6. :: Yes, they can create a disaster, a tragedy
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (09.02.10)
and an unstable Middle East by enabling the establishment of the largest terrorism camp in a 23rd Arab State.
7. Geneva Accord? WTF
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (09.02.10)
Why are they bringing up this old, worthless scam? I know a Nigerian prince who has a secret Peace Plan and he will share it as long as you send him all your bank account information.
8. Gaza is proof of Arab intentions
Golan ,   Modiin   (09.02.10)
bla bla bla Arabs want peace. Who did they vote for in their last elections? Abbas is illegitimate Arab leader. The PLO simply rejected the election in which they lost.
9.  Lofty words, little hope
the ever-lofty ,   neverland   (09.02.10)
10. Destruction of the State of Israel
Yehudi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.02.10)
Israel wants a two-State solution as a means to peace with its neighbors. The Palestinians want a two-State solution as a first stage in the final destruction of Israel, Has v'shalom.
11. For Geneva Initiative you too,
Salma ,   Palestine   (09.02.10)
CAN Wet it and drink its water !
12. Geneva Initiative proof that the EU will part with its money
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (09.02.10)
The Geneva Initiative is a great money maker for its proponents. The EU has coughed up millions of Euros of taxpayer money to provide some nice jobs for a few Israelis and Palestinians. Unfortunately, while the Geneva model has wide acceptance in the hallways of the European parliament (where its funding comes from), it is definitely NOT on the agenda of either Palestinians or Israelis. I'm going to emphasize the Palestinians, who appear to want nothing to do with it. You can't push a plan on two different peoples who simply don't want it. There is zero debate in Palestinian society about Geneva - if there is, then it's been well hidden. Within Israel, for various reasons, the initiative is associated with Beilin. That means it is stained by the failure of both Oslo and Meretz, Beilin's political party where the term isn't reported at all in public forums where Meretz leaders are. I admire Beilin for much of his work, but the failure of Oslo and his party's self-implosion leave me scratching my head about Geneva.
13. Geneva Initiative
Ricardo Macher ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (09.02.10)
The people sitting there represented nobody, had no right to sign nothing, to give nothing, so it was easy to say: "OK, wonderful, so I'll give you Jerusalem (who cares about Jewish feelings?) I'll agree that we invaded and conquered so that I have to restore the same amount of land (fu@# security) and we will be friends forever on. If I was an arab sitting with you I would say: "Wonderful! This idiots are giving their positions for nothing! Tomorrow we can use this as a basis!!!" But life is not like you believe, just look around you and count (it will be easy) how many people agree with you!!!!
14. NO,THEY CAN'T !
Trumpeldor ,   eurabyeh   (09.02.10)
A conlict whose roots are religious is not solved without religious reforms !
15. " Voting rights worked in South Africa"???
trumpeldr ,   eurabyeh   (09.02.10)
Yes ,yes a smashing success White people are harassed and persecuted !
17. What about the Gaza model?
Danny   (09.02.10)
If Israel pulls out of the West Bank imagine how much more exciting trips to Ben Gurion will be dodging rockets or trips to the Tel Aviv beach? Life in Israel is too boring, this is the perfect solution. After all ending the occupation in Gaza and Lebanon worked a treat....
18. Note the sound of wind rushing through their ears.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (09.02.10)
19. Peace? No they cant
zionist forever   (09.02.10)
Red lines mean nothing its the meat of the agreement that matters and despite the smiles and promises neither Bibi nor Abbas is in a position to make any serious concessions. Bibi has his coalition to think about once we start talking settlements or Jerusalem if he makes any of the serious concessions the arabs will demand it will bring down his coalition and Bibis priority is keeping his job.. If we have an election talks are history anyway and even then we can't be sure who will make up the government after the election, who their coalition partners are or what they are able to do politically. Abbas doesn't even represent anybody but a small group of palestinians and unless you are accepted as representing the majority to matter what pieces of paper you sign the deal will be considered non binding by the people on the street especially Hamas. Abbas isn't even a legitimate president anymore because the election were supposed to be nearly 2 years ago. Abbas deicided unilaterally it would be ok o put the election off by another year now we are going on 2 years. If Abbas shouldn't even be president his enemies will say he had no right to make any deal. Even Obama is not interested in making real peace he is interested in creating an arab state for his legacy which makes him even more dangerous to Israel. All that matters to Obama here is his legacy which is why he is insistant on us having a deal sign, sealed and delivered before he goes into an election year. If he sees his legacy slipping away he may try and force a bad deal onto us. Once the photographs are taken and the speeches about how dedicated everybody is to reaching an agreement then its all going to break down especially if there is more terror.
20. Stupid leftist plan, no thinking about the future
Seppo ,   Finland   (09.02.10)
I looked at one point. After 30 years Temple Mount would be given to a full posession of pals. By that time there will be the third Temple built there and these leftist would give it free to pals. Many other details proove just stupidity.
21. To #16
Yehudi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.02.10)
I recon you got it right.
