Let him sit there till he takes root! Germany is a good place for him, it seemed to suite the Mufti just fine

Keep it up for the year and not only for Ramadan.

Evidently the guy doesn't have a job. Every country has their immigration laws. And Israel's are far less rigid than, say, Switzerland's or Singapore's (among many others).. German citizens don't need visas to enter Israel - and there are a number of options for continued residence. And what's the problem staying in his beloved Jerusalem for 4 years? Oh sorry... that would mean he would have to find gainful employment - and in Israel the UN welfare agencies won't rush to his rescue.
5. #4 so you automatically assumed that

Max Maier ,   Germany   (08.12.10)
This case and the comments here certainly confirm that Israel justly deserves all the kicking it receives in the world's public opinion again. Someone whose family has lived in Jerusalem even prior to the foundation of the state of Israel should have the right tog o abroad and return to Jerusalem at his discretion. He should also have the right to bring his wife and daughter with him as he pleases. Yet he has to undergo all kind of chicanery while Israel will admit anyone who is a Jew. Do not complain when Israel is being labeled as an Apartheid state.

Israeli civilian other wise he won't make such effort to move to Jerusalem and he would happily stayed on pali side.

Your remarks are totaly wrong. They can visit Jerusalem on a tourist visa without problems. What this person wants is permanent residency in Jerusalem, while residing in Berlin. One must know what he wants in life and go for that. He wants everything and is obviously not getting it.
14. hunger strike
bg ,   jerusalem israel   (08.12.10)
I'm sure he is on the same hunger strike as Marwan Barghouti was on , in prison. It didn't take long for video to leak out of him sneaking breakfast when he thought no-one was looking. This one is likely to be no different. The Arabs have learnt that the West just wants the story , not the truth and if it's against israel, so much the better.
15. What if his wife was Jewish?
George Rushmawi ,   Jerusalem   (08.12.10)
It would not be a problem then!

Arn ,   Yehud   (08.12.10)
Where does he say that his family lived specifically in Jerusalem? If you study the time frames he offers they might well have been living in the West bank, Jordan or even Syria. What you've written was what your biased and demented mind wanted to read. Also Akim is an Israeli charity devoted to people with special needs, so if Akim gave him employment and he met his German wife here he is just a lazy, complaining, ingrate. But now we see he has all the time in the world to sit under a tree (which takes less effort than working) and throw a stone at Israel. People like you #9 instantly "understand" him and encourage him. Betcha his wife is working.

Nili   (08.12.10)
Every country has immigration laws that apply to all. A friend made aliyah from Germany and had to go through a whole mess in order to keep her German passport! When will people realize that just because you want something doesn't mean you are going to automatically get it.
19. Germans and Arabs
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.12.10)
Germans committed the genocidal atrocities of the Shoah and the ancestors of the Germans have persecuted us Jews for the past 1000 years. Arabs have massacred Jews for hundreds of years and want our land. And now an Arab in Germany wants to move to my land! Ha ha! This world is sick! There is a very simple reason why he can't return to Israel: because he is not Jewish, because his artificial "Palestinian" identity" is merely a tool to destroy our national-ethnic identity and because he is hostile to Israel and the Jewish people. Jews have lived in Israel for the past 4000 years. Israel has been under ethnic, political and military Arab imperialist dominion for merely 22 years in the 7th century AD and that makes Arabs think my land is theirs? I suggest that the Arab stays in Germany or that he moves to one of the 22 Arab states. The Arab should stop whining and simply accept that he is not welcome in Israel and he should realize that he has 22 home countries. His whining is the embodiment of Arab imperialism - if Arabs can't have everything, they resort to crying and whining. It's as if the Germans would say: "If we can't kill all Jews and take over all of Europe we are victims." You wanna hunger strike? Be my guest. Drop dead, disappear or just get yourself a life.

Some of the Talkback comments here are stunning. Being flippant and dismissive is easy when circumstances don't affect you or your family. Compassion, however, takes courage. The reality Mr. Maraghy is facing is shared by thousands of Palestinian residents of Israel, whose roots go back here for generations. The hard reality is that even if he had never set foot in Israel, things would be completely different if Mr. Maraghy and his wife were Jewish. They would be invited to make Aliyah and claim the perks of the Law of Return: plane tickets to Israel, a monthly stipend, health insurance, housing and employment assistance, and all the other new olim benefits. When it comes to Arab residents and citizens of Israel, the Israeli government rarely acts due to moral or ethical considerations. Instead, change comes only when there is a risk of negative international PR, political fallout, or a significant loss in funding. Mr. Maraghy understands the way things work here all too well.

