2. jewish gene: anti-semitism?!
Idalia ,   the netherlands   (08.29.10)
whoa, i thought that Jews were proud of their Jewish genes?? One can even take a test (genetic test) to discover if you have Jewish roots! So what he said is right, right?
3. DO All GERMAN BANKERS share a particular A-HOLE gene?
JEWISHNESS ,   USA   (08.29.10)

6. How Pathetic!
Bill Foonman ,   Jacksonville USA   (08.29.10)
That's like saying all Germans share a genocidal gene for murdering Jews (full sarcasm intended).
7. context/
Eddie ,   london UK   (08.29.10)
it isnt said in what context he said this about Jews. I am not defending hsi remarks, but what was his point about Jews sharing a certain gene? Was it the old nazi propaganda that Jews are after world domination, or that Jews are descended from Abraham, Isaac, + jacob?
8. For once, Peter I agree with you
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (08.29.10)
He's a poor guy....... for bringing Jews and Basques into the equation
9. Nothing antisemitic about what he said
Tony   (08.29.10)
We do share certain genes. We do ALL come from the same ethnic origin (except for converts who are fake Jews). All the idiots who deny this should study some Jewish genetics and Jewish history.
10. these remarks are not antisemitic
olim hadashim ,   tel aviv/israel   (08.29.10)
All real jews , except converts and offspring of intermarried jews; who are not jews , have similar gene poole. This statement is right and not antisemitic.
11. Isn't that what Israeli scientists are trying to prove???
Jason ,   Tel Aviv   (08.29.10)

12. Sarrazin
Michael P ,   Australia   (08.29.10)
This guy didnt say anything antisemitic at all. Actually he is pro-Jewish. He has repeatedly make statements attributing the decline in German intellectual standards to the expulsion of the Jews. Jews do share common genes, for example there are genes which prove we have our origins in the middle east. He is definately anti-Muslim but is not anti-Semitic at all.
13. #9 you are wrong
me   (08.29.10)
Converts are just as jewish as those who are born to a jewish mother. Learn Halakha before you spread your nonsense.
14. If you REALLY want ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.29.10)
... to distance yourselves from his remarks, fire him. It's really all that simple. He'll get the message, and your reputation will be enhanced, not diminished.
15. To: No. 2
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.29.10)
Do you know anything about genetics? It is one thing to share a common gene. It is quite another to allege that it is the gene that is responsible for how people think, feel or act. Are you always this stupid, or did you put it on special just for us? Go take a break in a coffee bar in Amsterdam. Which is where I rather suspect you spend most of your time, anyway.
16. To: Tony at No. 9
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.29.10)
Agreed. Jews are inordinately proud of the fact that our heritage is genetically clear and undeniable. But he wasn't commenting on shared Jewish DNA. Read between the lines, his comments were slimy and derogatory and very mindful of Germany's Nazi past. He is an embarrassment to the German banking community, and should be removed from his directorship.
17. Storm in a teacup
Misha ,   Tel Aviv   (08.29.10)
If YNET has reported this story accurately then nothing said by Sarrazin about the Jews is worthy of such condemnation. He is right, Jews do share common genes, what is so racist about that? Anyone who has checked DNA procedures knows this to be true. The controversy just shows how sensitive Germans still are about their past.
18. to #9 read it again, he said jews got practical genes
ghostq   (08.29.10)
aka they got human traid that makes them cunning. but than again you probably used to hear those things.
19. to# idalia
Marcelo ,   Berlin / DE   (08.29.10)
what kind of genes does a jew have if he/she has conveted to judaism?? does the conversion to judaism change the genes of a person in any form??...do you think before you write/speak or it is just pure ignorance that drives your life????
20. Put it in its historical context
Yoel   (08.29.10)
It is legitimate to conduct scientific genetic research into DNA markup of people with different ethnic background. These genes do not influence behavior. For example I do not believe that there is a gene in the German people that is responsible for bigotry or genocide. These are learned behaviors. Comments coming from the descendent of the German Nazis about Jewish genes should be taken into its historical context and not dismissed simply as a benign comment.
21. #16 Sarah B.
Igor ,   Germany   (08.29.10)
In obvious contrast to you, I have read every interview Sarrazin gave and guarantee that he's not a racist, much less an anti-Semite. In the discussed interview he talked about _cultural_ identity of peoples. Then the journalists asked him: "Is there also a genetic identity?" to which he answered "All Jews share a specific gene, Basques have specific genes that differentiate them from others." but later continued: "In my book I don't talk about Turks or Arabs, but about Muslim migrants. Everywhere in Europe they integrate significantly worse than other migrant groups. The causes are not ethnic but obviously caused by the Islamic culture. This is especially obvious when one compares integration success of Pakistanis and Indians in Great Britain."
