.03.10)
Couldn't have said it better myself, these children are ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS who would be deported in any country in the world. This must be done to avoid Israel becoming the prime choice for illegal immigration from Africa and destroying the nature and character of the land Hashem has given us.
13. Haredi press praises kids' deportation
Lazerbenabba ,   London, England   (08.03.10)
Yitzhaki's comment that the government fears the growth of the Ultra-Orthodox more than the growth of the non Jewish population. This fear if true is well founded as every aspect of fundamental Harediism is the antithesis of Democracy and tolerance. There often quoted reasons for the expulsion, exclusion and control of conversion to the Jewish faith are examples of the most appalling xenophobia and intolerance. Yes, illegal immigrants should be removed but not for the reasons espoused by the extreme right religious community. If Israel chooses to permit the entry of foreign workers for the economic benefit of the country there should be no retrospective subsequent exclusion from the country especially as they, by their actions participate and adopt the very characteristics of the host country; i.e loyalty, language and even in many instances the Jewish religion. The Haredi hatred of those who are new to Judaism is nothing short of racism and will cause irreparable harm to Israel. The children of immigrants perceive themselves to be of the host country and as they become older will accept the responsibilities that this demands. Does Israel really want to be a nation that has no other form of worship, race or even non belief? The insidious creeping growth of religious intolerance and dislike, even hatred for those who are different will cause tremendous grief to Israel and could jeopardise its future. Does Israel really wish to be like Saudi Arabia, Gaza, the intolerance of the two major Christian communities of Northern Ireland, the political isolationism of North Korea. Many Israelis may believe that I am exaggerating the potential dangers of the Haredi influence but you know what is said about the slippery slope!
14. On the surface, deporting children to their native land
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (08.03.10)
seems cruel. That said, they should be with their parents in their parent's native land. Israel is supposed to be a home for the Jews, not for people who are in Israel illegally and had children.
15. Haredi Anti-Zionists
Lewis ,   Jerusalem   (08.03.10)
Haredim: Are you Zionists? Yes or No? Do you serve in the Israeli Army? Yes or No? If both answers are "No", then leave Israel with these children, because you are endangering the future of Israel.
16. don't usually agree with Haredim...
David ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.03.10)
as a secular, often left-wing Jew, I very rarely agree with the haredim. Here though they are 100% correct. What have we become? A country where anyone can enter illegally or overstay their tourist visa, have a child and then ultimately expect full citizenship. This is what some people on the far left would like. I see absolutely no reason why a three year old child born to parents who entered Israel on a tourist visa, and then stayed, should get residence here. They are in on way Israeli and in no way Jewish. No other Western State would put up with this nonsense. I personally think that letting 800 stay (although the numbers will be far higher) is too many. But hey, its a compromise - I can live with that. The other 400 must be expelled ASAP, but for sure there is going to be trouble here as groups on the far left will no doubt break the law and hide entire families. There is a big difference between being humanistic and being suicidal.
17. Remermber our History !
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.03.10)
How we were expelled from almost every country during those two thousand years .
18. Deportation of kids
Joe Charlap ,   Mevasseret Zion Isr   (08.03.10)
400 children are going to destroy the Jewish character of Israel ????? The paranoia is going to destroy the country much quicker than 400 children. GET A LIFE!!!
19. Israel's Jewish character
Sagi   (08.03.10)
is indeed endangered. It is endangered by the growing number of pagans in our midst who wear black suits and funny hats and instead of acting normal they mumble in a strange language and pray all day long. This is a grave danger.
20. Can we please also
Raptor   (08.03.10)
deport the strangers from Mea Shearim. They pose a great danger to our country.
21. hundreds of thousands
Ido   (08.03.10)
Zionists- who came from where? How many Zionists and Haredi were BORN in Israel- how many have parents that were born in Israel? Some people have very short memories! Zionist from Rumania, Poland, Russia, Europe- well, well, well.... The hatred of those people against anybody who is not pure-blooded Jewish, is really frightening. Is this history repeating itself- this time from the Jewish side? How about just putting the children in a concentration camp? The arguments are purely racist and stink to heaven-.
22. Deportations
Nili   (08.03.10)
For you people who want the foreigners to stay I suggest you house them all in your neighborhoods. I am not haredi, but I resent the fact that my once quiet, clean neighborhood is now skid row. I can't leave my house after dark, or work late--too dangerous. They dump garbage everywhere, relieve themselves next to the doorstep, and that is the good days. They are not Jewish, they do not wish to integrate, but they will bring all their hundreds of relatives into the country once they are allowed to stay. So send in your addresses and let the foreigners stay on your street. And by the way, many of the haredi were here before any of us and the true hassidic groups do not take anything from the state.
23. Noah
Zichron   (08.03.10)
Any gentile who accepts the seven laws of noah and has worked in the jewish state must be granted full citizenship if requested after the example of Yithro friend of the jewish peoples.
24. Have a look at FINN STREET !
Miriam Woelke ,   Jerusalem   (08.03.10)
Every Israeli being so much in favour of the foreign workers should have a look at the Central Bus Station area in Tel Aviv. Finn Street, Levinsky, Bnei Brak Street and surrounding. Only then you are able to make a statement. In FINN you are wanted because you are Israeli and not African. A time bomb is sitting in Tel Aviv, Arad, Eilat and now even in Ashdod. Everyone in favour of a Jewish state has to wake up.
25. haredim
yb ,   boston   (08.03.10)
haredim regretably are the problem in israel not thai workers . theyve alienated the rest of jewry with there strangeness. I do see the hundreds of thousands of christian russian immigrants as a perilous danger to the jewish character of the state even if they serve in the army .
26. Haredim, examine your own righteousnesses
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (08.03.10)
Deportation of children! Totally disgusting. I am ashamed of of the kind of Jews these people are. Hardly an example of Tzidakah, morality or even the spirit of being a good Jew. What message will this face of Israel send to the rest of the world? For sure, most of the population in 1948 arrived illegally, and faced execution and discrimination in their own native country. How quickly we forget, how impious we have become. It is one thing to read Torah, it is altogether something different to understand it.
27. #24 - I'd rather have a hardworking foreign couple...
dorothy friend ,   tel aviv   (08.03.10)
...and their kids next door than a some lazy fundamentalist Jews who don't work and just bring children into the world for me to feed. No contest.
28. Lost it already
Ussishkin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (08.03.10)
We are in big trouble if it's our home grown orthodoxy that cheers this dreadful move.As to the Jewish values of the Jewish state, we lost those long ago. They exist in our fantasies and in the diaspora where because the Jews there are a minority they keep up those values which define them. We are Israelis and defy definition by anyone's values and accountable to no one. The result is where we are today - ready to turn away refugee children for G-d's sake to the applause of our heartless orthodox - forgetting we were refugees ourselves once.
29. #14 Bunnie Meyer look who`s talking
Avi ,   Israel   (08.03.10)
"Israel is supposed to be a home for the Jews" so do let us all know when you will be making aliah ? and apparently california is supposed to be the home of the native american indians, will they be deporting you soon ?
30. Typical Tel Aviv seculars bashing the religious
Akiva   (08.03.10)
Shame for you guys that haredi DO work. Only a portion of the MEN attend yeshiva/kollel all day and none of the women. Many of the men would get jobs if there weren't so many biased seculars such as yourselves. Never mind the fact they are performing a task far more monumental/important than paper pushing - studying Gemora. Deport ALL illegal immigrants and any Tel Aviv secular who says otherwise or spouts anti-semitic nonsense (as we see here) should be locked up also.
