Now that Turkey has "tilted" toward Israel's enemies, it's now clear Israel should have been more circumspect in sharing its technology with them. Turkey now has extensive strategic relations with both Iran and Syria, so exposure of that technology isn't a remote possibility; it's a near certainty. Only recently, we've had reports not only that Israeli drones were used in operations against Kurdish rebels - even cross-border into Iraq and Syria - but that Syrian and Iranian personnel were at least present. No doubt Israel's military industries want to keep selling, and Barak and Ben-Eliezer still believe Turkey is a "strategic ally". But they are in denial.

Since this time of greater openess Israel has become inept and incapable of defeating gowing armies of Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. The new and improved Israel can't even free Gilad Shalit from next door Gaza as it's hypes up it's long range possibilities. So you've traded your unbroken record of defeating the enemy for semi-good but worthless in the end PR.

On the other hand, I believe that Mr. Fishman's column is replete with military knowledge regarding Israel and its capabilities; at least it rung true. So I found the article itself quite refreshing. I hope Ynet publishes more articles of this kind. Nonetheless, I recognize that much of the knowledge of Israel's military capabilities and strategies must, and will, remain secret. I also wonder at Mr. Fishman's own qualifications and his ability to source information. As noted, not that I doubt him but could Ynet publish something about that. Much appreciated.

The Israelis are trying for an operational capacity from Romania. With refueling capability it can be done. And the flight from Romania to Georgia is roughly 1000 km. From there to the border of Iran another 200 to 300 Km. The helicopters could operate out of Georgia in attempts to rescue downed IAF pilots from Iran. The question is will the Russians allow you to operate out of Georgia if you attack their ally Iran? Will they let you fly accross the Black Sea to get to Georgia? Sevastopol is less than 50 km from a direct flight path from Romania to Georgia. Many a helicopter and F-16 could "disappear" on a flight over that sea.

Russia seem to be more interested in learning Israel's secrets of radar jamming and anti communication/control system methods. Fooling long range radar systems is key for many of these commando operations to work, also stopping Cell phones/radios from reporting sightings is equal important. Russia is working on new HARM missiles to target radar jamming aircraft and upgrading S-300/500 systems to make it harder for these type of operations and pickup transmissions from unmanned aircraft. Staying one step ahead is costly and getting harder for Israel to do now days.
