1. establish state in a year ?
Pinny ,   Bat Yam   (08.30.10)
Will they have their own infrastructure for gas, electric, telephone, sewage? Will they have an economy which will provide them with jobs so that they do not need to come to Israel looking for jobs? Will they be able to pay Israel back for all the electric and water they have consumed from us over the years and not paid us for yet? Will they have their own roads? Will they finally have elections to replace Abbas whose term legally expired months ago? I think the only state they are capable of is a state of confusion!
2. Dr. Salam Fayyad, you are our hero
Muayyad ,   Palestine   (08.30.10)
3. So he still calls for war
Andrew Brehm   (08.30.10)
Why does it have to be "resistance" and not "peace"?
4. There could have been a state
Andrew Brehm   (08.30.10)
Without their stupid "resistance", the "Palestinians" could have had a state in 1948. And 1967. And 2000. When exactly will they give up "resistance" and found their state?
5. A "Jewish "Recognised State ...FIRST !
Roland Seener ,   London England   (08.30.10)
6. GOOD, it's about time
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (08.30.10)
Then they can stop blaming Israel for all of their problems. What they need to do IS concentrate on their infrastructure. Instead of an army, work on the basics, roads, electricity, water and sewage, all the things the government is suppose to do. There is so much to be done, it will become a great job creator. This doesn't even consider rebuilding older homes, and, building new ones. If you concentrate on those things, outside investors will come in on their own. What they are waiting for is just one thing, stability. Gaza could be a great beach resort area, with its long coastline. But not if suicide bombers are going to blow up the tourists. Peace is the way to economic independence. But sadly, Hamas want to destroy Israel, not live in peace.
7. assad and first year of new state
ed ,   reno,america   (08.30.10)
what is he waiting for all these things he says he's going to do he should have already been doing. thats what all this humanitarian aid has been for. i and many, many other people are tired of his lies and his corrupt government. they have done nothing for their people except blame Israel fo rall his corrupt actions. some one ought to tell this man that not everybody is blind and stupid like he thinks. he thinks he has the backing of the arab and muslim world and to their great shame many other countries, but he knows that when offends Israel he spits in the eye of God, and i don't mean allah because allah is not god.
8. biggest hoax in modern history!
OZ   (08.30.10)
this "palestininan state' b.s is not even funny anymore... any israeli govt. that goes along with this commiting a national suiced. a'int gonna happen!
9. Gaza would seem to be the fly in the ointment ..
michael redbourn ,   Arad - Israel   (08.30.10)
10. "Decrease our dependency on foreign aid?"
John ,   Europe   (08.30.10)
Have you ever even throw a slight view on the map? Israel is intersected with Palestine and Palestine is intersected with Israel. Only a total retarded idiot, or a haredi fully sponsored by the state (up to a point he does not have to work and can be locked inside his private universe) cannot see that the future of Palestine is tied together with Israel's. You live in same delusions as are people who deny Israel's existence - or people who cannot accept Palestine's existence.
11. Toward Liberty!!?? What a JOKE
Dan ,   Titusville, FL   (08.30.10)
The Palestinians have no idea of nor any commitment to liberty. If they did a Palestinian state would have been born 63 years ago.
12. He is doing the right thing
Israeli   (08.30.10)
state building takes a long time and people have to see results. Good lluck to him- the results will impact us.
13. But will he recognise Israel as Jewish?
The 11th Man ,   London.   (08.30.10)
14. They Will Have to Find Oil or Grow Cocaine
Dav Lev ,   Burbank. CAUSA   (08.30.10)
The caveat is to stop all construction in Jerusalem. Does he mean East or West or both? Okay, so Israel gives away East Arab neighborhoods, and the Old City. Does it retain the Wailing Wall, what else? Will this end the warfare and conflict forever...or just bid time for then next round? Will they make treaties with Iran, Iraq ( US withdrawal), Afghanistans Taliban, Al Qaeda, Islamic JIhad, Hamas, Hebollah? What next for the W. Bks future? And what about Iran, just 1,000 miles away, ( now having drones, artillery, cruise missiles, speed boats, nukes?). Will the PA have an army (tanks, warplanes, artillery, etc.)? What about Jordan's status? These are just empty words my friends..Will they extend the boycott to any Jewish made manufactured product? 2.7m Muslims on the WBk with no ports or natural resouces, or utilities (where will they get the electricity, competing with the more militant Hamas, which has the ports. Oy vey. Is he delusional or on something? Yes, they could grow cocaine or heroin..but can they really?
