1. Don't hire or patronize boycotting performers.
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.28.10)
Rightist MK's are correct to call for a boycott of mindless PC zombies who refuse to perform in Judea and Samaria. They can be easily replaced. I urge everyone who loves Israel not to hire or patronize boycotting performers.
2. Excellent idea....give them their own medicine backl!
Jay3 ,   Israel   (08.28.10)
Ariel is a city....not a settlement! These artists are a pack of leftist fools!
3. shame on you so called artists
ezer   (08.28.10)
How ugly, Israelis boycotting Israelis!
4. TO A CERTAIN ATTILA SOMFALVI.
FO ,   Belgium.   (08.28.10)
A 1967 border is inexistant. On the east, Israel has no border but a cease-fire line from 1949. It is called the green line because it was drawn by the belligerents (Israelis and Jordanians) with a green pencil. Calling the green line a border is not only contrary to the historical facts, but may be considered in the actual context as an act of treason.
5. SUPPORT THE ARTISTS
sharon ,   near Gaza   (08.28.10)
Ariel is a settlement and it doesn't matter if you call it a city. Support the State of Israel and not the Land of Israel!!!
6. Ariel Samarian ridges protects the airport and Gush Dan
Trumpeldor   (08.28.10)
These artists would like to see civilian airplanes shot down or their beautiful villas kasamized ... They must be drunk !
7. Let them work for Haaretz or
David ,   USA/ISRAEL/EGYPT   (08.28.10)
move to the EU, there is where they belong. KOL ISRAEl enough with this nonsense.Join the Z street and support IM TIRTZU. put an end to this fascism
8. bull-s..t artists
tom ,   tel aviv   (08.28.10)
Everything in life is either about sex or money (so they say) Let's give them both: lots of "f-u" and NO money..
9. Same pattern!
Ricardo Macher ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (08.28.10)
We have to understand the "elite" mentality. This artists think that since they are "sensible" they are better than you and me, same concept with BGU academia, same concept with the Supreme court, that is called an "illustrated dictatorship" far away of course of democracy. The "elite" is better than the rest and so they show the ignorant masses the correct way, giving little importance to what this people may feel or think!
10. It is amazing how their words can be turned against them:
Israeli   (08.28.10)
"You can't have innocent, law abiding, tax paying citizens suffer from ugly political discrimination that prevents them from (protesting). This is collective punishment and a dangerous precedent that calls for discrimination under the guise of ideology." -I though our elected people were supposed to be smart. If you don't like their protest, protest them. You can't threaten to cut off government funding because you don't like their opinions.
11. :: Counter boycott is doomed to fail
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (08.28.10)
Look at this logically - who is going to boycott? The ‘secular’ settlers in the likes of Ariel? Well these actors and playwrights are boycotting these communities so that evens things out. The ‘rabid religious’ violent and extreme settlers in the likes of Hebron? Well these settlers live in their own bubbles of ‘reality’ and probably haven’t seen a play or experienced a piece of secular Israeli culture in years/decades. The Haredim? They avoid anything remotely different from their insular culture. The minority rightwing Zionists in Israel? Who cares as they are a small minority? The end result will be that these brave Israelis, who refuse to support the illegal settlements in the Palestinian WB, will continue their boycott and there is nothing that anyone can do about it. Hopefully this boycott by artists/playwrights/etc will grow in number and further the internal discourse as to why these illegal settlements should not be supported.
12. End your apartheid ideology
emc   (08.28.10)
and then you may critize the ideology of others.
13. Elite mentality
Emmanuel Diron ,   Lugano   (08.29.10)
"We have to understand the elite mentality"... what a piece of crap. Settlers dont have mentality, just an immoral desire to grab land of others... Just imagine theater groups performing to other ignominous entities like Ahmedinejad, Chavez or FIdel. Khol ha kavod to these brave artists...
14. huge mistake, don't ever nevr ever, involved
ghostq   (08.29.10)
entertainment and politics, if you don't want to kiss your artistic career goodbye, other wise it will surve political propeganda, I would say the same if they were right wingers as well, do not mix the two, if one goes down it will drag down the other, that is y I never listen or watch any political artists.
15. to #11 normally boyycotte won't work but
ghostq   (08.29.10)
in this case the tax payer pay these artists salary, they probably will find themselves in the street corner begging for small change.
