While Arafat said in front of the Western press, the moderate statements they wanted to hear. It was well known and documented that peace was simply part of his "Phase Plan" to destroy Israel. The "Phase Plan" for those unfamiliar with it, was simple, Get as much land (from Israel) as possible through negotiation. After that path was exhausted, to use whatever land they were able to trick Israel out of, as a base to attack and destroy Israel, when they were strong enough to do so. Arafat when speaking to his base in Arabic, his reference, was the "Treaty of Hudaybiyah" in 628 C.E., which was street code, it was understood by the "Arab Street", that any peace agreement was just a ruse, and like Muhammed, they would violate the treaty and destroy Israel when the timing was right. Basically Arafat was telling his people, ignore all the treaties you read about in the paper, like Muhammad and his 10 year treaty with Mecca, it's OK to lie to your enemy, because G-d says it's OK. So don't worry whatever you hear or read, we will NOT abandon our true goal, which is to destroy Israel.

After 9/11 Rauf suggested that the US, because of its policies, bore responsibility for the attack. And good luck even today getting him to condemn Hamas or Hizbullah, or even get him to concede they are terrorists. Most recently, Rauf compared the current struggles facing American Muslims to past religious-based prejudices and attacks against other groups, including Jews and Roman Catholic immigrants. As if... Recent FBI reports show hate crimes against Jews in the US outnumber those against Muslims by roughly 9:1. Rauf has also remarked, "In a true peace it is impossible that a purely Jewish state of Palestine can endure. . . . In a true peace, Israel will, in our lifetimes, become one more Arab country, with a Jewish minority."

Congress should make a declaration and say NO to the building of a Mega Mosques-a commemoration of the attack on America at Ground Zero by Islamist-Jihadists on 9/11. Those who think that Islam is a 'religion of peace' and does not produce Islamist-Jihadists are living in fantasyland. They don't know anything about Islam. If they do, then the only explanation for them to be supportive of the idea of building a Mega Mosque near Ground Zero is that they are corrupted and have NO respect for American values and sensitivity.

does this peace mean 'muslim peace'? Like suicide attacks, stonings, terrorist attacks? Maybe we have to define PEACE here? Sensitivity is certainly NOT a priority in mr. Rauf's life.
