My condolences to his family and fellow IDF soldiers. A brave Israeli soldier and a hero.

Palestinian   (08.03.10)
Then please stop building settlement in West Bank east Jerusalem. I don't think 500.000 settlers live there as a gesture of peace
33. #7 - You are qrong
Madeleine ,   Israel   (08.03.10)
There are some places where the security border fence does actually go south of the border by quite a few meters, due to the topography, as was the case here. This is why there are gates in the fence at such places, to allow our soldiers through. This was all monitered by UNIFIL. Believe me, if our soldiers wanted to get to the Lebanese side, it wouldn't be done so openly, with several IDF vehicles standing by, all in broad daylight. I suppose you are judging the IDF's intelligence by the standards of your poor intelligence. Let's face it, Hizbollah is looking to turn attention away from the UN findings which accuse it of perpetrating Hariri's death.
34. Weakness begets War..you are seen as weak
Al   (08.03.10)
thus you invite war. When Netanyahu that emplty suit folded to Obama and the Un for the flotilla inquiry, that set the stage for todays events. This is just the opening salvo.. Get ready to rumble. Netanyahu is a failed PM..he is starting to make Olmert look like a friggin genius. Ashkenazi should join him in retirement...Usless doesnt even begin to describe this boob.
35. Nate, No one believes your claim ..
Barry   (08.03.10)
that you are not an antisemite or that you have good friends.
36. Nate, your claim that the soldier is..
Barry   (08.03.10)
on the other side of the border is about as true as your claim that you are not an antisemite. That fence does not follow the exact border line but is some meters beyond the international border.
37. Yes....Routine
someone   (08.03.10)
The Israeli forces were busy clearing the erea of plants that were on the Israeli side...as mentioned in this report. This was a provocation by lebanese army, Just having an Al Jazeera reporter says it all.
38. Nonsense
Israeli   (08.03.10)
If you would have read the facts and seen the photos you would have not said those things, Who fired first here? Not israel! As Joao marcelo from response 3 said beautifuly the coincidence of this happening when the Hariri murder investigation is pointing it Hizbulla this happens. as for the rest of your accusations 2009 war was a retaliation after no less then 9 years of rockets fired from Gaza at Israeli southern cities...Where were you then? Why didn't you stand up and demand action then? 2006 war in lebanon was a retaliation of the IDF for Hisbullah crossing the border and kidnapping 3 soldiers , this was done to enable their bodies to be brought home for burial and prevent future incidents of this nature. You no better then any other hater....having jewish friends does not exempt you from your hatred. As you said you are Anti Israeli and so choose to believe what is convinient for you and not the truth as seen in countless photos. I have photos of the Gaza flotellia showing the Turks and arabs on that ship with bulletfroof verst and weapons , that ship was meant to trigger such reaction with violance knowing they would not be allowed to get to Gaza and Break the blockade made to Insure terroist Hamas returns the Captive soldier. If anything you should come complaining to the Roters reporter that took of the blood from the photo of the Israeli injutred soldier after he was beaten and stabbed by those "peace" activists, some of which were interviewd before or known to have said they want to die as martyrs.
39. Really?
someone   (08.03.10)
Really? So you just ignore the Hizbullah kidnapping israeli soldiers before the 2006 war? What about Hizbullah being a terrorist organization killing the president of Lebanon Hariri by orders from Siria? You are just a little antisematic person...no more and no less
40. Lebanese very costly
vince ,   canada   (08.03.10)
What the f... was a Lt.Colonel doing cleaning bushes? The Israeli army's biggest drawback is their naivety.
41. #4 - yet it was the Arabs who always open fire first
William ,   Israel   (08.03.10)
If the IDF "love to kill Arabs/Turks" as you claim, why is it always the Arabs/Turks who launch the aggressions and violence first? The LAF admitted they opened fire first, and the Turk "peace activists" admitted they attacked IDF soldiers first. Same in 2006 - Nasrallah admitted he made the first move - a cross-border attack and kidnapping. Sounds a lot like you are a racist (despite you having Jewish friends. So does A'jad in Iran, dummy) or real trouble in cause and effect. Either way - a waste of time.
42. #1 - since when does LAF tell IDF where to go in Israel?
William ,   Israel   (08.03.10)
It was on the Israeli side of the fence and clearing the area, most likely of mines and other traps Hizbullah laid. You know, like the tunnels and bunkers they built into Israeli territory in order to kidnap and kill soldiers on the ISRAELI side of the border? Since the LAF opened fire first, on only 15 people (not exactly an invasion force), they are at fault. They could have easily called in UNIFIL but chose violence.
43. NATE
Jonny ,   SA   (08.03.10)
Come on out wherever you are and admit that you were wrong .Or are you not a man either?
44. ambush
moron ,   galut   (08.03.10)
condolonces to the families and all of israel--lebanon is a viper's den and military know that ambush is their lifestyle..just look at harari and gemayel-and their endless civil war--i doubt these brave men were not expecting treachery from there but in war one cannot be sure of how and where while the enemy is still alive
45. Lebanon
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (08.03.10)
Lebanon is becoming,Hezballon.
