1. trial
Dan ,   Israel   (08.31.10)
They should be tried and punished as adults. Let this be a lesson to other "kids."
2. Tragic
K ,   Israel   (08.31.10)
What has happened to good old fashioned Jewish values? Absolutely tragic, both for the victim's family and Israeli society in general. This should be a wake up call to everyone, this shouldn't be allowed to have happened in vain.
3. Hang the bastards
Patrick Leroux ,   Bristol , UK   (08.31.10)
and their parents too for giving them such a bad education. The law says "parents are responsible for deeds and acts commited by their under aged children until their majority" Having children is not a joke , parents should care about their education and up bringing.
4. Kids Killer
ester ,   melbourne   (08.31.10)
To drink Vodka they have needs as adults.... try them as adults.... And you mother.... where were you??? when your son was playing murder
5. were they boys religious or secular??
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (08.31.10)
We have a right to know!
6. murder
Jennie ,   Israel   (08.31.10)
A line must be drawn, enough pussyfooting around and allowing people to get away with murder. The guilty parties in this shameful and horrible story are first of all the parents of these kids. The parents of 13 and 15 year olds should know where they are at all times. The adult who bought them alcohol is also guilty. Let's not forget the stores and kiosks that sell both alcohol and tobacco, not to mention other goodies, to underage consumers, breaking the law. The people who stood by and watched this poor man being beaten to death, and those who did not call for help- all are guilty. The teenagers must be tried as adults, and they must accept full responsibility for their actions. Their parents should be forced to undergo some kind of serious counselling and to pay damages to the family of the victim. In the last decade or so, I am sorry to say that Israel has disintegrated and become as bad as anywhere else. The law must be clear and severe, unforgiving and act as a deterrent. There is no explanation or excuse based on socioeconomic difficulties or the lack of organized activities for teens, no whining sob story that can excuse or explain the actions of these young people. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time-period.
7. Time to institute the death sentence
Shalom ,   Ashdod, Israel   (08.31.10)
These animals have already served notice to society that they are animals and as such they should be treated like animals and executed no matter what their ages are (if they are old enough to kill then they are old enough to die) PS: give them a cigarette before they are executed!!
8. it does not say anywhere that the teens were Jewish
Ruth ,   Beer Sheva   (08.31.10)
and my experience is that this is often an indication that they were Arab. There are several Arab neighborhoods in Northern Jerusalem.
9. abuse of alchohol stinks
Golani ,   Mi Ami, Israel   (08.31.10)
I love Israel, but the laws or enforcement regarding alcohol in Israel are ridiculous. As it stands now, young children can walk into any convenience store and purchase alcohol. Abuse of alcohol is attributing to the downfall of society. Looking back 25 years ago in Israel, so many people drinking was a rarity in Israel. It was looked down upon and something that foreigners did. On the kibbutzim, it was the foreign volunteers that would drink every night. Israel was different and alcohol was not glorified. We must reclaim our youth and in addition to laws and enforcing the laws we must educate our youth and not glorify alcohol. It is a sad statement that when teenagers from the US come to Israel, and one of their highlights of their trip to Israel is that they can purchase alcohol and drink legally. Most of the US if not all have changed the laws years ago from 18 back to 21, and generally these laws are enforced. Those selling or providing alcohol to minors or even those responsible for their children should be held completely responsible for the outcome of alcohol abuse. These “children” should be tried and punished as adults.
10. Stop the misusing "Lynched" YNET
Stan ,   USA   (08.31.10)
Lynched refers to killing someone by hanging via mob action without any legal cause. LYNCHED DOESN'T MEAN ATTACKING OR PLAIN KILLING. Please stop using this word now.
11. :: #5 & #8
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (08.31.10)
It doesn’t matter if these teenagers where ‘secular or religious’ or ‘Arabs or Jews’ as these distinctions have absolutely no bearing on the actual murder as it appears to be neither racially or religiously motivated. The needless killing of this elderly man was a result of teen drinking which according to reports appears to be widespread in Israel, looking for causality on religious or ethnic grounds is pointless and frankly absurd in this case.
12. 2 teens ARABS, ARABS, misleading the readers YNET?
m   (08.31.10)
This is the answer to the commenter about Jewish values.
13. American Lynched
Ben ,   Greenville USA   (08.31.10)
Nice society, passersby cant be bothered to call for help? Everyone in Israel has at least one cellphone. No one took photographs of the murders? Given Israeli society indulgence of kids, these murders will probably get off lightly.
14. Answer to Larry, Los Angeles
Jane, Czech Republic   (08.31.10)
They were jews - and is not important, if religious or if secular. Because, if they were non-jews, there would be their names, names of their relatives and their adresses. As usual...
