Many of you make an irrelevant and ignorant point over and over again. The building of a synagogue is not allowed in Muslim countries such as Saudi Arabia. The reason is that these countries DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT preach freedom of religion. This is a very ignorant point that many of you have been running with. Now this country (US) was built on religious freedom and anyone should be allowed to build their house of worship anywhere regardless of your own opinions. Everyone here attempts to be some kind of expert on this issue but are completely ignoring the facts and our unalienable rights. This issue is merely being blown out of proportion to shift American opinion on the Muslim community. The same goes with the handful of people recorded dancing in the streets after 9/11 by FOX news. This is one the lamest attempt to label Muslims I've ever seen knowing there are 1.5 BILLION Muslims in this world. These people don't represente the Muslim community whatsoever and groups such as CAIR have come out and condemned the attacks on the WTC. etc..... No one is against Christians or Jews building Houses of Worship anywhere in the Arab world and Muslim world. Mecca is a special case, and Muslims are not even allowed to allow non Muslims to enter it. This is the law as prescribed in the Quran and this has nothing to do with religious freedom. Can you build a mosque inside St. Peter's Basilica . Mecca, all Mecca is forbidden to non Muslims. Now regarding NYC... If American public believe Islam is the enemy, then yes, having a mosque there is insensitive... In fact, Islam itself should be banned as a practice in the US. Similarly, is the American invasion of Iraq considered an attack by the Church on Iraq?? Similar question, Is the war on Terror a War on Islam as many Muslims perceive it? Answering these questions and being consistent in finding answers to them is at the core of this whole issue.

Since the landing gear of one of the planes fell atop of the mosques site, it is mandatory that the mosque be built there. It serves as a triumphant symbol to Muslims world over, that atop the site of the biggest attack on US soil EVER, Islam will reign supreme. Therefore, they will NEVER agree to move it. Period.

First Hamas is singled out because they are a terrorist group and classified as such by the U.S., EU, and many other international bodies. Are you forgetting the wild rejoicing that occurred throughout the entire Islamic world in the aftermath of September 11? Especially in the West Bank and Gaza. Sweets were handed out, rifles fired into the air, and women wept while kissing pictures of Osama bin Laden. Similar events took place in Bagladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, pretty much all of the Islamic former Soviet republics and North Africa.