22. Jews have a "KINDNESS" gene, most arabs don't.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (08.29.10)
23. That is old news, Jews do share common DNA
ben yaacov ,   herzliya il   (08.29.10)
That isn't a racist remark by itself and is simply a recitation of common knowlege. Absent attributing some negative social behavior or moral deficiencies etc. to genes his remarks are not offensive and Jews have bigger and real problems of antisemitism to deal with.
24. Thilo Sarrazin, israel is with you!
Youval   (08.29.10)
The fact that there is a jewish gene is well-known for many years and mentioning it is not racism. The liberal media and political forces are obviously trying to exploit what you said inorder to intice a backlash against you for speaking the truth about the islamic barbarism currently plaguing the west. The people of israel are with you!
25. He is right
Tomek ,   Poland   (08.29.10)
Jews share many genes. Jews and Germans share many genes. Germans and bananas share many genes. Bananas and sparrows share many genes. Sparrows and sharks share many genes. Sharks and ladybirds share many genes. Genetically, all life is very similar. People call this guy's remark anti-semitic because they assume he meant some bad, ugly gene (if there is such a thing). But maybe people are just projecting their own prejudice onto this banker guy.
26. Disgusting
Atheist Turk ,   Germany   (08.29.10)
In a lot of points he is right. Some Muslim immigrants have everywhere in Europe big problems in fitting-in into the societies they live in. But Sarrazin does not differentiate between those who integrated succesfully and those who did not. He is playing with the fear of the majority. Me, as someone who lives in Germany wishes from Mr. Sarrazin more diferentiation instead of demonizing all people with a Muslim background. Otherwise he is a racist. A far right-wing, racist and anti-semtic NPD (should remind you of NSDAP) party spokesperson said about Mr. Sarrazin´s remarks: "Mr. Sarrazin´s position is our position, too."
27. Re #15 Sarah B
Andrew Brehm   (08.29.10)
You seem to have no problem condemning a man for what you want him to have said. Why? Because he is German? I happen to read German and I know in which context he made the statement. He said nothing about the gene being responsible for how people think. He merely mentioned that different nations are genetically different and that Jews and Basques can be identified genetically. It is old news indeed. Jews do share common genes, common among Jews and some common among all Semitic peoples. Why the heck is it racism to say so?
28. Re #20
Andrew Brehm   (08.29.10)
And now Sarrazin is a descendant of a Nazi? Wow. I must admit I don't know much about his family (and nor do I know why their guilt would have anything to do with him). But Mr Sarrazin is a Social Democrat, a member of the same party that alone opposed the Nazis. I don't understand why suddenly Jews do not have a common ancestry any more just because a German said that they do. And I don't understand why a German would automatically have Nazi ancestors (when in reality we have no idea who his parents were and what they did) or why his parents' crimes (if we believe your theory that they were Nazis) have anything to do with him. Sarrazin's statements show bigotry, they do indeed. But they show anti-German bigotry among Jews, who just because a German mentions a Jewish gene suddenly deny that Jews have a common ancestry and accuse that German's family of being Nazis and him of being solely the product of his family and therefor guilty as they were. It's pitiful. For the first time ever I am ashamed of being Jewish.
29. Sarrazin’s past statements complimented Jews
Elmer ,   USA   (08.29.10)
I just did a very brief Google check on his past statements. Find and read the articles “Bundesbank official under police investigation after blasting Turks for 'conquering Germany'” and “Germany: Death to Free Speech - Civil Courage vs. Uncomfortable Facts”. Sarrazin’s statements are the direct opposite of anti-Semitism. If you think that it is wrong (politically incorrect) to say that Arab and Turkish Muslim immigration to Germany is causing serious problems for Germany (and other European countries), then fine, criticize him. If you think it was wrong of him to lament Berlin’s and Germany’s loss of Jews, then fine, criticize him. If you think that genetics play no role whatsoever in human traits then read “Jewish Genius Charles Murray” at commentarymagazine.com. Murray was highly praised in the Jewish community for this article, but you can slam him for it. Again, my search was very brief and I honestly could have missed something. If I did miss any negative remarks Sarrazin has made about Jews, please post them to counterbalance this post. This whole issue seems to be about European political correctness.
30. Smear Campaign
david ,   Haifa, IL   (08.29.10)
This is a leftist smear campaign. There are no remarks on Jews by Sarrazin. I'm shocked that this kind of cheap FUD is getting through. If Yedioth is tuning into this smear campaign against Sarrazin its time to discard this news paper and read Israel Hayom instead. I guess that Eladad Beck will set things straight? If not, your journalistic reputation is gone NOW
