Salma, first of all asalaam aleykum. In 1982 my best friend was killed by Palestinians. He was alone, unarmed, and ambushed by ten Palestinian youths who stabbed him to death over 100 times. The memory of this still hurts to this day. What can I say? Should I hate or choose not to hate? Dr. Abuelaish for me is a light, a ray of hope and an example of what we all need to do to stop the cycle of hatred that leads to violence that creates yet another cycle of hatred, then more violence, and so on. When do we stop all this? When do we as people caught up in this monstrosity of hate stop it all? Hate starts with each of us. So, each of us can stop the hate. If not now, when? Thank you Dr. Abuelaish for showing us all a possible way out.

However, please don't forget to mention the tens of families who were obliterated from the surface of of the planet in that war! What guit they've done to deserve all of this suffering? Friends of Israel, and peacelovers in general (even if they don't support Israel) don't deserve to suffer like this. Any sane Israeli would wish they could do something to ease this good doctor's pain and bring his children back. Yet another reason war and targeted attacks should only be used as an absolute last resort, when every other option on the table has been thoroughly exhausted and it's an urgent matter of life and death that a specific target be hit.

Salma, I understand your anger. Please read Dr. Abuelaish's book. His message of "I Shall not Hate" is for Israelis and Palestinians alike. He has every reason to hate, so do I, and so do you. Trust me, I more than understand this. I also want the occupation to end, but I need to feel that when our army leaves the West Bank, then that territory won't become like Gaza. The hatred is on both sides, and it is this hatred that fuels the violence by both sides. It takes two to make war. It takes two to make peace.

Forgiveness is wonderful when it can be achieved, however, the doctors words of forgiveness are tempered with an obvious lack of respect for Israel and the Jews. His reasoning and speaking ability reveals a very child-like demeanor...very unrealistic. Forgiveness is for a questionable crime against others where emotions and motive collide in a moment of weakness and the person shows true remorse. The Palestinians have NO remorse for the pain and suffering they've caused: in fact, they enjoy it. As such, any reasonably sane human would see that forgiveness in some cases is not even a consideration. The IDF did NOT intend to harm the doctors family but the doctorsown kin, people and culture DID intend to kill innocent Jews and CAUSE pain. Unfortunately, the doctors pain is drowned out by his own peoples and religions hatred for others. Such is the plight he stayed in and with. But Israel does NOT forgive nor CAN they forgive, on behalf of our perished, the hateful acts of the Palestinians. Israel has the logical, existential right to continue to crush Palestinian hatred at every turn without having to apologize or explain. It is obvious for any intelligent person to see this existential right to secure a peaceful life. If these people were doing this in the US, American citizens themselves would have taken the law into their own hands and obliterated them....dropping them into the sea or Mexico. And not a damn lunatic in the world would have a say or an investigation. When it comes to survival and Palestinian fanatacism, all parameters of engagment must be taken off the table and Israel should destroy their self-sworn enemy every chance they get.
