PB ,   Israel   (08.04.10)
A true friend. May this link last forever in spite of the haters' dismay and wrath.
2. I think an investigation ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.04.10)
... by the United Nations is in order. I think if that doesn't work, we should convene a court hearing in The Hague. At a minimum, "Judge" Goldstone should be commissioned to look into the situation. The dead Israeli colonel -- may he rest in eternal sweet peace -- is the victim of a war crime and necessary steps MUST be taken to redress this grievous wrong. At a minimum, his family should be awarded a lifetime pension from the Lebanese government for their egregious and foul aggressive act which resulted in the death of Colonel Harari. Moreover, I think some nation should step up and name a vessel in his honor, which Israel can dispatch on any number of humanitarian-inspired voyages throughout the world. Yeah, folks. That's what it's like. What a whole lot of fun.
3. Will those who jumped to stand with Lebanon now retract?
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (08.04.10)
Maybe hell has frozen over, or pigs or flying. Though initially urging restraint on "both sides", now that UNIFIL has confirmed that Lebanon gunned down an Israeli officer without provocation, even the US has to acknowledge that Lebanon's action was unjustified.
4. To PB,,You need to recheck your comment
Arie ,   BaGolan   (08.04.10)
G-D bless the American people. Unfortunately, they are now ruled by a Jew hating administration whose only reason for issuing the condemnation is their hope of convincing the 70% of US citizens that strongly support Israel that the administration has changed and moved away from its Saudi / Wright /Jesse Jackson overlords. After the mid-term elections, the true face of the Islamist US President will again show his true face.

Joe ,   Albany USA   (08.04.10)
We're a true friend because we blindly take Israel's part in any dispute? That's not a friend, that's a lackey.
6. Lebanon descending again to chaos?
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (08.04.10)
Israel is on the receiving end of more lawlessness from Lebanon. Back in the 20th century the Palestinians and their buddies would attack our northern towns with guns and bombs - the targets almost always civilians. That spilled over into the Lebanese civil war, when the Lebanese butchered each other by the tens of thousands. We made the mistake of trying to police Lebanon, but got out of there a decade ago. Today, it's the Iranian puppets who claim they're liberating somebody or something. The Hezbollah war criminals (nobody doubts that except Hezbollah and the Palestinian whackos who kiss their butts) still rule the south and are still trying to overthrow the government in Beirut. Hezbollah despises democracy, despises Christians and Sunnis (heck, and Jews too, of course), and certainly does not want to be part of the Lebanese army. But Hezbollah got a big smile yesterday - they managed to convince some war monger in the army to shoot at Israel. They got 3 more proud Lebanese martyrs for it. They made themselves look stupid in front of the civilized world after the UN confirmed the Israeli version - the Israelis were not in Lebanese territory. What's there to look forward to? Peace? Of course not, since nobody in Lebanon is talking about peace, only war. Will that get Lebanon or the Lebanese anywhere? No, not really, unless you consider martyrdom to be a goal.
7. The U.S should mind its own business...
Marco ,   Spain   (08.04.10)
The U.S is a war criminal and the biggest human rights violater on this planet. Israel is also a war criminal and is the second human rights violater on this planet. So I guess its twidlee dum in support of twidlee dummer. Birds of a feather....
8. No suprises here. USA always is on the side of AIPAC!
Josh ,   UK   (08.04.10)
9. Hmmm!!!
Sheik Rattle & Roll ,   USA   (08.04.10)
It is clear that the Lebanese military was instructed to target the officers. I say the next time it happens the IDF should take out the Lebanese government. Now that's a tit for tat that would make your enemies think twice.
10. i hope israel can someday treat world with some respect ..
Jalal ,   Gaza   (08.04.10)
i hope israel can someday treat world with some respect .. i mean idf can told (UNIFIL) about their job 2 days before .. that would be more polite, diplomatic and bloodless

15. who cares
lebaneese ,   Beirut   (08.05.10)
let them say what they want .....America should care about america . our air space is violated every single day ..lebanon is a sovreign nation ..not an occupied entity like Palestine . i don't see the state department commenting on that . you fight in a coward way ,30.000 feet up .but when you crossed an inch ,you saw what happened . i hope you guys learned something ..
16. To the average joe, be it from Albany
Igal ,   Israel   (08.05.10)
or elsewhere. You are a lame excuse for an american who can't be bothered by facts.
17. Sarah B #2
Eli ,   Ashkelon   (08.05.10)
You truly are despicable if you think that the death of this brave soldier is a “whole lot of fun”, who are you to say how he should be remembered. You yourself have said on many occasions that the UN is a joke and Goldstone is a selfhating Jew yet you dishonour Colonel Harari with these disgusting ideas that they should be part of an investigation and the family of Colonel Harari should take pity money from our enemy. SHAME ON YOU!