15. not in a thousand years my friends
carlos ,   San Diego U.S.A.   (08.30.10)
After 1,600 years of tyrany, corruption, xenophobia, hatemongering, antisemitism and killing infidels they are telling all gullible fools that in one year they will become normal. If you believe them you are complete fools!
16. A Palestinian state: Yitzhaq Rabin's vision
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (08.30.10)
The following is part of a speech given by the late Mr. Yitzhaq Rabin - the Prince of Peace, dubbed by many around the world - given before the Knesset, Israel's parliament, in October 1995, talking about the shape of a peace agreement as he envisioned it, and that was before the way Israel was attacked from the West Bank, 2000 and after the intensifications of attacks on Israel from Gaza, having left to territory in 2005... 1) Jerusalem will remain united under Israel's sovereignty and will also include suburbs such as Giv'at Zeev and Ma'aleh Adumim. 2) The major Jewish settlement blocs will be part of the sovereign state of Israel. 3) The Jordan Valley must be viewed in the widest possible way of its definition and it too will remain under Israel rule. 4) The future Palestinian state will be demilitarized and its border passes and skies will remain under Israel's control. This contour is more strict than Mr. Netanjahu is likely to propose, and Rabin was a leader of the left of center Labor party. Furthermore, the overwhelming majority of Israel citizens, right, left and center, would agree with Rabin's AND Netanjahu's views of the shape of a future Muslim-Arab state in the regions of Samaria and Judeah. So, when we think of the details of an accommodation of peaceful coexistence between Arab and Jew, between the Muslim-Arab world and the nation-state of the Jewish people, Israel, let us do so with open eyes, ears, mind and heart, shall we...??
17. Pali State
jim beam   (08.30.10)
This old gezer is certainly prone to a lot of wet dreams" The Pals. only know how to destroy - build is not in their lexicon-
18. First You Must Recognize
Brazen   (08.30.10)
The exisistence of the hebrew nation FIRST, then you pack your belongings and move to jordan where your land is.
19. It is this guy who has the money
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (08.30.10)
I read somewhere that the bank accounts that Arafat had squirreled away at least billion dollars are now in the hands of Prime Minister Salam Fayyad. In the old days Arafat basically ran his government from a financial aspect, by just handing out suitcases of money, on a as needed basis. It was part of the reason for such rampant corruption in the PA. So the transparency idea is a good one. He can start by showing us all the books now. Lets see his bank accounts and how he has been spending the money. As we all know, the Gulf States have dramatically reduced their payments. Recently there was an article about in YNET. How this reduction...in free money given to the Palestinians...was affecting the government of the PA. That there would be shortfalls, and salaries would NOT be paid in a month or two because there is no money to pay them. Even private investment has dropped dramatically, because of Palestinian government corruption. Hamas is no better, they were mad when Israel lifted some restrictions on Gaza. Because Hamas, like Mafia here, gets a cut of all tunnel smuggling. Now the smugglers are being forced to sell their Egyptian goods i.e. refrigerators, washers, dryers etc., at a loss. Because the new Israeli goods are cheaper, and better quality. So the Palestinian people prefer the Israeli goods. This has hurt Hamas in the pocketbook, and they are mad about it. They would rather stiff their own people, than have the blockade lifted.
20. some state, more like a Mickey Mouse Club house
Mickey ,   Disney Land, USA   (08.30.10)
come inside and have some fun. It's the biggest farce in the history of states. Peace with Israel? huh try making peace with Hamas, your own family first. If you can't succeed in that, what makes you think you can make peace with Israel? Since when is peace done as a forced deal on paper. Toilet paper is worth more then that document. It doesn't mean anything. They can't even organize themselves to move out of refugee camps and they think they can run a state?
