In Gulf war 1, Saddam illegally invaded Kuwait, and, was on the verge of doing the same with Saudi Arabia. This would have given Saddam control of 20% of the known world oil supplies. The U.S. and the world would not allow the madman(Saddam), that kind of economic power. So, Israel really had noting to do with those decisions, other than the fact, they wanted Saddam dead and out of power. At the time, Saddam was sending $25,000/suicide bomber to the families of the murderers, as a reward for killing Jewish civilians. So, of course they wanted him out. But the main reason was oil, everybody with any common sense knew that. The U.S. is the largest consumer of oil in the world (appox. 20%-25%) of total consumption of all the oil used yearly. While people have...and still do...question the morality of our oil use, the fact remains, the U.S. invaded Iraq for our national interests, NOT Israel's. But again we see the blatant admission from Hezbollah...who says he speaks for the Palestinians too...that the real goal is to destroy Israel. Clearly stating Israel does NOT have a right to exist. So even a broken clock, being correct twice a day, Nasrallah correctly states his, Iran's and the Palestinian goal, the destruction of Israel. By these remarks Nasrallah does open the door for Israel...fighting for its very existence...to all means possible. Plus it negates the "dis-proportional force" argument by Israel's enemies. Another war...which now seems more likely, given the recent statements made...by Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran. Should a war break out, Israel can use any force, it see fit, since Israel will be fighting for her life. Collateral damage will be shifted to the lowest priority, and must be, Israel goal must be a swift overwhelming response to any attacks. No more pamphlets dropped to reduce civilian deaths (while Israel loses the element of surprise) when targeting military bases or weapon caches. Sadly, they have brought this on themselves...self inflicted...as usual.