15. Dear Ruth,
Jane, Czech Republi   (08.31.10)
of course the article says, who are that two boys. Because, if they were non-jewish, there would be their adresses, their full names and full names of their relatives. But, there is nothing and it stands for they are jews.
16. Adult asked to purchase alcohol for them
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (08.31.10)
Why is that one not pursued and arrested? It was his own criminal negligence that set this all in motion.
17. Nationality of the attackers hidden by Ynet
Lila ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.31.10)
Once again, when it's Arabs who kill a Jew, Ynet hides their identities. If a Jew is even suspected of a crime, especially if it's a religious Jew, it's the headline. When will you stop your racism against Jews?
18. Arab boys...why hide it
R ,   Jerusalem   (08.31.10)
see jpost.com for more of the story
19. Evil little bastards!!!!
Talula ,   Israel   (08.31.10)
Lock them up and NEVER allow them to walk free and kill again – statistics have proved this to be true. Stupid ignorant comments from stupid ignorant families. They should be monitored by social services - these families have proved they are incapable of raising decent human beings. Who blames the police for 'turning them into killers' when it was caught on film?!?!?!?! A man is dead because he didn't give them a cigarette? Stupid bastards – they should all go to hell. I HATE reading things like this, I hate it !!!!!
20. Ruth,
Northern Light ,   North of Israel   (08.31.10)
Jerusalem Post says the teens are Arabs. http://www.jpost.com/Israel/Article.aspx?id=186570 I don't know why Ynet didn't add that. There have been such crimes committed by Jews, too, but this time they were Arabs.
21. The gov't'has to develop anti-violence education
Israeli   (08.31.10)
Violence is everywhere. It is the ministry of education along with other ministries responsibility to work more on anti-violence education in schools, after school activities, advertising, etc.
22. The boys were arabs.
Turteltaub ,   berlin, germany   (08.31.10)
Other israeli newspapers identified the assumed murderers as arab kids from north-east jerusalem...
23. They were Arabs.
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (08.31.10)
They were Arabs. Strange that ynet doesn't disclose this fact., but other sources do.
24. someone, explain to me, please . . .
Shalom Hartman   (08.31.10)
the boys were caught on camera and witnessed yet: "The detectives have turned him into a killer," said a brother of one of the teens, while a friend of the family said there was no way he was involved. "The parents are staying up at night, crying. He's a good, sensitive," she said. Is this a sick joke or what?
25. Sure reminded me of Chicago days
Cameron ,   USA   (08.31.10)
Kids today pull behavior that never crossed my mind when I was rolling around as a teenager. This is just the kind of crap I always kept my eyes open for when I would march home late night from the neighborhood bar, or step out late for a pack of smokes. A brawl with a couple of young jagoffs is one thing, and I could handle myself in that setting, but these damn kids now all too easily jump at you with a shank or automatic in a heartbeat. My neighbor was coming back one night from the BBQ joint a few blocks away, and had some young kid ask him for a light. As he was digging out his lighter, another guy came leaping out of the shadows, and pistol-whipped him upside the head. When these kids group together, anything can go down in these times of ours.
26. "The detectives have turned him into a killer"
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (08.31.10)
said one of the brothers. Did the brother mean that if the detectives hadn't caught him, he wouldn't be a killer or that it was the detectives; accusation itself which made him look like a killer and that he really isn't? I would offer a third possibility: The attitude of the brother and the family, in general, is what nurtured the boy's hostility, disrespect and lack of conscience in these matters. In this case, would the brother or any other family member also agree to do prison time on behalf of the alleged killer if the boy, in fact, is found guilty? Just asking.
27. Passer by
Madai ,   USA   (08.31.10)
Two points: 1) Of course the teens must be drunk (according to the news) to alleviates their sentence's period; whether they're really drunk or not. Being drunk just add a "flavor" to the story. 2) Anyone liked the phrase: "The 60-year old man lay bleeding while passersby did nothing, and rescue forces were alerted only after 50 minutes had gone by." ??
28. Facts
Emanuel ,   New York   (08.31.10)
Why does this article not identify that these teens are arabs. Is this not to offend them?! Well, its offensive that they kill a jew IN OUR COUNTRY. At the same time, Yediot does not hesitate to call someone a 'jewish terrorist'. Just give the facts next time you 'report' a story.
29. Ruth, Jane, Larry.... THEY WERE ARABS
Emanuel ,   New York   (08.31.10)
see arutz 7...
30. youthcriminality
thinkagain ,   jerusalem   (08.31.10)
Nowadays everybody has a mobilphone.I think the people who assisted and did not call the police have the same responsability than the criminals, and should be put on trial.
