10 Talkbacks for this article
1. Abbas - we are still awaiting your reclaimng control of Gaza
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & New York   (08.15.10)
Nice to see what you can do in half of the country you want, when will you reconcile and bring Gaza back into Palestine?
2. Not "despite Israeli obstacles", but instead of intifada
Brian Cohen ,   PeoplesFrontofJudea   (08.15.10)
Amazing what one can achieve when you abandon violence and build instead. Just think what they could have built if they spent the energy of intifada-2 on peace talks instead of on molotov cocktails and suicide bombers...
3. Failure is not an option
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (08.15.10)
The Palestinian leaders state at the end of this article: "The Palestinians are concerned that... failure will cause them great damage, particularly in the leadership's reputation and in the Palestinian public's faith in peace talks. " Look your beginning to build a country, unlike Gaza, attacks from the WB have stopped,..as far as I can tell...and by your own admission the private sector is now willing to invest money into the WB. Because they see the stability, now, clearly we see by your remarks you still harbor animosity towards Israel. The Palestinian leader stated: ""All the Palestinian society's achievements were reached in the face of the Israeli occupation's restrictions and obstacles" Why take the shot at Israel, drop the attitude, in fact those "obstacles" were self inflicted. Israel didn't wake up one day and say lets make life hard for the Arabs. Israel responded to Palestinian suicide attacks, sniper attacks and a myriad of other murders committed against Israeli citizens. Be proud of what you accomplished, I think it's great, move forward, drop the attitude, and you'll have a country, without roadblocks.
4. no hospitals, no power plants, no sewage treatment plants
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (08.15.10)
why build anything that will facilitate becoming independent and self-sufficient when you can get it directly from the zionists at no cost?
5. Built with other people's money.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (08.15.10)
The crooks & embezzlers of Fatah managed to keep their hot little hands off a little of the money they receive from the suckers in the international community. So, they build some schools where they can teach hatred of Israel & Jews, and a few roads. Wow, that's really impressive! Now what would really be impressive is if this was a product of their own labour not charity. Who is the largest employer on the West Bank? If you guessed the Palestinian Authority, you guessed right. And, where do the funds to pay all of these useless parasites & armed thugs come from? If you're reading this from America or the EU, the answer is out of YOUR tax money.
6. The PA's main achievement.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (08.15.10)
Getting massive aid from Western suckers & stealing most of it while wasting the rest through mismanagement. To be fair, a lot of the aid from all the suckers was spent on financing terrorism, meaning basically, that Western donors finance the PA's war against Israel, thus prolonging the conflict & allowing the Palestinian leaders to be totally irresponsible & uncompromising. In reality, the supposed improved economy in the PA is due to an influx of aid money & not so much to real economic activity. I should add, of course, that Mr Fayyad has zero support among Fatah primarily because they can't steal as much aid money as in the past. And, Hamas would like to put an untimely end to his career. Nothing really has changed in the PA since the days of Arafat, regardless of the propaganda efforts of people like the author of this BS.
7. All building in Judea/Samaria rightfullly belongs to Israel.
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.15.10)
It is nice to see that not every penny of the endless billions of foreign aid to the P.A. goes into corruption and terror. However, the bottom line is that Judea and Samaria belong to Israel, have belonged to Israel for more than 3,500 years and always will. Everything built in Judea and Samaria rightfully belongs to Israel. If China built a city in New York State, for instance, the city would belong to America.
8. Fayyad's self-promotion
Cynthia ,   USA   (08.15.10)
He must be getting ready to run for office. All the "accomplishments" he boasts about in the last 12 months could have been accomplished years ago. I notice he doesn't mention creation of jobs. What happened to the thousands of Palestinian workers he prohibited from working in Israel? Are they still working in Israel or have they joined the long Palestinian welfare lines?
9. the whole truth, nothing but the truth
silvio   (08.16.10)
The meaning of the word Truth, extends to Honesty, Good Faith, Sincerity in general ; to agreement with Fact or Reality in particular. Are the reports of the past 12 months close to to reality? Fayyad, Abbas, the palis have one thing in common , inflate their importance ---- Pure arabesque; like the peacock expanding his chest in order to show his plumage -- to attract. Under this new face, achievements reports and ' proof of seriousness" is a constant reminder of mistrust, hatred, of negative children's education towards Jews (no jewish State shown on arab maps). A panel of foreign educators spending one hour with arab children (without parents, teachers, palis officials), will bring out the ugly truth ---- martyrs, suicide, glory, paradise, allah' warriors, whores et all. Paid for by the civilized world ?
10. Wow!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.16.10)
No mention of all the hospitals, clinics and universities that closed, though, huh? Fixing roads, indeed. Been to the West Bank lately? The Jewish parts are fine. The PA parts? Not so much.
