61. No real difference between Satmar and Islam
USA   (08.22.10)
These guys are like one small step from being true muslims in the style of Iranian Ayatollahs and Mullas in Gaza. Why not accept Islam as your religion in all reality they way they interpret Tarah is like they are actually reading the Quran.
62. satmar
thinkagain ,   jerusalem   (08.22.10)
I would like to hear the opinion of a satmar on this article, before i can trust it.
63. Response to # 49
RC ,   USA   (08.22.10)
Well besides being obvious hypocrites they will not leave unless someone pays all the expenses and gives them guarantees of lifetime welfare checks. That’s just me thinking though; you might want to ask them..
64. Satmar....
pdw ,   Maine USA   (08.22.10)
OK...we have our various fundamentalists too and we speak out and say so... At least these guys aren't in charge and armed .... Substitute a few proper nouns in this article and we might have any group....Taliban, Westborough Baptist Church, people in charge of many Islamist states...... Wish more would speak out against attempts to pirate the right(eous) path in the name of any faith....
65. Leave Israel
Dan ,   Rimonim, Israel   (08.22.10)
If these "people" are so against the State of Israel and the Hebrew language, let's encourage them to leave as soon as possible.
66. All who annul any mitzvah are heretics
Yoni ,   Tel Aviv   (08.22.10)
There is a mitzvah to live in the land of Israel and anyone who annuls even one mitzvah small or large is a heretic. This includes unfortunately too many Jews nowadays but this to me seems a deliberate strike against the holiness of the land of Israel and the commandments we were given to draw us close to our father in heaven. Many secular Jews annul the mitzvot out of misunderstanding and lack of knowledge. This is plain intentional. The Torah is true and perfect. All who strike against it will hurt themselves and the world around them.
67. Not Written By Satmar
Moshe ,   Cleveland   (08.22.10)
The Satmar idealogues did not write the booklet. It was written by individuals of Neturei Karta in Jerusalem or elsewhere. The chief leaders, activists and ideologues of today's Satmar are not really anti-Zionist. They are merely filling in the gap of what used to be the militant Agudists. These Satmar do not abide by the teachings of R. Yoel at all. They want an Orthodox state where the laws do not violate the Torah. This is not anti-Zionism. But the Zionist media can never get these differences straightened out.
68. to 62 , make some research !
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.22.10)
They have a website i think .
69. "Zionist State...root of all impurity, damage in world"
William ,   Israel   (08.22.10)
Apparently, the Satmar's aren't aware of the atrocities befalling Jews prior to 1948. Then again, they're not big on history not ordained by the rebbe. I welcome their leaving Israel in droves.
70. #11 - I prefer to listen to Arabs for Israel
William ,   Israel   (08.22.10)
Those Arabs who support the State of Israel, including Imam Abdul Palachi and Mosab Hassan, son of Hamas founder.
71. #27 - One can say the same of Capitalism
William ,   Israel   (08.22.10)
despite the fact that most attacks on the West was from those who opposed Capitalism in lieu of their own ideologies. Same here - Zionism itself did not cause death and destruction in the Middle East - it was racism and terrorism at the hands of despotic Arabs who demand to replace Zionism that is the source of death in the Middle East. Where Israelis have gone in the world, usually good things happen - good business, aid to impoverished populations through high-technology, and lives saved from natural disasters. Compare that to the deaths at the hands of Arabs, where-ever they have gone...and that precedent goes back several hundred years, not just to 1948. But I see you're from the EU, so you consider hegemonic demands for autonomy in your countries and threats of violence to be the lovable part of their character.
72. #54 - The pamphlet didn't come from founding rebbe
William ,   Israel   (08.22.10)
It was written recently under the direction of the current Satmar leader based on the teachings of the founding rebbe. I'm pretty confident that anyone in the sect, especially their leaders, have been vetted enough to be on the same wavelength as the founding rebbe. To claim the pamphlet might not represent his views is retarded at best.
73. To#68 amazing!
thinkagain ,   jerusalem   (08.22.10)
I found something in their favor. At least they do not take money of the State.
74. #67 - explain why Satmars protested during Yom Hatzmaot?
William ,   Israel   (08.22.10)
One thing that brought the Satmars and Neturei Karta, neither of which deserve to live in Israel, together was their distaste for Zionism and their protest of the State during Yom Hatzmaot. You might not have seen it all the way in Cleveland, but I had a front row seat of disgust right in Jerusalem.
75. Inmates have taken over the asylum
David ,   Hartford USA   (08.22.10)
76. 73 , is this news for you ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.22.10)
But i think that they use the health services , hospitals , the roads , buses . All paid or subsidised by our money .
77. Change the Law of Return ASAP
Dav Lev ,   Burbank CAUSA   (08.22.10)
I was informed of a large Satmar community center and shul in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. Also, there are Satmar enclaves in upstate NY. These are the "true Zionists" as one commentor says? Leave it up to them, AND the Pales will simply walk into Tel Aviv, murder all its Jews and then start up in Jerusalem. Sure, they, the Pales and anti-Zionists adore them..a 5th column worse than any Arab enemy. The law of return must be amended to preclude anyone not taking an oath and living it. Many people want to convert to Judaism, but are denied. There are over 15m half-Jews or quarter Jews in the USA, who would, if enlightened, become Jews, and allowed into our fold. Our priorities are again, confused. Had Rommel not lost in Egypt, there would be no Satmar alive today. They would have been the first to die if the Mufti had prevailed. and should be reminded of same.
