#2, i don't think so. it seem to me that israel is apologizing for not allowing the heroic libanese army to kill more of our soldiers... NOW NOT ONLY THE NUTCASE DECLARES ISRAL A WEAKLING, BUT THE LEBANESE TOO. WHAT DETERENT ISRAEL IS ESTABLISHING.... WOW
4. Why doesnt Israel act on this?
Shtefan ,   Moldova   (08.26.10)
Pushing for a UN resolution and condemnation and really exposing the UN hypocrasy? Apologetic silence from Israel again? When will Jews stop apologizing for their existance?
5. now

Israel has to prove that this tree is the actual same one to the center of the conflict.
6. It is Israel's fault
Ron ,   Melborne, Australia   (08.26.10)
I am sorry UNIFIL you can not let Israel off the hook so easily. Israel has purposely pruned the trees on its side of the border so as to provoke Lebnon into an Unprovoked action so that ultimately Lebanon gets the blame. It is clear that this was engineered by the Mosad as there is no proof they did not engineer it which means it must be the case.
7. Israel should have

Matthias ,   Munich, Germany   (08.26.10)
the Lebanese army murdered an brave Israeli soldier. How about apologize Lebanon? How about a UN resolution to blame Lebanon? How about a probe of the Lebanese soldiers involvedbin the terroristic act? Nothing of them? So perdictable...
12. Awaiting a global denouncement of the act...
Jonathan   (08.26.10)
...of course. Or do we need a special UN committee to assess the risks of telling the truth ?
13. Israel violates Lebanese sovereignty daily
american ,   usa   (08.26.10)
Israel must stop violating Lebanese airspace. That way Lebanon will not be on such high alert which can lead to misunderstandings. Israel should have given more advanced notice before crossing the fence. Israel bears the responsibility for the death of its own by not giving advanced warning. The Israelis must stop stealing Palestinian land, end the occupation, and end the Israeli violence and destruction against Palestine.
14. "and i see no changes"
Julius Malema ,   Sandton RSA   (08.26.10)
Israel is always to be blame, only later does it become clear that Israel either had no choice but to go into self defence mode or Israel is investigated and given a clear as the innocent party. Never in history of human kind, a far superior army ever faced such condemnation before anyone even knows the full story. examples: The Arabs only see operation cast lead, not the Missiles, kidnappings or Israeli retreat from the are a year before. People remember the flotilla, but not the warnings by both Israel, Egypt and the United Nations; not to try force their way in and go through the UN. People remember this Tree... On Lebanon’s land, then turn a blind eye that there was ever a tree in question. This world is two faced, which is exactly why I could never support any Arab plee… cause I just don’t believe anything they ever say.
15. you still discussing this, crossing border isn't the
ghostq   (08.26.10)
poin, the main point of the shooting was to canclled the peace talkes between the palestinians and Israel by starting clashes from north, arab world knows the valu of their propeganda, and they riding on the hate wave against Israel like pro serfers, the truth is if it wasn't excuss of border that wasn't cross, lebanes would probably find a different pretence for shooting and killing. it's like taking aspirin for head ache when the real reason is the lil woman nagging you, it take care of the pain but it won't make her shut up.
16. The "loose cannon" on Israel's Northern border
sally   (08.26.10)
Hezbollah has always said its weapons were pointed only at Israel, though many knew better. Hezbollah even brags (although it’s not true) that they did not turn their weapons against Lebanese during the last civil war. Both of these lies have been exposed before the whole world. There may be lulls in the violence, but there will be no real peace in Lebanon until Hezbollah is disarmed or destroyed. More about Hezbollah : http://xrl.us/bkivy
17. #13 except there was no misunderstanding
Danny   (08.26.10)
The IDF DID notify the Lebanese well in advance. The Lebanese responded by installing snipers and calling in a lot of reporters to cover the story in real time. Just in case we might think the LAF got confused the LAF didn't shoot at the soldiers carrying out the pruning but rather at soldiers standing far from the tree and on the Israeli side of the fence well within Israeli territory. This again is 100% black and white.
18. Do your work, THEN tell the UN what you did. Safer.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (08.26.10)
19. TREE REFUSED TO TESTIFY
steve ,   tel aviv   (08.26.10)
According to Al Jazeera, the Israeli tree at the center of the deadly clashes long the Lebanese-Israeli border on Aug. 3 refused to testify in the UNIFIL investigation but did speak with reporters after, saying "I'll leave this to the relevant UNIFIL branches and now embark on my journey back to Northern Israel where I am deeply rooted. Lebanese have accused the tree of treeson and are threatening to cut down trees everywhere.
20. #19 VERY FUNNY
LAWRENCE RAP ARTISTE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (08.26.10)
Ha ha ha LOL .The lebanese misunderstood . They thought there were three fellas but the Israelis said Tree Fellers...
21. And..
John ,   Herzliya, Israel   (08.26.10)
And the international media who was so quick in accusing Israel on the day of the attack is quiet. They do not report the UNIFIL findings. Guess what would happen if they would found Israel guilty?
22. No time to lose!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.26.10)
Israel must immediately demand that the United Nations order an investigation into this matter. Perhaps an independent investigation as well, which can be headed by "Judge" Goldstone. The Security Council must immediately convene in plenary session. This Lebanese outrage MUST be addressed! Sarcastic? Yes. Humorous? No. A decorated Israeli officer was killed in the skirmish. Lebanon should be forced to pay reparations to his family, and to the family of the hapless journalist who was brought along purely for propaganda purposes. The Lebanese soldiers? Oh well. Sometimes you get PRECISELY what you ask for.
23. To: No. 13
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.26.10)
Sure. Of course you are aware that the United States violates the airspace of numerous other nations on a daily basis, most of whom do not harbor terrorist elements sworn to the destruction of the United States. Unlike Lebanon, which gives safe haven to Hezbollah, an organization which openly states its goal to be the destruction of the "Zionist entity" (i.e., Israel). Hell, the U.S. even overflies Canadian airspace! Israel hasn't stolen Palestinian land any more than the United States "stole" Mexican land as a result of a war which Mexico LOST. The Arabs were the aggressors in six wars, and they lost all six times. The West Bank is non-sovereign territory, and Israel acquired it in the course of fighting a DEFENSIVE war against Jordan. Israel has every right to settle the West Bank. Read the Hague Conventions. In fact, Israel has every right to annex the West Bank and to repatriate its Arab residents to Jordan -- they are, after all, citizens of Jordan, a status which was award to them and their progeny IRREVOCABLY in 1950 by King Hussein of Jordan. The Palestinians COULD have had a state in 1947. They chose to go to war instead. Shouldn't go to war unless you're pretty gosh-darned sure you can win. They didn't. Too bad for the Palestinian Arabs, but they are very much the architects of their situation. Besides, they have on three occasions declined to take advantage of a two-state solution. They want the whole thing, and that just is not going to happen. Moreover, it is daylight madness to expect Israel to make concessions to a fractious terrorist rabble bent on the destruction of the State of Israel and committed to the extermination and/or expulsion of the Jews. Violence and destruction, you say? That's pretty much an Arab and Islamic vocation, dear. Do yoy remember September 11? And that's just one example. There are many, many more. Learn the facts before you spout inflammatory nonsense. You are so dismally ignorant and uninformed.
24. To: No. 6
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.26.10)
Thank you for the comic relief. Pruning trees .... lay off the Foster's, bloke; it's addled your (alleged) brain.
25. Are you telling me...
Persian CAT   (08.26.10)
Israeli-Lebanese border is not clearly marked yet? Or the tree decided to change sides and moved to the "Zionist entity" ;)
26. It's taken them THREE WEEKS???
Olah ,   Eilat, Israel   (08.26.10)
Did the tree keep moving so they couldn't tell where it was? It takes UNIFIL 3 weeks to decide where a tree is and they're our peace-keeping force? Decisive guys, obviously ...
27. boy, do I agree with you!
Jules Gilbert ,   Boston, USA   (08.26.10)
What is really needed here is action by some IDF commandos. I don't want to see Jewish casualties, but I think we know that being polite and diplomatic doesn't work. When dealing with people of violence it's sad that it's necessary, but IT IS NECESSARY. Israel needs to do some commando raids, making sure that the Syrian's and Lebanese see that they need to behave. I used to think that the Lebanese could be good neighbors, I think that period maybe over. We can try again in 20 years.
28. #13 - Same can be said of Hizbullah arming to the teeth
William ,   Israel   (08.27.10)
After all, it WAS Hizbullah's re-arming against UNR1701 that caused IAF fly-overs to resume. And it was Hizbullah cross-border attacks and entries into Israel to kidnap and kill Israelis that keeps the whole region on alert. Infact, its Hizbullah that's trying to recruit inside West Bank and heat up the situation at the moment peace talks are beginning. Considering the LAF knew exactly when and where the IDF would be operating, with the blessing of UNIFIL, there was NO reason to be on edge at all. Infact, it was all well-planned by Hizbullah to test IDF responses.

