didier ,   france   (08.09.10)
We should not talk about religion or politics when dealing with this subject. It 's seems strange that an israeli could write such nonsense since he should know basics facts about geopolitics & arab_muslims way of behaving & thinking..... Many in Israel like this idiot would like to be killed (unconscious),these intellectuals are so stupid that there is no hope till they die in contact with the peace they look for
34. Amnon Abramovich-commentator
Asher Naim ,   Jerusalem   (08.09.10)
Very well written and very realistic. No compromise-No peace and with occupation life in Israel will be Difficult borders with unberable
35. I pity Mr. Abramovitch, but I also fear him
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (08.09.10)
His article shows feelings of deep-seated guilt over the palestinians' situation. If you're reading this sir; I want to tell you that you have nothing to feel guilty about, Israel has done everything it can and more to ease the Palestinians' suffering despite their unwillingness to accept us. I know you probably don't believe me, maybe some-day you will,. In any case, if you I advise you to raise your head out of your mire of self-righteous piety and take a look at your proposal from outside. What you are trying to do is wash away your own guilt with the blood and suffering of Palestinians with the blood and suffering of Israelis. Talk about being cruel and selfish
36. If at first you don't succeed
Danny   (08.09.10)
try, try again? Given what a major security and PR success pulling out of South Lebanon and Gaza was, what is the holdup pulling out of the West Bank. Surely it is better for Israeli security if the majority of Israelis are within range of qassam than Scuds.
37. Does anyone speak Hebrew?
Sean ,   Montreal, Quebec   (08.09.10)
I am trying to determine the veracity of a blog posting by Dr. Stephen Scheinder from Concordia University in Montreal. He posted a link to a YouTube video he claims was from Channel 10 in Israel. It is from the early 90's and Bibi is talking to settlers in the West Bank. I do not speak Hebrew and have had to rely on the English subtitles. Any attempt to post the link on my part has been unsuccessful. There must be a problem with my computer. Robert? Charles? Brian? Salma?
38. Amnon Abramovich.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (08.09.10)
Mr Abramovich is pretty much talking to himself, he represents almost no one, just a few marginalized leftist wackos spouting the same crap everyone sane rejected long ago. He's like a fossil or a man trapped in a sci-fi time warp. Many years ago, people fell for this kind of BS - but that was a long time ago. Reality proved beyond a doubt that this thinking was false, a blunder. Normal people, who base their opinion on reality & evidence, moved on. Mr Abramovich, for reasons only a psychiatrist could explain, is evidently intellectually stuck in a loop, doomed to repeat ad nauseum ideas long past their time. You don't have to refute his ideas one by one, reality has refuted this nonsense in it's entirety. This is not an intellectual arguement or an historical analysis any more, it's a psychiatric problem.

43. Time for Abramovich to retire to Ha'aretz?
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (08.09.10)
I recognize Amnon Abramovich as an experienced, veteran and biased reporter. Normally, he wouldn't dream of presenting a long-winded subject on a tv news report with now substantiation nor context for any of the points he raises. However, we know that Abramovich and other journalists who should know better simply through journalism 101 in the trash when it comes to pet peeves that bug them. This op-ed is no different. Instead of pointing out the stupidity of bad government decisions and the evil policies of our enemies, Abramovich tries to blame it all on "the occupation". Abramovich totally ignores many salient and vital details like Palestinian government policies - both Hamas and Fatah - which for decades excluded peace and a two-state solution. Even today, Abramovich dances around the real withdrawal dilemma of Gaza - withdrawal that will lead to continued and repeated enemy attacks on Israeli civilians. And Abramovich mentions buy fails to discuss one of the key roots of the problem: "The leftist doves believe that a direct link exists between occupation and peace." The problem is that the leftists have a black and white view and say that withdrawal will automatically bring peace. Gaza proved that this is false, yet the left continues to preach the same, warped ideology with no modifications or guarantees for peace built in. Abramovich gives us a very, very flawed diatribe.
44. Good Article.

45. Abramovich et al
Alf Red ,   Londonistan   (08.09.10)
I would hope the Author will be himself thrown out of his comfortable home in North TA or whatever place that may be, so that "next inevitable disengagement" he could fully feel on his stupid traitorous hynd. If this level of idiots you have for your "commentators" - I can feel only sorry for you and for our Eretz Israel!
46. Yet another Journalist for a Second Holocaust !!