78. SAT-MAR
victor ,   Herzlia ISRAEL   (08.23.10)
No spelling error but an ethymological explanation, requiering some Hebrew" SAT (like in SOTAY)= DEVIANT MAR = BITTER. That says it all: Bitter Deviants. Nothing new under the sun (Eccles. 1; 9 )
79. Come to Romania
Miron Cristea ,   Bucharest, Romania   (08.23.10)
You are absolutely right-you have caused problems in Palestine. COme back to your true homeland ROMANIA
80. Baruch Hashem
yoav sar tzava ,   boston   (08.23.10)
there with us here until mashiach . I agrree with them except I dont want to see israel a piece of toast because of its great iniquities ive prayed for her survival for 20 years !!!!!!! And to all you jews who hate there way they dont carre , remember there the keepers of the faith and torah after the crematoria not you ! and your families and your way !
81. its like shabbat elevators
dani   (08.23.10)
so why are they still in israel? its like the elevators -- you can ride in them without 'doing work'...and you can live in israel without 'living in israel'. those crazy nutters will figure out some way. too bad.
82. A "Jewish" state?
Naftali Lavie   (08.23.10)
The Satmar position emphasizes 2 truths: According to at least some Jewish religious thought, "a Jewish state in the Land of Israel" is self-contradictory and destructive. Moreover, the Satmars cannot be accused of being "antisemites". Antisemitism is one thing; anti-Zionism is something else altogether. Stop slandering the anti-Zionists as "antisemites"
83. They never left Eastern Europe
Shmuel ,   Haifa, Israel   (08.23.10)
I do not come from the historical European background and experience of Diaspora Judaism. I see the trials of Europe's Jews as being the worst trials in Jewish history. The Jewish mind was warped and twisted amongst both the religious and secular alike in Europe. The reason stated by the Kaballah for the long exile in Europe (Galut Edom) is that the Jews resembled and imitated the charecter of the Romans(edomites of their time) way back then. We still resemble Edom in many ways, religious and secular alike. Jews need to remember their Eastern roots as an originally EASTERN religion. Europe betrayed and slaughtered her Jews by the millions. Why any Jew in their right mind wants to continue identifying with the European experience is beyond me. It is a kind of sick nostalgia that should be done away with in both the secular and religious world alike. Europe was NEVER the home of the Jews. Get it through your thick skulls. Satmars will either leave their cult and join the mainstream of Judaism or they shall fade into history like so many have done in the past. All is for the good, regardless of how tragic and sad it all seems.
84. No need for cherem on Satmars...
Yerushalmi ,   Jerusalem   (08.23.10)
...Vilna Gaon put Cherem on all chasidut in 1777, and then again, in 1781, when baal hatanya started preaching hassidut to mitnagdim, he put another cherem and forbade intermarriage between jews and hassidim. Not one of those cherems was ever lifted so they are still in force. That's halacha. Satmars, Toldot Aharon, etc, and on other side of the spectrum, Chabad meshihistim, Na-Nahim, and similar bizarre groups filled with goyish nonsense show that Gaon was correct, and that Cherem should not be lifted in near future. Sure, there are nice sounding ideas in hassidut, but so are in every man made ideology that managed to find followers (such as fascism, communism, etc), but nice sounding ideas don't make it Judaism.
85. To #76 Charles
thinkagain ,   jerusalem   (08.23.10)
Don t you think,we should be careful not to condemn a whole group( of good people who help, if needed ,secular and orthodoxe health patients, all over the world)because of the few who wrote the pamphlet? The ones who stay in Israel, they do not even listen to the latter.Let us not sending the Satmar nor other Haredi away from Israel. Thanks to them Jews still have a majority in Israel.
86. Wow! I guess I won't be going back to Israel.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (08.23.10)
87. They never left Eastern Europe cont.
Shmuel ,   Haifa, Israel   (08.23.10)
The Tikkun for behaving like Esau has been to live under the heel and oppression of Esau in Europe for centuries. There is only one thing worth celebrating and remembering when it comes to the experience of the Jews in Europe and that is that we are still here, the Jews survived the experience of living under the rule of Esau in Europe. We are now in the transitional phase of remembering who we are. Those that would have us continually imitate the gentiles and live according to their lead are now in serious decline, because the western world (Edom) is in serious decline. We will not go back to being the playthings and ragdolls of Esau. The time for divine retribution has come. So to for the rule and oppression of Ishmael. Amen.
88. Why don't they all just sod off?
Talula ,   Israel   (08.23.10)
The ‘messiah’ is not coming – he doesn’t exist and he’s not real. However, what IS real is global warming and searing hot temperatures – and probably more financial misery caused by thieves and con-artists who call themselves Knesset ministers.
89. It's really hard to understand why
Greg ,   Jerusalem   (08.23.10)
this rabbi is so much worse than a liberal, post-Zionist, left-leaning professor, who gets a handsome salary from the State that he constantly preaches against. This rabbi sits in Brooklyn, hopes for the Messiah to come, and is talking only to his followers. He's not calling for boycotts, concessions to murderers, or weakening of the military's resolve or morale. He simply feels an error was committed 62 years ago by creating the State of Israel, an idea with which many leftists agree. Is this such a radically unheard of idea - particularly in certain academic, left-wing circles. What's good for the goose . . .
90. They are almost as bad as Ben Gurion University Leftists!
Bill ,   UK   (08.23.10)