46. don't you ppl learn
Jad ,   around the globe   (08.03.10)
why don't you just sit back and watch some sitcoms! stop cutting bushes :) do your own first! you stiiinnnkkkkk. cutting bushes!!!! you make me laugh. don't you have better things to do? like training in Romania or something? how about some commando real life experience? any boats coming in? walls to build? tunnels? protests? lol... cutting bushes.... the funniest thing i heard today. next time, it'll be flying kites on over the boarder.... IDF Chief: well, technically, the string was on our territory, but the kite was on both sides of the border... it's a pickle i tell yah...
47. O rly?
Jewish Warrior ,   US/Israel   (08.03.10)
WHO lost 3 dead and 5 wounded. WHO had their southern HQ destroyed. WHO had some military posts shelled and flattened. As compared to 1 dead and 2 wounded?
48. #28 you are so right
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (08.03.10)
I never expected you to give such good advice and that I would agree with you. As you say, the IDF is unable to protect its citizens from rocket attack. The only choice is the one you suggest: host Israelis living at the Lebanon and Gaza borders in safe Israeli cities like Ariel, Shchem, Kdumim and Hebron.
49. Lebanese provocation-what a load of Lies
Anonymous ,   TX, USA   (08.03.10)
The weakest army provoking the strongest army in the region...do you really think we are that naiive??? What really happened is that Israeli soldiers made an incursion inside the Lebanese territory...Israeli soldiers regularly do so, there are several reports where IDF soldiers crossing the blue line and kidnapping Lebanese civilians and UNIFIL comdemning those intrusions. What is different in this instance, is that IDF soldiers came accross some Lebanese soldiers that were brave enough to stand their ground, and face that intrusion, to which Israeli soldier responded by opening Tank fire, and Lebanese soldiers responded back, and got some lucky shots like the Lieutenant Colonel.
50. #7 hahaha - your ignorance is staggering
William ,   Israel   (08.03.10)
That's not the actual border fence. There is a fence on both sides to create a sort of no-man's land where the blue line is drawn between Lebanon and Israel, just like between N. Korea and S. Korea. See? Your ignorance showed you for the racist you are.
51. #11 - routine flights necessary because of UNR1701
William ,   Israel   (08.03.10)
If the Lebanese had infact followed UNR1701 and disarmed Hizbullah, over-flights wouldn't be necessary. But as you can see - Israel will not tolerate anybody attacking its citizens nor disturbing its security. And that have that legal and moral right. Even without your blessing.
52. # 4 Again and again
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (08.03.10)
Nate ! Martin Lutter King said : There is not such a thing as ' i am only anti Israel' all anti Israel are Antisemites,do you really love Muslims and Hezbulla,or you just hate Jews ?.
53. Did not learn from the 2006 defeat
IRAN#1   (08.03.10)
Don't mess with Hezbollah.
54. To: No. 4
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.03.10)
The Arabs were the aggressors in each and every armed conflict with Israel. They got spanked by the IDF on each occasion. Got their asses seriously kicked, in fact. It is the Arabs who are bloodthirsty animals. You need look no further than their foul rhetoric, which is full of violent images. They never learn from their mistakes. This time won't be any different.
55. To: No. 28
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.03.10)
You're in for a big disappointment. Hizbollah -- and the Lebanese army -- will get crushed by the IDF. Of course, YOU should start shopping around for a new home. Israel is not about to be dislodged any time soon. But you are. We don't want you in Eretz Israel -- you befoul everything you touch.
56. Photographs Show Israelis On Lebanese Territory
World Citizen ,   the world   (08.03.10)
Quit flying over Lebanese airspace. Quit cutting tress on Lebanese side of border. Cut the trees on your side of border. It's as simple as that.
57. The fence is not a border
Ze'ev ,   Lod   (08.03.10)
It is placed inside Israeli territory...
58. Actually
Jack ,   USA   (08.03.10)
Second thought i actually read the article. Disregard my previous post. i guess israel did have the right to defend themselves in this case.
59. lately, the lethal side of clashes is turned on continuously

60. #57 If The Fence Is Not Border .....
World Citizen ,   the world   (08.03.10)
Why Are Israeli Soldiers Not Walking On Northern Side Of Fence As They Trim Trees? The photograph I've seen shows an Israeli soldier suspended from a bucket-lift so as to keep him from having to set foot on the ground. This would imply that the land on the northern side of the fence is indeed Lebanese. Also the Lebanese have repeatedly complained to the UN that the Israelis were contructing fences on the border on the Lebanese side. This ynetnet article also states that the Israelis had spoken to the Lebanese Army about conducting this operation several days before the skirmish. If this was Israeli territory then why are the Israelis asking permission of the Lebanese to cut trees on their own land? Something doesn't ring true about Israeli claims. The fact of the matter is the Israeli military frequently probes and violates the Lebanese border. They were told not to do it and they did it anyway. Now people on both sides of the issue are dead. It's a sad day for the families of all involved. And it brings up the question. Why would anyone want to live or bring up children in a place where violence is considered the answer to all problems?