Spoken like a true historic Jew-hating inquisitor
19. #10 ...except the IDF did tell UNIFIL beforehand.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (08.05.10)
And then UNIFIL told the Lebanese army. And then the Lebanese army set up a sniper ambush, brought a reporter along, and gloriously failed to repel an invasion that didn't happen. They did very nearly start a war, though.
20. The Dangling soldier deserved to be shot....
Cali Cal ,   Los Angeles, USA   (08.05.10)
as Israel shoots Gazans who approach the border fence the Lebanese should shoot Israeli's who approach the fence and vice versa. The Lebanese erred by shooting at the observation post. As far as the border fence, why have Israeli territory past the fence? This makes absolutely no sense. Move the fence and then cut the trees as you please.
21. Next time tanks
michael lisle ,   cordova, tn usa   (08.05.10)
Next time the IDF should have tanks in support -- a few HE rounds from the tanks main gun will put an end to this.
22. The US rightly condemns The Lebanese crime
john   (08.05.10)
We all saw yesterday the disgraceful play acting hysteria from some Lebanese leaders, nasrallah , and others spewing hate and threats towards Israel in typical Arab fashion, knowing full well Israel is innocent. The UN and other groups has to acknowledge Lebanon committed a serious and unprovoked attack on the I.D.F
23. Lebanese/Hamas incapable of telling the truth
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (08.05.10)
These are simply PR tactic's to 1) Falsely incriminate Israel by: a) Falsely Stating Israel was on the Lebanon side of the border, according to UNIFIL, the IDF and now the USA, all proven lies by the Lebanese army command and political leadership .2) Lebanon falsely stated, Israel fired first, again, UNIFIL and the IDF say that isn't true, yet Lebanon continues to spread and repeat the false and dis-proven story. Then just recently admitted they did fire first, contradicting their earlier statement that Israel fired first. 3) One of the dead...on the Lebanese side was journalist, indicating possible premeditation by Lebanon...by using first strike and ready to control the spin to the Western Media. 4) Iran is pulling out all the stops to get the real story and question of important, out of the world news. So do you and the world...feel safer with Iran in possession of the most powerful weapons on the planet? And would they share that dangerous weapon with terrorists? Never lose site of those two points. Finally, has Lebanon ever done this sort of fabricating before (using local civilian reporters, working complicit with the army, private citizens and the political Government working, to mislead the Western Media. http://www.aish.com/v/is/91361839.html Has Israel ever twisted the facts for media,in a similar...even remotely? No they have not!!! So that closes the case. Lebanon has to lie to the world to back up their points, while Israel relies on the truth. Truth wills out the end. Sadly it causes many preventable deaths.
24. Inadequate response
Harvey ,   London   (08.05.10)
Although it is understandable not to seek an escalation in hostilities ,it sends the wrong message to these barbarians . One destroyed army post is not an adequate response for the loss of our soldier . The Russians had it right in Grozny . There were no UN investigations and no world condemnation . The Jihadis got the right message plain and simple. There can be no compromise ,no half measures with terrorism . Half measures lead to needless casualties on our side . Forget world opinion .It will not protect Israeli lives. Daniel Pipes states " that in order to win the peace you must first win the war " . Witness the total unconditional surrender of Germany and Japan at the end of WW2 .They are now changed societies . This holds as true today with Israels neighbours as it did 65 years ago.
25. To #20
David Segal ,   Philadelphia, USA   (08.05.10)
I can see it all clearly now: those sneaky Jews placed the fence to trick the LAF into shooting the IDF soldiers in defense of sovereign Lebanese territory. Well, they got what they deserved, eh Cali Cal?
26. To #15...You lost 4-5 men, for what?
James Walker ,   LA,California   (08.05.10)
You lost 3-4 soldiers (depending on report) and a reporter all for nothing. The fact that you don't care about that shows something about your mentality. It's a sad day for Israel because 1 person was taken away from this earth. It's truly eye-opening seeing that Lebanese consider their men cattle who have no value other than "standing up"to Israel. So yes, I learned something. By the way, that tree was razed today.
27. Marco in Spain also called on the world to mind its own
Christopher ,   Boston, MASS   (08.05.10)
business when they bombed the nazis out of existence
28. dann and shtetl jew
moshon   (08.05.10)
Many israeli leaders are unable to move beyond the shtetl jew begging the christian or moslem master for approval. it is true that israel is surrounded by a sea of moslems and smart diplomacy is necessary. but begin made peace because he was bold and also told the world that jews would fight to the finish. Is the jews cannot live here, no one can and arabs understand that very well. But submissive israeli leaders revert to shtetilism. Barak kisses turkey and US ass. Olmert was a total slave and said yes sir to everyone except jews while he was stealing dollars from charities. Livni dances a concession mambo in her twisted delusion that arabs want a state. peres of course is the father of dreamers. Beilin and ben ami were gutless intellectuals. And barak feels bad about killing so has become an olmert pacifist whose military judgement is clouded by cowaridice. Bibi constantly seeks US approval and sweats publically. The laf border post should have been wiped out totally instead of justifying israeli actions. IIDF needs a new defense minister and ehud barak is past tense and should leave asap. Yaalon is far bolder. Where barak was a pathetic wimp in dealing with PLO terror, yaalon cut through it and smashed it. And that's what we need against nasrollah with smart asymmetrics, not sending colonels to death or butchery.
29. #24 HARVEY I AGREE
LAWRENCE RAP ARTISTE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (08.05.10)
But Israels' leaders prefer a knee-jerk ,ineffective ,robotic ,predictable and inadequate meaningless response ,much like bombing empty fields.Better to strike back rarely ,but very very hard. Now THAT is what they call a deterrent ,don't ya think ?
30. #7, unless of course it is condeming Israel??
