Chaim, I totally agree that it's disgusting. I swim every day in Tel Aviv year-round, and had to contend with a daily barrage of crap in the sand and sea from mid-July until just recently.
Surely the environment is one thing we can unite on?
Tikkun olam is a concept for haredim.
Israeli Arabs continue (according to surveys) to claim historic ownership of all the land, so they should want to look after it better.
The left has always found a home with the environmentalist hard core.
The right should like anything that boosts efficiency (like recycling) and economy (like tourism).
And the secular centre just want to live in a country that feels like Europe or the USA, ie not covered in crap.
