31. Africa-Israel just announced higher profits
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (08.24.10)
Norway loses again. I'm reading that A-I hasn't been involved in construction in the territories for a few years, but if they're going to be blamed for it anyway ... I wonder if anyone considered the source of Norway's $440 Billion sovereign wealth fund. It's oil. The same stuff that's enriched the OPEC nations that it stands with. And if anyone in Norway thinks Israel will bend over just to regain a few million in investments, they're delusional.
32. Hello, Norway, in Texas...
Elizabethlynne ,   Dallas, TEXAS!   (08.25.10)
I am and have been for a while boycotting all products from Norway and have asked my friends and family to do the same. I am more than sick of the anti-Israel sentiment displayed by Norway, a thinly veiled anti-semitism.
33. Response to #3 from Turkey
Elizabethlynne ,   Dallas, TEXAS!   (08.25.10)
Really! I thought that Turkey had moved beyond the horror and rotten attitudes that led to the murders of so many Armenians---so now, you want to condemn and criticize Israel? So we should boycott Turkey for the past as well as the present day treatment of the Kurdish people. You really do have nerve.
34. Those who live off Oil will die of Oil!

35. Norweigian company
loverofzion ,   Tel Aviv   (08.25.10)
I'd like to see all the Norwegian companies represented; then let's check their war recrods. Hypocritical!
36. #5 Macher
Michael ,   Haifa   (08.25.10)
"Strong" ,as meant by you and your ilk, means stealing the land and resources of other human beings and treating them like subhumans. I suggest that you buy a very large umbrella since more and more people in the world are going to urinate over you (p**s is rather rude, don't you think ?)

First off, your insight in Norway is somewhat lacking. Sure, there is a sentiment opposing the Israeli occupation of (disputed) Palestinian land - but the vast majority have no quarrel with Israeli people, be they Jews, Christians, Muslims or atheists. In fact, we have a great sympathy for all the people who are caught in the middle of all this politics and hatred. But another fact can be found in share numbers of people killed during the last 20 years - and not least in the way it has been done. I'm not defending Hamas, they could be eradicated for all I care, but the people living within the blockade in the Gaza strip are a beaten down and desperate people. And when nothing gets in except a selected few items that the Israeli government approves, and the occasional visit from one of the greatest and most competent war machines in the world, Hamas is probably the only one they can listen to... But I won't go into a discussion with you on that - we would most certainly not agree at any point. Maybe if I lived with an Israeli family for a year, and you spent a year working at a hospital on the Gaza strip - we might get closer. But I do want to discuss your "boycott". Our three major export goods are oil, weapons and fish. I've also heard that the "Jarlsberg"-cheese has a bigger market in the US than in Norway, but hardly significant economic size compared to the other three. And Norwegian fish should be easy to avoid, though I'm quite sure we don't export much to the US of that anyways - I believe Europe and Asia buys most of our fish. That leaves us with weapons and oil - and unless you plan to stop paying taxes, you will be indirectly buying Norwegian munitions and weapon systems. And can you and your friends be totally sure about the gas you're putting in you gas tank not being produced in Norway or by a Norwegian company? Statoil, a Norwegian oil company which is about 60% owned by the government, and one of the larger in the world, has investments and activities both on mainland and offshore US. And can you be totally sure, you're not unknowingly sending money to Norway? The Norwegian Government Pension Fund, or Norwegian Oil Fund if you will, is estimated at $440 billion, and has investments ALL over the world. Not trying to ruin your day here - but odds are your little boycott is nothing more than a scream in deep deep space... mute.
38. Well, on that I have to agree...
Frank O ,   Tromsø, Norway   (08.27.10)
According to factbook.cia.gov - I believe we're the 7th or 8th largest exporter of weapons and weapon systems per capita in the world. And we've probably got several other hypocritical double standards, such as flying all around the world speaking about the environment - while being the 7th largest exporter of fossil fuel in the world (est. 2007), and that's NOT per capita. However, I'd rather be a little bit hypocritical, than directly supporting the killing of over thousand people, including women and hundreds of children, as the Israeli government managed to do in their last campaign in Gaza.
39. #31 - Well, that's one way to look at it.
Frank Otto Olsen ,   Tromsø, Norway   (08.30.10)
The loosing part that is. I do not believe that the ethics commitee that made the decission to withdraw from Africa-Israel had any personal point of view in making the decission. And even if they did, it would on a personal level be as divided as the views expressed throughout the world. The commitee as such, has probably only done a job in reading the guidelines which probably includes a line or two about how to handle investments that are done in countries where breaches of UN resolutions have been made, and acted accordingly to their guidelines. Now, that been said - the decission is a result of a political process, in which not only economic value is counted - but also ethics and moral values. So this might be a financial loss - but it's not necessarily a loss when other values are counted. And yeah, we know about the rethorics of Hamas - "Death to Israel!" and all that moronic drivel... I don't think anyone in Norway supports Hamas except maybe a small group of deluded ultra lefties. The point isn't that Norwegians support Hamas (who got in "power" by a conflict that killed over 100 people) - the point is that allmost 300 children died last campaign the IDF carried out in Gaza. The people of Norway doesn't support the killing of 13 people, of which 3 were children, by the different Palestinian groups from 2000 until 2008 with Qassam-missiles - but certainly doesn't support a retalliation where x100 casualties is achieved. The point isn't that Israel brokered a treaty, giving them the right to the land after being invaded and winning, the point is in the methods of excercising their right. Stripping people of their land, and buldozing down anything on the land, and giving it away to someone else. (and even in times where withdrawals from settlements have been done, the buldozers have been taken out of storage to make sure the Palestinians didn't get any use of the buildings left behind) These are the considerations that are made when dropping out from Israeli investments opportunities (and you'd be damn sure that The Norwegian Sovereign Fund would divest from a company should it be revealed that they fund i.e. Hamas). http://www.regjeringen.no/en/sub/styrer-rad-utvalg/ethics_council/ethical-guidelines.html?id=425277 (Though this might be a bit hypocritical, since we in 2007 were estimated to be the 7th largest exporter of weapons, weapon systems and munitions - not per capita! Of which about 3/4 were shipped to the US - wouldn't be the least bit surprised if some of it has fallen into Israeli hands as a close ally of the US. But you can't win'em all - gotta start somewhere.) And your remark regarding OPEC is way off mark - first off, Norway isn't a part of OPEC, and doesn't follow OPEC at every whim. Norway is a member of OECD - where the US is a member, and Israel was invited 10th of May this year (But the OECD-membership doesn't imply any loss of autonomity with regards to production quotas). Norway has actually been an ally when it comes to not being a slave to OPECs control of prices. With regards to figures from 2007 (factbook.cia.gov) we have actually have had something to say on the price too - since we also there was the 7th largest exporter of oil in the world. I do believe our relations to EU and The US is better than with i.e. Nigeria (OPEC-member!). And I would guess that US has better relations with Saudi-Arabia than Norway ever will if you want to flip the coin...