I will help you with some logical thinking: Jews constituted the majority of Jerusalem's population as recently as the middle of the 19th century. No "Palestine" or "Palestinians" have ever existed in recorded human history. Jews/Israelis are the natives/the original population/the historical population of Israel and the original, present and only owners. The connection between Arabs and Israel is as strong as South America and Spaniards. Second, the definition of an Apartheid state is a state whose legislation and legal practice differentiates between ethnic-racial groups' citizenship rights and separates them in official institutions and public places. Something like this existed in Nazi Germany. It existed in the USA until the 1950s and the 1960s and it existed in South Africa. But it never existed and still doesn't exist in Israel. More than 1 million Arabs live in Israel with fully democratic rights and full citizenship rights - including religious freedom to desecrate the Temple Mount with their freaking mosque standing on the Two Jewish Temples and they have voting rights and the right to vote for Arab parties and some Arab parties sit de facto in the Israeli Knesset on a daily basis spewing hatred for Jews and Israel. Why does this Arab deserve to be in Israel? Are Arabs the natives, the original population or the original or present owners of the land? No! Not at all! Is the land important to Arabs? No, not at all - they left it to rot for centuries. In the same way as Germans, Russians and the French cannot claim monopoly over Europe, Arabs cannot claim monopoly over the Middle East. More than 1 million Arabs live in Israel. Approximately 1 million Jews very kicked out by the Arabs from the Arab world in the 1940s and the 1950s. Your "concern" for "human rights" is merely a pretext, an excuse to lambast Israel and the Jews and you use "human rights" as a shield against truthful and correct and factual accusations of you being anti-Semitic. Because behind your "concern" for human rights hides the ugly face of anti-Jewish racism. And considering the fact that Arabs and Europeans are Jew haters and racists, why shouldn't we be racists? Your concern is that ONE "Palestinian" can't return to Israel - a land which doesn't belong to him, but massacres and genocide in Sudan, Iraq, Kurdistan, Turkey, Chechnya, Bosnia, Syria and Burma are apparently acceptable. Millions of people have been massacred over the decades, everal genocides have taken place over the past decades, but your concern is ONE single Arab man - a terrorist and a Jew hater, a thief and a liar

Your feeble attempts to justify the unjustifiable are well known, they just don't amount to a reasonable argument for most of the global public, except for the Israelis themselves and their fanatical US supporters from the "Christian" fringe. The Palestinians have centuries of continuous presence in Israel/Palestine, whatever name you attach to them. They didn't drop as Arab invaders through a hole in time from the year 722 into the modern state of Israel. Their right to national self determination on that territory is stronger than the right of someone e.g. from Moldova who has arrived recently and whose ancestors may have left Israel some 2000 years ago (or may have never lived there). No Jew is threatened by the prospect that he may not be allowed to return to Jerusalem if he stays abroad for to long, yet someone whose family has lived there for generations is facing that possibility, just because he isn't a Jew and doesn't have Israeli citizenship. Additionally he faces the problem of having to climb all sorts of hurdles to discourage him from having his wife and child join him in Jerusalem. None of your well known and feeble arguments can divert the attention away from this fundamental injustice.

I'm sorry, did you say "whose roots go back here for generations?" Yes, I believe you did. Prove it. I want to see a deed; not some old rusty key. You are quite a fool, Tzipporah. Thankfully, most Israelis are not quite as stupid as clearly you are.

Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.12.10)
Who made you the judge of men? Why do you assume that your opinions make any difference? Where does your legitimacy and authority come from? You are engaged in European cultural ideological racism - simply because you are "European" everyone is obliged to listen to you and respect your wishes as if they were sent by a divine power. Understand one thing: the days when goyim kill us and steal our land are over forever. Deal with it. They days of German glory days are over forever. Deal with it. Germany is a military midget. Israel is a nuclear power and a great military power. Deal with it. The days of European imperialism and European dominance in the world are over forever. Deal with it. Jews/Israelites are the natives and original owners of the land of Israel. Both according to the Bible, the Koran, Egyptian, Babylonian, Assyrian, Hittite, Persian, Greek, Roman, Arab and Christian medieval sources. Jews/Israelites are explicitly mentioned in Canaanite, Philisteene and Phoenician sources as well. If Jews don't originate in Israel, were do Jews come from? From the moon? From Poland, Russia, Germany or Ukraine, Italy or Spain? But there were Jews in central Asia, North Africa and the Middle East as well. And how could they all have a very common ethnic and religious identity if they didn't have a common history and common origin? Palestine is a ROMAN/LATIN name. Get it? Palestine is ROMAN/LATIN! And there is no letter "p" in Arabic. And Jews are also a separate group of people that has lived in Mesopotamia for at least 2500 years, in Egypt and North Africa for at least 2000 years, in Spain and Italy for at least 2000 years, in despicable Germany for at least 1500 years and for at least 1000 years in Poland and Russia, and despite being a separate ethnic group of people living among other nations, Jews were never granted a state in neither the Arab world (in which Jews have lived long before the Arabs) nor in Europe (in which we have lived long before the emergence of Germany and Austria and other European artificial states). And Gypsies are a separate ethnic group of people that has lived for centuries in Germany, Austria, Poland, Russia and Ukraine and still were not granted an independent state. We Jews have lived in Germany for 1500 years and we were never granted an independent sovereign Jewish state in Germany. What part of it didn't you get? Arabs cannot have lived in Israel thousands of years because Arabs have only existed for 1400 years. Second, they dominated Israel for 22 years in the 7th century AD. "Arabs" since the 7th century AD until today are Berbers, Kurds, Jews, Africans, Asians, Turks, Persians and they are Arabized as far as their language is concerned. The bulk of the "Arab" population today and 1400 years ago was not even remotely Arab! Most "Arab" princes, kings, soldiers and mercenaries were either Turkish, Kurdish or Persian. Any race but the Arabians. Most "Arab" physicians, mathematicians, writers and scientists were either Jewish or Persian, adopting Arab names. You stick to ideology and fantasy and sick and twisted anti-Semitism. I'll stick to facts.