21. hallusinations
Seppo ,   Finland   (08.30.10)
Does Mr. Fayyad realize that there can be no Palestinian state inside Israel before all the problems which nobody has been able to solve during 62 years. How he can solve these problems including the drastic change in PLO and Hamas Charters in one year. How he thinks that he can stop incitement in WB and Gaza in one year. How he thinks that he can change all the school books teaching faulty history and lies in one year. For me it seems impossible to somebody who has no mandate even to negotiate.
22. Co-existence in the shopping aisles, Matty where are you?
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (08.30.10)
There is a great model of mutual coexistence north and south of Jerusalem in the west bank branches of the Rami Levi supermarket chain. Arabs and Jews work and shop side by side. The parking lot is full of Israeli and Palestinian license plates. Palestinians are totally ignoring the calls to boycott Rami Levi and the hollow threats of retribution. Groves - my invite still stands for the pizza and beer here in the high hills of Judea. It looks like you're a one-man boycott. A few days ago I stood behind a Palestinian woman who checked the prices and offerings with the obviously Jewish counterman (skullcap on his head and fringes at his belt). They chatted away in Arabic. The bottom line is really the practical and pragmatic stuff: can Fayyad put together enough credibility and power to ensure that militias and strongmen cooperate with his police force and courts? Will Palestinian businessmen toe the line and obey the law when doing business? And, of course, will Palestinians pay their taxes to support their society like the rest of the civilized world does? So far, all this talk is cheap...
23. not east jerasulem
pini ,   usa   (08.30.10)
if bibi gives it to them there will be civil war in israel
24. Does Israel claim to be a Jewish State or democratic?
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (08.30.10)
If Abbas recognized Israel as a Jewish state what does that mean? A state for Jewish people only and deporting non-Jews or not allowing refugees to return? Israel is currently a Jewish controlled democratic state so any thing Abbas says would only apply his new state or to possible UN resolutions but would that be binding to refugees living in other countries?
25. What was achieved in the first year?
rebecca ,   Modiin   (08.30.10)
Did I miss something?
26. "state in a year." Yes, but the year is 2987.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (08.30.10)
27. Takes WAY longer than a year, Fayyad
William ,   Israel   (08.30.10)
Building an infrsatructure and setting up a resistant, racist population for Statehood takes more like 10-2o years depending on how aggressively you approach it. Considering you probably won't last that long, either because of elections or any number of Arab terrorists trying to stop you, the end goal doesn't seem as attainable. But, please - go down this road because it may be the catalyst needed for Arab racist hate to subside and coexist in the neighborhood instead of committing genocide. Any correct action is a good action.
28. #2 - so go to the streets and defend him!
William ,   Israel   (08.30.10)
Voice your opinion against Hamas, PLO, PFLP, PRC, Hizbullah, Syria, etc. and support Fayyad!! Get out in the street and demand other "Palestinians" support Fayyad and demand them end incitement and calls against coexistence so Fayyad's (and your) dream can be realized. Unless you do that - your opinion means nothing.
29. GOOD LUCK DEAR , DR. SALAM FAYYAD
Salma ,   Palestine   (08.30.10)
Salam Fayyad is doing the best he can, ALL MY RESPECT.
30. Can nobody see the danger ?
Victor ,   Klaks.Faroe Islands   (08.31.10)
Can nobody see the danger of the so called "peace talks" ? Israel is standing alone against the rest of the world; but thanks to G-d, Israel has friends all over the world, and we are praying for the Jewish people, that G-d shall bee with Israel in the future, as He has in the past. The enemies of Israel are now in the final stage of the mobilization, but the Almighty is in charge, and in Joel 3:1-2 He says: "At that time, when I restore the prosperity of Judah and Jerusalem, I will gather the armies of the world into the valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will judge them for harming my people, for scattering my inheritance among the nations, and for dividing up my land." Especially recognize this: "And for dividing up my land." G-d bless Israel.