Yet another Journalist for a Second Holocaust !! Welcome to teh cluib.
47. Let it begin with Tel Aviv
Nick ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (08.09.10)
Let's exchange the TA metro area for our historical heartland. We should enter into secret Peres-style negotiations to accomplish this.
48. Amnon is right...
Tomer ,   Hod Hasharon, Israel   (08.09.10)
Y'all can shriek and scream, but he's right. The occupation of Gaza was untenable, however much we might wish it was otherwise. It was incredibly painful to leave, but we had to. The same inevitably will apply to Judea and Samaria. We're just prolonging the pain right now. Oh, and all the nasty sniping at the author? This guy fought and was SEVERELY injured in the Yom Kippur war. That gives him a little more moral authority to comment than the pathetic armchair warriors in the US and Europe that regularly spew their bile here.
49. Giving away the land for what?
Seppo ,   Finland   (08.09.10)
I have seen many articles about the necessity giving out the land for peace. NONE of the writers have been able to explain how peace would follow out of it. Simply they cannot. In Arab plans peace will be achieved only when no Jew lives in Israel. This is the basic fact with which Israelis have to live with. HaShem is behind moving all the Israelis to the country, also the leftists, and He said "..they shall possess the land." Unfortunately only very few in Israel today believe that HaShem works today to perform His plan to bring all the Jews back. Millions of American Jews will move back. When, will depend on them, Voluntarily with their property or by force without their property similarly like nearly million Jews came from Arabic countries. Plenty of land is needed. Economic disaster is already visible in the US and Europe because they fight against Israel. It comes from the fact that Hashem's blessing is missing and He lets greed of the people run the countries.
50. Occupation is evil
Rami of nAzareth ,   Israel   (08.09.10)
Israel must do the utmost to end occupation
51. withdrawal inevitable
moron ,   galut   (08.09.10)
like the series of withdrawals and exile are 'inevitable' or why not just call it surrender now
52. Guess again dahling!
tz   (08.09.10)
Guess again dahling....and Amnon, I heard there's some seaside property for sale in Bet Shemesh. You might be interested. Take a look!
53. Mindless. No wonder left is being voted out of existence.
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.09.10)
Abramovich's article is mindless rubbish. No one can rationally portray our Gaza withdrawl as anything other than a complete disaster. It brought us rockets by the thousands, mass terror, flotillas and scourges which plague us to this day. In fact, EVERY single Israeli withdrawl is a complete disaster. There is not one exception. The Israeli left is never correct on any major issue. This brainless article clearly shows why the left is being voted out of existence in the Knesset.
54. Ordinarily, Seppo, I am a secular rationalist
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (08.09.10)
in explaining historical events. However, I am also aware (from my own experiences in a totally different context) that other, non-human factors, also come into play. When I am told that the army's Westpoint Academy does not study the Israeli wars in its sessions on military strategies because it doesn't study miracles and when my son-in-law's eldest brother, a lifelong military man, said that Israel should have lost both the War of Independence and Yom Kippur War and there was no rational explanation for why we won, then a thinking man has to consider other possibilities and evidence. Ergo, your point!
55. Amnon
Michael Pielet ,   Boca, usa   (08.09.10)
Amnon is too biased to be a news commentator. Hezbollah and hamas were created and nurtured by Iran. They two terror organizations were created for the sole purpose of destroying Israel. Of course Amnon has given Hezbollah and Hamas a lot of encouragement that they are on the right path to Israel's destruction. Thank you Amnon!
56. Robert Haymond #54 I can answer the question
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.10.10)
As a veteran of the '73 war I do know exactly why we won the war. It was no miracle at all. We won for one reason and one reason alone. We had no other choice. As for not being able to predict the out come I highly recommend a book written by one of my former commanding officers. Number, Predictions and War by Colonel T. N. Dupuy.
57. Thank you for the reference, Gee, #56:
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (08.10.10)
This is one book I will be sure to seek out. As you noted, we won because we had no other choice. A man fights best when he is up against the wall and is fighting for his own life, his family's survival and his country's. Perhaps I will learn something important from this book.
58. ***disengagement = destruction***
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (08.10.10)
This article proposes the destruction of Israel... (Maybe it's a paid ad from Iran...)
59. Robert Haymond #57 word of warning
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.10.10)
It is a very very dry statical analysis of combat and why one side wins and the other loses. Be prepared for some very heavy mathematical calculations and how they were derived.