22. no ,they can't!
OZ   (09.02.10)
time for the dillusional left, the bleeding hearts artisits, the "pious"anarchsit to wise up-- there can not be "peace' with the arab palestinans in this framework, under current conditions and with world sentiments as they are. so no , they can't , and certainly not with barrakha hussein around!
23. i believe this i believe that
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (09.02.10)
that is the nub of the article that is what Yossi Beilin used to say This is a akin to a religious messianic belief which is at variance with recent history.which is why we have revisionist historians to rewrite inconvenient facts out of history and to invent facts to support their untruthful narratives The violence perpetrated by the Palestiinians in the intifadas since 1993 prove that the Palestinians are not interested in a peaceful two state existence The only viable option is a one state solution called Israel which would be beneficial for the Palestinians as it would provide security prosperity, civil and human rights guaranteed by the Israeli Supreme court .If we had a Palestinian state the Hamas would abuse the secular Palestinians or the secular Palestinians would abuse the religious Paestinians
24. Israel soundly rejects the despicable Geneva Initiative.
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.02.10)
Those who are still dumb and gullible enough to financially support the Geneva Initiative can continue to do so. As long as the funding is publicly disclosed as required by Israeli law. However, Israel soundly rejects the Geneva Initiative. The last thing Israel wants is another stupid, appeasing, disastrous leftist plan like all the other such plans.
25. To #1 - How do you know
Tom ,   Denver, USA   (09.02.10)
what the other side thinks unless you talk with them?
26. #16 Brian I would agree with you except
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (09.02.10)
Of this little "problem" with coexistence which is the habit the Arab have of murdering Jews who wish to coexist with them side by side, as we witnessed two days ago.
27. No they can't.
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.02.10)
28. :: Normally you would be right - #25
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (09.03.10)
The only problem is not the talking that has been done for 100 years between the two sides in this conflict, but the experience with Arabs saying/agreeing to one thing in front of Jews and the West, saying another to their Arab audience, and then committing the most atrocious acts contrary to everything they agreed to in the first place. You are obviously ignorant of Middle East old and recent history and living in the region with your mindset, one will not last for too long. It is hard enough for knowledgeable people to survive and they not always successful. There are plenty of examples. One of them is yesterday when thousands of Gaza Arabs celebrated in the town square the murder of 4 innocent Jews.
29. Two States..Definite Borders. No Right of Return
Dav Lev ,   Burbank CAUSA   (09.03.10)
Hillary said today at the first meeting that history must be set aside, to move fwd. I agree. If we only consider the 20th Century wars..where would that leave Germany, Japan, Romania, Hungary, Finland, etc? What is the alternative to this conference collapsing, and the harsh rhetoric worsening, more threatening? One mistake, one false move, one miscalculation....and tens of thousands of rockets will fly (and artillery shells). That is a given. How many Jewish/Arab deaths are needed to wake both sides up? And Iran will do everything it can to provoke its surrogates to tweak the noses of the Jews, cheaply. Are the Arab E. Jerusalem neighborhoods that important to Israel? Does Israel need to police 2.5m W. Bk Arabs? Cannot 1.5m Gaza Arabs have their ruthless ambitions stymied with effective policing (Egypt)? W/O Hamas, W.Bk, Hez is weakened and cannot defeat a strong Israeli response supported by the US.UN. Bibi and Livni, Kadima, Labor, Meretz..know what is needed., the 2 states solution, retention of major settlements, caution at the Jordan Valley, effective border control, a partial demilitarization (both sides). Talks with Syria to begin in earnest..and contined pressure on Iran until IT understands the implications of being a nuke power. Right of return means return to a Pales state/Jordan...not the Jewish Israel.
30. #16 is a fake posting - NOT FROM ME!
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (09.03.10)
Well, I guess the best compliment is when people start copying you. Talkback #16 is definitely NOT from me and I'll be contacting YNET to try and resolve how they can prevent people from abusing my nomme de plume. I do NOT support taking down the wall at this point. I personally don't like the wall, but for all intensive purposes it is working to both prevent suicide bombings and to remind the world that Palestinian terrorism is still a major problem. I do NOT believe a binational state will work at this point in time. Not even close. The only way a binational state would work would be in Israstine-Palreal became the 51st state and the U.S. army and American police forces would enforce the American constitution separating synagogue/mosque/church and state. That ain't gonna happen, so the best guess for now is the two-state solution - which won't work anyhow since the "democratically elected government of the Palestinians", aka Hamas, totally rejects the idea of peace with Israel. The forger of my name is correct that coexistence is the solution, but since Muslims from Afghanistan and Pakistan across the Middle East to Israel have proven that even Muslims can't coexist with Muslims, I don't believe the Palestinians will want to coexist with the Jews. The real solution? Probably a combined Fatah-Egypt-Jordanian military offensive against Gaza to destroy Hamas. Once that happens, Israel and the Pals can sign a peace treaty. Ynet - how do I prevent people from forging my name on talkbacks?