16. Counter Boycott World Wide!
Seething ,   USA   (08.29.10)
I would love to see an Im Tirzu-like list of these boycotters. We could convince the pro-Israel community to instead boycott them and anyone who hires them. Oh, wait! Don't call THAT McCarthyism. Blacklists are fine when the left is compiling the list.
17. #10 is very confused about the law
Phil ,   Warminster USA   (08.29.10)
The artists have the right to refuse performing in Ariel. That is a given. What I don't understand is why #10 wants to deny the right of people who oppose their decision to not patronize these actors. #10's opinion is par for the course of so-called leftist "civil libertarians>" People they agree with have their blessing but they deny all rights to those people who disagree with their leftist philosophy. I will not support any movie or stage play that has Vanessa Redgrave in the cast because of her ugly hatred of Israel. Neither will I support antisemites in Hollywood such as Mel Gibson or Oliver Stone. I guess that is wrong according to #10.
18. 'ariel' artists' boycott
moron ,   galut   (08.29.10)
why are those who oppose boycott slandered as .right wing' when so=called artists are not called left wing?right thinking against useful idiots would be more accurate!
19. Green line, red line, blue line, orange line
Joe ,   Toronto Canada   (08.29.10)
Oddly, they chose green in 1949 where the Arab armies that set out to destroy Israel were stopped. The line is simply that – a line which existed on the ground between armies for 18 years – until 1967. That line is now the Jordan River, the result of two defensive wars. Ariel is part of that defense. These Israelis should know this, even though much of the world doesn’t want to acknowledge it. Nevertheless, the West Bank is still DISPUTED territory - neither sovereign to the Pals nor to the Israelis. The fact that Jordan and Iraq attacked Israel several times from this territory, formerly OCCUPIED by Jordan for 19 yrs., does not give the Pals nor Arabs any more claim then Israel. Notwithstanding the media and Arab propaganda for the past 43 years, only Israel has been threatened with annihilation from this territory. These Israelis should also know this too - that their livelihoods are partly as a result of communities such as Ariel. I seem to recall Jordan building there for 19 years and not allowing Jews to visit their holy sites (against UN resolution – how soon we forget) in that territory, and yet there was no media frenzy at the time - why was that? No Saudi $$$? Because it was only against Jews? If I was Israeli, I would boycott the “artists” concerned (short of charging them with treason and revoking their citizenship) until they understand, unlike much of the world, that Israel has a right to defensible borders – as per UN Res. 242. Call the line what you will, it has been proven useless for 61 years and counting.
20. I can't boycott something I do not patronize
Golan ,   Israel   (08.29.10)
how can I boycott a group I would not pay a grush to go see? You couldn't even pay me to sit through one of their shows.
21. Israel Artistes boycott of Illegal Settlements
Alan Smith ,   UK   (08.29.10)
Since when have illegal settlers been connoisseurs of art and culture, they're too busy burning olive groves and defacing mosques to appreciate the finer art of theatre.
22. Wrong headline !
Gabe Yakmore ,   Canada   (08.29.10)
A cease fire line is not a border ! It never was and never will be.
23. Please don't misconstrue me
Salma ,   Palestine   (08.29.10)
With all due respect to these artists, but I have a question for them, Is it acceptable for you If others STOLE large part of your artwork , and attributed to themselves?!!!
24. #9 Macher
Michael ,   Haifa   (08.29.10)
It does not call for much effort to be "better than you" and the ignorant masses you claim to represent
25. To # 13 Emmanuel
Ricardo Macher ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (08.29.10)
Dear Emmanuel, whoever pays you to do your counter Israeli job is throwing his money away. Before answering you should at least read what you are going to attack!!! I was talking about elitist artists mentality (just read further) !!! So now , after your clownish comment, sit down and be quiet!!!
26. cut state funding. ether serve all of israel or stop taking
ralph   (08.29.10)
every citizen tax dollar.
27. #4 - If the Green Line is Not
Doug ,   Rochester, USA   (08.30.10)
Israel's border, what is Israel's border? Does everyone born within that border get all rights of citizenship, including voting rights, legal rights, same level of state provided education, health care, access to water, rights to land they hold legal title to, freedom to travel within the country on public roads, etc.? If not, what is the justification for withholding these rights?