1) Explain to me why the Arab man is a victim. Why is this important to you and what difference does it make and what you are going to do about it. Also explain to me why you don't care about the fact that Arabs have massacred hundreds of thousands of Jews for the past 1400 years? And explain to me why the Arabs that already have 22 states, need a 23rd state, whereas the Jews should bereaved their ancient and ancestral homeland and only homeland? Where exactly is your sense of justice and humanity dear German? And why are you silent when I said that about 1 million Jews were kicked out by the Arabs from the Arab world in the 1940s and the 1950s? And you are not anti-Semitic? You are merely "criticizing" Israel but neglecting the value of Jewish lives? 2) Explain to me what kings, dynasties, language, alphabet, religion, philosophy, philosophers, science, scientists, capitals, cities, territory, borders, neighbours, currency, laws, regulations, music, arts, design, architecture, race, ethnicity and bloodline and kingdom, state, republic, duchy or principality did the "Palestianians" have? 3) Explain to me why Jews/Israelites/Hebrews/Judeans, Canaanites, Philisteenes, Phoenicians, Amorites and the Edomites - meaning the local populations of ancient Israel and the neighbors of Israel that are today's Jordan, Lebanon and Syria NEVER ONCE referred to any "Palestinian" kingdom, state, republic, duchy, principality, tribal society, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, culture, kings or dynasties? 4) Explain to me why Arabs are using a Roman/Latin name? Are they Romans? 5) Explain to me why Egyptians, Hittites, Sumerians, Akkadians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Persians, Kushites, Ethiopians, Greeks, Romans, Etruscans, Byzantine Empire, Arabs, Turks, Mongols and Christian Medieval Europe NEVER ONCE referred to any "Palestinian" people, nation or civilization? 6) Why is it that the UN in 1947 wanted to divide Israel into a Jewish and Arab state? There was no mentioning of any "Palestinian" state in 1947. 7) And Arabs are indeed a separate ethnic group - different from the Jews. But why would that difference all of the sudden give them the right to our land? 8) Jews didn't leave Israel voluntarily - they were massacred and kicked out by the Romans. How would you feel if the German people would be massacred and kicked out of Germany and exiled for 2000 years? How would you react if the world says that the Germans cannot return?
27. #23 max from germany, allegedly...
eporue ,   europe   (08.12.10)
you wrote: "...Their right to national self determination on that territory is stronger than the right of someone e.g. from Moldova who has arrived recently..." so, you are saying, that the turks in germany, who arrived in the 70s, shouldnt have the same rights as those staying there for (much) longer ? re this topic: we are quite "spoiled" in europe regarding movements between states. but for all i remember, when an american wants to bring his german wife and child (born abroad) to the US, they face a lot of paperwork, and there are also restrictions of leaving the US afterwards, in case they want permanent residency or citizenship...
28. Why Not Stay in Berlin?
Christy ,   Boston, US   (08.12.10)
Learn the language and culture. Get a job. Stay with wife and daughter in Berlin. You'll have in-laws and wife's friends in Berlin. You should be able to network with them and get a good job. I hear Germany can be a nice place to live.

As a German you do not have any right to speak bad about Israel. How many Jews your father & great father killed? Did the name of your great mother is Elisa Koch?

According t the comments policy, 'racist slurs' should not be published. Most of the comments here are nothing but racist, hateful slurs. Thank you Mr. Maier for countering them. Looks like racist slurs against Arabs are considered proper and patriotic in Israel, and normal human empathy for Arabs (!) 'anti-Semitic'. Disturbed and disturbing
