1. Ariel is not a settlement! Its an established city!
Jay3 ,   ISrael   (08.30.10)
And whos land are we occupying? Jordan annexed the land and there has never been a Palestinian state! What a pack of disgusting leftist traitors. All these actors and authors should be themselves boycotted!
2. boycott
Idalia ,   the netherlands   (08.30.10)
Hmm, although i'm also against the occupation, i don't think that boycotting Ariel is a good idea. Artists have a beautiful tool to convey their message of peace and co-existence: culture. That also includes theatre. I guess it's easy to boycott, but it's harder to reach out a hand, give a show and talk to people about peace. Don't do to others what you don't want others to do to you. Simple, right?
3. Wishful thinking
Jason ,   NYC, US   (08.30.10)
It is wishful thinking to believe that those Jews in Judea and Samaria who would refuse evacuation could remain there under Palestinian administration of the land. Unfortunately, Abbas already told the Arab League that he plans to have all of their lands be Jew-free. This is not a rational peace partner, but it is one who hates Jews. The Fatah flag still features all of Israel with two AK-47's and a grenade. Nothing has changed, they want it all from Judea+Samaria to Tel Aviv. Nothing is off limits through their eyes. Boycotting Ariel is disgusting. Get a life.
4. how disgusting
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (08.30.10)
to think that the government encouraged people to move to Ariel and then it turns their back on them, labeling them as dirty 'settlers' These "peace" people are compassionate to the cruel and cruel to the compassionate and a disgrace to the good citizens of Israel.
5. I agree in theory with some of what the authors are saying.
Bartley Kulp ,   Haifa, Israel   (08.30.10)
Mostly I support peoples right as is proper in a healthy democracy to follow their conscience. However the government does not have to subsidize these people. So what's the problem?
6. Our "Intellectuals"
Steve ,   Ra'anana   (08.30.10)
Our "Intellectuals"--their depth of knowledge is so limited that they do not realize that there is no spot in Israel--no matter how it is defined--that is free from the claim by the Arabs that it belongs to them. This week, as we enter crucial negotiations, they select a city that our government will try to retain as a part of Israel after any negotiations and wave the flag of surrender to say "Give it up." Retention of Ariel is the consensus of those who fund their theaters and read their books. Have no fear, their message is very clear to the Palestinian negotiators and the most unfriendly American government we have ever faced. Their lack of historical and intellectual depth is staggering.
7. Exactly!
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (08.30.10)
If the settlers worship The Land(TM) so much, let's not make them miserable and waste enormous resources plus imperil the cohesion of the State of Israel by forcibly evacuating them. Have them stay in a new Palestinian state as its citizens. Demographically they would not pose a threat to such a state and - so long as they stopped behaving like cowboys attacking Palestinian people and property - they would not have too many problems, particularly in the long-run. And they'd get to fulfill their land fetish.
8. Delusional
Meir ,   Toronto, Canada   (08.30.10)
The PA has never given any indication that they are prepared to accept even one Jew in 'Palestine'. Quite the opposite, they are quite clear that 'none is too many'. Stop dreaming and projecting your view of the future to the Palestinians who clearly don't share it.
9. I support the sentiment:
leo ,   usa   (08.30.10)
"If settlers refuse to evacuate, they can stay and become Palestinian citizens". I just do not understand why there should be boycott. Are these artist proponents of Palestinian Judenrein or are they just totally misguided?
10. authors support boycott of ariel
moron ,   galut   (08.30.10)
simply encourage more arab intransigence
11. let's go on with revoking funds for those extreme leftists!
Tevye ,   Chelm   (08.30.10)
Now the government mustnt step back! I dont care if its ab yoshia, grossman or whatever... No more funding or prize nominations for those guys! And no, this is not ment satirical, I mean it!
12. What would the IDF say?
(08.30.10)
Perhaps they wouldnt agree that Settlers be part of a Pal state as an OVERWELMING majority of combat Unit soldiers and officers live in the yishuvim. Who would protect your rights to have free speech? Your kids who are waiting on line for an American Green Card? You people are insane. Seems like these stuggling artists are using this as self promotion.
13. :: Excellent news
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (08.30.10)
First we had the conscientious objectors in the IDF/IAF who refused to serve in the occupied territories, now we have Israeli actors & playwrights who refuse to perform in these illegal settlements and who are now supported by Israeli writers. If this keeps up we might see municipal workers and transport workers refusing to service these illegal settlements but what we really need is a grassroots campaign of Israeli people boycotting goods and services from these illegal settlements. An Israeli cultural boycott is one thing but only an economic boycott will have a true impact. Again I wish to express my admiration and thanks to these brave Israeli who are willing to stand up and acknowledge the illegal nature of these settlements.
14. Habimah
Eddie ,   london UK   (08.30.10)
The Palestinains will not stop till Habima in Tel Aviv becomes a mosques, and the Jews (even the secular left) are dhimmis to Islam.