Quote: "but I think we know that being polite and diplomatic doesn't work"... Now out of curioustiy, just when was Israel polite and diplomatic..??. please give an example... could it be when they boarded a ship they had no right to board and killed innocent people... or could it be when they killed about 400 innocent children in Gaza... let us know.
30. #29 I believe it was in all times prior to those events.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (08.29.10)
Operation Cast Lead in Gaza only started after years of cross-border rocket launches, raids, and suicide bombers - which Israel deliberately didn't respond to beyond the immediate moment of the attack, targeting the attackers themselves and none else. Israel didn't respond to suicide bombers like the one in an Eilat bakery, or Hamas' constant armament gathering, but in the end, the last straw was just that - the last. Israel tried, quite often at that, to tell Hamas to stop its attacks. They didn't. And Hezbollah decided that it was quite legitimate to start a cross-border raid-and-murder/kidnap op without fearing any repercussions. And with those activists, Israeli officials asked for weeks to just put the aid through the regular channels, didn't they? Time and time again. But that wasn't the point of the flotilla - political pressure was. So when Israel enforced its arms embargo on Gaza (because letting boats just enter unchecked into Gaza is a fine way of letting Hamas get more arms quickly), some of the peace activists turned out to be not that peaceful - I thought surrendering to armed forces was the norm, even when said armed forces enter with paintball guns and backup sidearms? Apparently not. And it amazes me how people so quickly forget that the dead activists died from pistol fire, not from military assault rifles, from soldiers tried to save their own lives. This wasn't "self defense" on the side of the activists against overwhelming military force - they said they were going to surrender peacefully, a token force with little to no weaponry entered the vessel, and they didn't surrender - they attacked. So yes, Israel tries talking and being diplomatic all the bloody time. It's just that no one bothers talking with it.