15. NARROW MINDED EGOTISTS
stude ham   (08.30.10)
THEIR WORKS ARE NOW ON MY BOYCOTT LIST!
16. Writers ? Intellectuals ?
Michel ,   Jerusalem   (08.30.10)
Just a few more Leftists..
17. Disguisting guys..
Gerard ,   Jerusalem   (08.30.10)
Looking just to be published out of Israel and be invited by anti-Israeli Universities
18. Very sad to hear
Larry ,   Raanana   (08.30.10)
They do not even understand that it is the Arabs who are the occupiers.
19. Believe me!
Merca ,   Barcelona.Spain   (08.31.10)
Some left people in Israel are more radicals than the same kind in EU.In Spain we are used to see actors in anti-israeli demons.I can't understand how is possible to say world cinema is dominated by jews.If true, for sure is not the case in Spain.
20. Now Yehoshua, Oz, & Grossman books will be boycotted &burned
Jean ,   Paris   (08.31.10)
21. we conquered out own land.
Golan ,   Modiin   (08.31.10)
the so called settlements are nothing more than Israeli towns. Jews have a right to live anywhere in the land of Israel liberated by the Israeli government. That includes Netivot, Sderot, Yaffo, Acco, Haifa, Tzfat, and yes Ariel too.
22. SPETACULAR NEWS!!
Marco Antonio ,   Rio de Janeiro   (08.31.10)
I have no words to express my satisfaction with this recent initiative started by artists and now support by the creme de la creme of Israel´s intelligentsia. These authors are worldwide recognized and I expected no less from them. Kol ha kavod. Israel is a great nation. One to be commended for surviving in a hostile environment. Not only survived, but managed to put Israel among the 30 best countries in the world in starndart of living. This is not little. Not only did that, but also gave the world hundreds of contributions in science and arts. But Ariel is not Israel, although there are Israelis there. This 400.000 people beyond the Green Line are the root of all evil upon Israel. They harm the image of 7 million decent, honest, brave Israelis. Boycotts like this cause a panic in most of Israels-haters. It´s funny to read in the talkbacks around the world the reactions of people that usually criticise Israel. They simply can´t understand that a great part of Israeli society are moral, correct people that want to live in peace with their Palestinian neighbours. These authors are the real zionists. The ones that see reality through the lens of Judaism which defends tolerance, respect and love. If we go back in time and read the reactions of Israelis concerning the withdraw from Yamit, in Sinai, we will see that they are the same as expressed in the talkbacks in this page. In the end, all settlement activity will be over. It would be better to the settlers to return without humilliation, but it seems they have chose confrontation. As we say here in Brazil, they will enter back to the Green Line with the tail among their legs.
23. Self loathing Jews await to be invited by Anti-Semite abroad
and be awarded ,   worthless prizes,   (08.31.10)
... unfortunately!!!!
24. "prominent authors" Nothing but radical leftist authors
(08.31.10)
25. Patheticly small crowd must hurt
DAVID ,   Jerusalem Israel   (08.31.10)
Channel two showed the crowd of supporters maybey twenty people. It was really kind of sad to see them standing there with a tiny handful of people talking to themselves. Maybey next time they they should hold their demo in Berlin or London might get a better turnout they have lots of fans there.
26. Arab Minority in our land
Joan ,   New Zealand   (08.31.10)
Has not the foolish man yet realised that the Palestinians would not allow any Jewish people to live in Judea and Samaria if they took it over. Of course they want to jamb as many Arabs into Israel as they are allowed as well as those already ensconced. If they want seperate States, Israel should make sure all their pals go with them - No more Tibis
27. great idea Settlers become part of Palestine
Avi ,   Israel   (08.31.10)
Great idea, the settlers who hate seculars anyway can stay where they are and live under Palesinian occupation. Give them a taste of their own medicine. Dont forget to send a postcard from Palestine.
28. Another blow for the right wing
Leah ,   Ramat Ha Sharon   (08.31.10)
All thay can do is call people traitors that dont agree with their fanatical right wing religious views. Seems the voice of reason is getting louder not only interantionally but also within Israel. The days of the settlers and the occupation are coming to an end. As in Gaza they did not have public support which is their weak point they incite hatred to seculars thus loosing public support. We will be sitting in Coffee shops In tel aviv as they will be handed a Palestian passport, Are we bothered? Not really.
29. Integration of Jewish community in a palestinian state!
Jude Salomon ,   Port-au-Prince HAITI   (08.31.10)
Jewish and Muslim faith look to me "dominant" in their expression, with clashes in perspective... So, a Palestinian state nearby a powerful Israeli nation, the relationship will be like Russia-Georgia, and multiple military interventions to protect real or "so-called" Israeli interests?
30. Boycott their books too
withlove ,   Israel   (08.31.10)
I'm not buying their books either, so you can call it a boycott as well. Hopefully none of the taxes I pay go to them either. Besides that, I don't care what they do.
